It was 10:49pm and she was crying. Ruby Black, the one all the girls loved to hate and the guys simply loved was crying, but not just about any little thing – everything.

Being bullied, having to move schools, the whole Francis situation and, of course, her older sister coming back which was a blessing all in itself. She held the pillow to her face and sobbed lightly until the door slowly opened revealing none other than Bridget Black. She was in PJ bottoms, a white tee, had her hair up in a pony tail and had reading glasses on. She was a spitting image of Ruby back in year 7.

“Hey little miss,” She smiled lightly and Ruby tried desperately to make it look like she wasn’t crying by rubbing her face into the pillow to get rid of any tear marks “Were you crying? I heard sobbing and-”

“You were probably imagining things,” She smiled lightly, though fake “Must have misheard something.”

This only made Ruby want to cry even more, which she did 2 seconds later.

“Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby,” Bridget shushed her as she rubbed her back and sat next to her on the bed “Tell me what’s wrong.”

And so she did. Ruby told Bridget everything about the Francis and Jana debacle and how she was so utterly confused and how her niceness came crashing down on her.

“Oh Rube-ster,” Bridget sighed and hugged her sister tightly “Tell him, and if he feels the same way tell her! She will find someone better. Sure she may hate you for a while but at least she won’t be going on false hopes.”

Ruby nodded “But what if Francis doesn’t like-“

“Nonsense!” Bridget exclaimed, which made Ruby laugh lightly at how much like their mother she sounded “I’m sure if you gave him the chance you would see he likes you, maybe he has all along.”

As Bridget left the room, one thing she said stuck in Ruby’s mind and kept replaying itself. Something that should have been so easy to see from the beginning and all it took was an outsider’s look into the situation.

Maybe he has all along…
