Go Unnoticed (2) The Escaped, The Sad, and The Loved
Chapter 2 : Go Unnoticed (3) The Hungry, The Homeless, and The New
< --------This is Morton-------------
Pavane got up slowly and stretched, stopping in the middle, suddenly, out of shock that her wings weren't there anymore. Then she came to realise, once more, her terrible experiences. She didn't feel like continuing her morning stretch and decided to stare at her brother wondering what he was thinking and thinking about where they were going to go. He turned around to stare back at her and he said, "Pavane, do you know much about the human world?" Her eyes glazed and she ponderedthe amount of information her head held. "No, I've only heard it's one of the most cruelest worlds, but that's about it."
Tordion turned back around and thought about how cruel it could get. He decided to take it head on and went out the door, signaling for Pavane to follow. They got outside and looked at the bright blue sky with little clouds. One pedestrian turned their head to give the pair a strange look, only to lower their self-esteem. "I'm hungry," stated Pavane. "So'm I," Tordion replied, "We gotta find something, c'mon." So they began to slowly and steadily walk down the sidewalk. They passed numerous shops boasting their wonderful food and its smell.
"I can't stand it anymore," Pavane said, her stomach growling. They stepped into the nearest, most fanciest restaurant, who had the best smells, and stood right inside the door, their eyes wandering the walls and paintings. "Come right this way," a waiteress said to them. She had light brown hair and a look of annoyance on. Her eyes were always cast to her notepad and she only looked at them with suspicious looks. They looked at eachother and deicided they'd do whatever this person wanted to get some breakfast. She placed menus on the table and gestured for them to sit down. "I'll be right back to take your orders." Todrion sat down first, and picked up the menu. "It's ok to sit down, Pavane." She only looked on at the table, half scared of it. "Pavane." She took a step back and Tordion stood up. He grabbed her arm and placed his arm around her back. "C'mon Pavane, it's gunna be ok."
She stopped resisting and finally sat down, only to stare at the menu as it were poison. "Can you read human language?" Tordion said, flipping the page, looking exactly as if he knew how to read. She looked up, glaring at him and said, lowly, "No." He looked at her face and said, "Ok, I'll read it to you." He stood up and went to kneel by her. He picked up her menu and she avoided it as he picked it up. "Ok, you can get an omelet or a pastry or just some hot chocolate, too." She looked at the menu and turned her head. "Just get something so I can't worry about you starving for the rest of the day," he begged her. She glared at the table and finally said, "Fine, you get me something. I don't wanna decide. I don't know any of them." He gave her smile and said, "See, that wasn't so bad."
The waitress came out again and stopped at their table. "Have you decided? By the way, I know it isn't really my place to ask but, how old are you guys?" Tordion looked at Pavane and said, "She's 15 and I'm 17," (sorry I changed it, couldn't do 18). "Ok, um, I'll be right back," the waitress said, putting her pencil and notepad away. Pavane watched her, butas soon as she got into the kitchen, she wipped around, "We've gotta get out of here."
She had looked completely panicked and scared to death. "Why?" Tordion asked, extremely confused. "Right now," she said, standing up, the fright now taking a toll on her voice. Tordion reached across the table to grab her wrist. "Pavane, it's gunna be ok. You're gunna be ok." She looked around withhuge eyes and slowly began to sit back down, breathing rasply and whispering something. Tordion gave hera concerned look and stayed like that until a policeman walked in. He turned around and Pavane only had to adverther eyes to see him.
The waitress came out of the kitchen, andalmost ran to thepoliceman. She whispered something to him and heonly looked at Pavane and Tordion the whole time she continued to talk to him quietly. Pavane held his gaze and Tordion turned back to the table to look as natural as possible. He glanced up to his sister to see her still staring at the policeman. "Pavane!" He snapped at her in a slightly loud whisper. She only continued to stare and he looked down trying his best to look casual enough for the both of them.
Pavane watched as the policeman walked sternly over to their table and stopped with his arms crossed and looking down at them. Tordion slowly looked up and Pavane gaped with her mouth wide open. He was a large man with a thick moustache and chocolate brown eyes. "How old are you guys?" he asked, glaring at Pavane's wide open mouth with confusion. "I'm 17 and she's 15."
"You guys should be in school right now, where are your parents? Do they know you're here?" Pavane finally closed her mouth at the sound of her parents and put her head down. "They're dead," replied Tordion, with strength in his voice. The poiceman put his stance down and out a softer face on. "I'm sorry to hear that. Do you have a legal guardian that takes care of you?" They both didn't reply and the policeman took it as a no.
He kneeled down to their height at the table and said, "Come with me and we'll get you a home with some good people." Pavane looked up and her eyes lit up with joy, "Really? You'd do that?" The policeman smiled and said, "Yeah, I'd do that for you anyday. C'mon." She smiled and stood too quickly, bumping the table. "Tordion, c'mon. We're gunna get a new place to live." Tordion scoot his chair backward before standing and began to follow his sister out the door. He was curious as to what this policeman could do for them. Pavane was already in the police car when Tordion got outside, she gave him a smile out the window and he smiled back, lovingly.
Tordion got into the unknown car and looked at the bars separating him from the front of the car. "Don't worry, those are just for trouble-makers, not you," the policeman said after noticing his observing the bars, "I'm Jeremy, by the way." Jeremy watched the road most of the trip there, asking them random questions. "What school do you guys go to?" They sat there bouncing on the bumps of the road, "Um, we don't really go to any 'school,'" Pavane said. Jeremy looked into the rearview mirror and gave them a questioning look. "Well, then we'll have to enroll you somewhere." He concentrated on the road once more and they sat in silence the rest of the way to the police station.
Once they got there, Pavane was out of the car faster than both of the others. She was excited to get out of her mess and be happy. Jeremy laughed at her excitement and got to the sidewalk then opening the door for the two. The inside was large and had many offices with phones ringing off the hook and people looking frantic and running about with papers. Jeremy shouted to one of the other officers in a suit who was standing by another person working on his computer problem.
"Hey, Gordo! We've got some orphans here!" The guy named Gordo looked up and excused himself from the computer person. "Well, well. Where'd you find 'em?" Gordo looked down at the siblings and then at Jeremy. "At the Richmond's Garden, downtown." Gordo looked both, up and down and turned to Jeremy once more, "Alright, go ahead and set 'em up." Jeremy turned to them and gave a nod of his head to have them follow him. Gordo watched them go and went back to his computer problem.
"Ok guys, I'm going to set you up with a family so you can go and live with them for a while. They'll be called your foster family. They may even adopt you." Pavane was squealing with excitement with a huge smile on her face. She leaned over and up to her brother's ear. "We're gunna have a new family!" He turned to her and was glad she was smiling for once. He thought he'd never see her smile after he told her about her family. Jeremystepping into an office and got out some papers while the two sat down. "Ok,I'm gunna call in a caseworker and you'll get to choose where you go to live." He picked up the telephone and dialed a few numbers, "Hey, Jen. We got some orphans down here...Yeah...Ok, bye." He set the phone back down and looked at them, "How do you guys feel?" Tordion was only sat there feeling his emotions do nothing about this experience. Pavane was getting red in the face from excitement. "Obviously you're very excited," Jeremy said to Pavane.
Right then, a woman walked in with a briefcase. She had red hair and green eyes and a suit with a nice skirt to with. "Hi, kids," she said while going around them and opening her case on the side of the desk. She lifted her head from the case and said, "I'm Jen, and I'll be your caseworker. You just have to come to me if your new family is treating you badly in any way."
