The bell sounded and she sighed, standing up and fixing her messenger bag, who's flaps were upturned, and the Iron Maiden tag was coming off.
Since we had our next class together, we both walked, though in silence, having her next to me was the greatest thing I could hope for, of course, there are others, but she wouldn't go that way.
"Ladies, why are you late?"
I stared at Mrs. Frybarger, she looked VERY similar to Stephenie Meyer, the author of Twilight, which I often saw Allyson reading. Though she had the homely, nice look, she was really strict about students being tardy. Though she was nice about everything else.
I saw Allyson's face go soft, she have a slight pout.
"I'm sorry, it's all my fault we're late, my locker was jammed, and I had to get Hayley to help me.
The College Prep teacher fell for it. she gave a soft smile and nodded over towards our seats.
... wow... that girl is pretty damned sneaky.
I know right?
... yeah. No wonder you're gay for her.
AM NOT!
riiiiggghhht
The class passed by so slow, i was literally falling asleep. Allyson, besides me however, was doodling on a piece of paper, I saw sketches of the Mona Lisa. And a section of the sheet music for Beethoven's Fur Elise. Even a part of the Bayou Tapestry. I blinked at the paper until she scribbled down a few words I couldn't comprehend.
Emit Fo Dne Eht Litnu Uoy Rof Deelb Ll'I
Do you understand it?
...no.
okay.
She kept doodling, and answering every question that was asked right. It was frankly, very scary. While I, stumbled over some of the questions, and he had to whisper the answer to me.
~~ ALLY'S P.O.V. ~~
I yawned as the last of the classes finished. Tears rimmed my eyes, and I wiped them off, wandering over to my locker, and being tackled by a group of people.
Sam.
Crystal.
Josh.
Zac.
... Hayley was standing behind all of them, giggling slightly.
"GOD! WHERE WERE YOU?!"
I pushed them all off and took in a deep breath, before stealing the bottle of coke from Crystal's hands and taking a really big gulp of the sweet beverage.
I then took in air. "I was hiding." I held out my hand with a slight smile "So where's the rest of my phone?"
Josh and Crystal handed me the lost pieces while i pulled out the body.
"God. Where'd you hide? it was so hard to find you!"
"not really." Hayley giggled. "I found her in the old music room,"
"doing what?" Sammie questioned, giving me the You were playing in public?! face.
I smiled and nodded "piano, they really shouldn't keep such a pretty thing in the abandoned room."
Hayley nodded "That's true, it was really nice."
Josh opened his locker, right under mine. " I like the fact that I traded lockers with you when you first came." He smiled, leaning his head against my leg.
I grimaced and looked at Sammie, who grinned and sat on Josh's head, lightly by what I could tell.
"SAMMMMM!" He groaned.
"yes?"
"get off me."
"no."
I laughed and got what I needed, then slammed my locker shut. All before I grabbed Sammie's hand and pulled her up from her little "stool", when i pulled her up, Zac pulled me back.
All it took was one swift movement, and I felt my lungs deny the air I was feeding it, I felt my sight go blurry, and the last things I heard were the cries - which sounded distant, but I'm sure they weren't - that my friends let out. Then... it was Nothing.
I woke up at the hospital, my head aching in pain, and a bitter-ass taste dotted on the part of my tongue which was designed to taste bitter and hot stuff. The back. Which only made is worse.
My eyes weren't open, but I could tell it was a hospital already, by the beeping that I heard next to me. and the nauseating smell of medicine. I opened my eyes to see pure white, the room caused me to go blind for a split second.
Light was pouring out of a window, and the lights above my head were on, illuminating the bleached walls around me, I sat up, perhaps a bit too quickly, because before I knew it, my head started hurting more than all hell.
"Careful Allyson, you hit your head pretty bad."
AGAINST WHAT?!
"against wha-"
I saw Sam look up from her fetal position in a chair besides me.
"some stupid iron chested jock that was behind Zac pushed you both to the floor, and knocked you out, Zac landed on you."
I wanted to turn my head to look around, check out my surrounding and to see if anyone besides my sister and Sam were there.
"Hayley and Josh went to get some food, Zac and Jeremy went home to sleep last night, they should be here in a few, and Ash and the guys are at work...just in case you're wondering."
you know. Sometimes, I wasn't sure about the whole twin thing, maybe it WAS real.
Hayley came in with a small laugh, whispering, almost as if she was scared that it might have woken me.
"She's up guys, there's no need to whisper." Sammie muttered, a small smile on her face.
I noticed that there were heavy dark circles under her eyes. making her look like an adorable panda bear.
Wait a minute. one night without sleep wouldn't do that to her, and I should know, considering she and I would always pull all-nighters during sleepovers when we lived back in Anaheim.
"Guys, how long have I been out?"
Hayley looked at Crystal who looked at Josh who looked at me.
"Two weeks." Sammie said in a muffled and tired voice.
I felt my jaw drop.
"Two Weeks!?!?!" I asked, the pain in my head suddenly disappearing, a worry of too much homework and notes to catch up to replacing it.
I saw crystal tears trickle down Sam's face.
Crystal laughed nervously and took my hand, and guided it along my head, I felt a raised line, stitched together.
"WHAT THE HELL?!" I screamed "THEY CUT INTO MY HEAD?!"
Crystal looked at me square in the eye "Don't worry Al, all they did is put a metal plate into your head."
"DON'T WORRY?! DON'T FLIPPIN WORRY?! I HAVE A PIECE OF METAL INSIDE OF ME AND YOU TELL ME NOT TO WORRY?!"
At this point, i was somewhat scared. What if any of me had been damaged? And had gone unnoticed when the doctors examined my unmoving body? What if I was slowly bleeding internally? WHAT IF I DIED IN A FEW SECONDS?!
But of course that didn't happen.
"Allyson Michelle Lauren Costello. What's done is done. What's important is that you're not 6 feet under right now."
I looked at Sam who had said it, her tears having been wiped away.
"She's right" Hayley muttered. "think of it as more protection. Now when you go skateboarding it won't be as easy for you to all and get yourself hurt"
Her joke actually made me laugh a little, not enough for them to notice I was smiling. No way was I going to laugh after I had just freaked about them cutting into my skin and inserting a metal piece. Because I was born that way. I hated showing my constant mood swings.
Wait a minute.
"Hayley, how do you know that I skateboard?"
She smiled at me "I learned a lot about you while you were knocked out."
Sammie giggled "Only because she wouldn't go home and we needed to occupy the time by talking about something."
Hayley was beginning to entertain and interest me.
"wait. what about my homework? my AP classes?" I asked, turning to Crystal then regretting it, a sharp pain shot down my spine.
"Careful." Sammie sighed, taking an ice pack out of the small fridge besides her and placing the bag onto the tender skin of my neck.
I muttered a quiet thanks and watched as Crystal explained that Hayley had it all covered.
They had said I had the chicken pox, and was too ill to come to school, so Hayley "took the homework back to me" when she herself did my share, and handed it in the next day.
I couldn't even find a word that described Hayley's kindness. And more, she did it for someone she just met... two weeks ago?
"When can I get out?"
"Whenever you're ready." Sammie smiled, her thumb stroking the back of my right hand, the action was hidden under the sheets.
The sooner. The better, I hated the sickening smell of the bleached white sanitized building, when I walked through it, I'd feel as if I was the only colored thing there.
