Ch. 18: John Nighteye
Everything was black one second and then, slowly, everything started to light up until I was surrounded by nothing but white. I was even wearing a spaghetti strap, mid-thigh length white dress. I was pretty sure I was in a skirt before those things interrupted me.
I looked around, very curious. But then that feeling of being watched crept over me again and I growled. I hated being watched.
I whirled around and shot out at someone with my clawed right hand. My hand was caught by an index and middle pale finger.
Gasping in surprise, I pulled backwards and took in the man in front of me. He was tall, dark blue eyes and bluish black hair. His skin was unnaturally pale and behind him were two glorious white wings.
“Good evening, Rowan Sage.” He said in a voice that held power as much as I had felt in my own. I felt my cheeks get warmer in a blush.
“Of course, my invisible stalker would know my name. But I don’t know his so why don’t you be a good angel and tell me?” I basically challenged.
“I am not an angel. Depending on who had turned you into a monster determines your wings if you have any. Mine just so happened to be the Vampiress Angelina McGroove.” He supported. Then added, “And my name is John Nighteye.”
I frowned and crossed my arms. “Who is Angelina McGroove?”
John sighed, bringing a hand up to run through his dark hair. “I see your friends have not informed you of the three originals.”
I motioned the man dressed in white to continue. So he did, “There were three humans, a very long time ago, that was chosen for an experiment to try and fuse a human and an animal together. Note this happened thousands of years ago. The two chosen was Angelina McGroove and one of her dear friends, Lucifus Batsniper.
“The man that was conducting the experiment was Drake Dakula. The people of these days call him Dracula…” John said, disapprove lacing his lovely voice. “He managed to fuse Lucifus with a bat. But only bat wings. And Angelina a white dove. But they died the night afterwards. A couple of days later Drake was found dead in his room, his throat slashed.
“A week later and many village people have been killed the same way Drake had been. Many were curious. Not many knew about his death. A few towns folk went to the places were the three were buried. Instead they found a lovely woman with long white hair dressed in pure white, other than a few splashes of blood with angel wings, it seemed, on her back. A man dressed in all purple and black with black hair and bat wings. And another man, shaggy blonde hair and glowing red eyes with wings, made of entirely of bone. They all set off and created more beings, which today’s people calls vampires.” John finished, no a single emotion crossing his face except for adoration whenever he mentioned Angelina.
“And what does any of that have to deal with me?” I asked, more confused than before.
“To tell you yours and mine linage. We are from the originals. Well, not so much of you as me. I was the first person Angelina turned.” John walked closer to me and brushed a hand over my cheek then walked behind me and touched my back.
I gasped in obvious pain and almost doubled over. He had forced my wings out of my back.
“The only wings that hurt when are released… Some how, you are the strongest of all the others. Your Grand Sire is none other than Drake Dacula.”
I looked up at him, beads of sweat dotting my forehead and cheeks from the sudden and surprising pain of my wings. “And yours is Angelina? Are any of the originals still alive?” I managed to say.
John nodded.” Yes. And your friends, Cathedral and Rook, are one of the few chosen by Lucifus.”
I growled and pushed him away from me, spreading my wings apart and lowering into a crouch. “They are not my friends. I do not even know them.”
John sighed, “I have been watching you because your emotions can make you a very dangerous vampire, Rowan. You may possess the ability to destroy your own Grand Sire. But after you watched your father die you refused to accept any memories of the time you had in New York with your friends. And then caught making out in front of your boy friend.” He sighed though it did not seem real enough. He actually seemed amused.
“They are not my friends! I would not dare be friends with a werewolf!” I growled out again.
Then he was suddenly in front of me. His hands were placed on my cheeks, keeping me from moving. He leaned close and brushed his cold lips to mine in a kiss. It didn’t mean anything though.
As soon as he pulled away my eyes widened. I grabbed my head, stumbled and fell to my knees, screaming. My memories flooded back to me then. Everything I had tried to block and would have succeeded if not for this night.
It felt like hours of pain. Finally, when all has been returned, I tilted and fell onto my right side. I watched as the darkness started to surround me again.
Just as I was about to loose sight of everything someone else appeared, in a dress that look exactly like mine. She had long white hair, pale skin to match and angelic wings.
“A-Angelina,” I whispered to myself. She turned to look at me, smiled and nodded. Then she mouthed the words ‘I shall see you in the near future.’
I heard voices. Many voices but mere whispers. I also heard quiet snoring. Someone was asleep and talking to my mother. Who? Not my father, obviously. But I bet he could sleep and talk to mom at the same time either way. Then the words started to register.
“Someone had thrown a rock and when we came in both of them were unconscious on the ground. Rowan was bleeding though. And someone had stabbed Rook with something during the party, I am not sure or why.” ‘Elijah?’ I thought numbly to myself. It sounded like her.
“Oh, dear. I would never have thought. I am sorry I could not have come home sooner. But I was at work and there were a lot of things going on. Oh I am so happy that you had came here in time to help her out.” Mother was crying and I didn’t have the strength to get up.
“Will Rook be okay?” Mother asked.
“Yes. He will be. He just needs some rest.” I could hear the reassuring smile in Elijah’s voice.
Mother said good-bye. She had to return to work and was leaving me in the care of Elijah.
I groaned then. Suddenly I felt someone’s warm arms around me and forced my blue eyes open.
Blue clashed with green as I stared up at my, hopefully still, boyfriend’s eyes. “She’s awake, Elijah.” He stated simply and released me, moving away.
Elijah came over and sat me up. I rubbed my neck and looked up at her. “What happened?” I mumbled.
“You started a fight with a werewolf at a bad time, sweetie, that is all.” Elijah smiled at me the way a sister would and hug me. “But you are okay. Everyone is.”
I didn’t say anything. “Why couldn’t you guys allowed me to live the way I was before? I wouldn’t have to remember that I allowed my father to die.”
“You weren’t living at all, hun. You weren’t eating, you weren’t doing anything other than sit in your room.” Elijah brushed my bangs from my face.
I leaned in against her as she hugged me. “She killed him. I couldn’t do anything besides watch my father die. And then I killed her.”
Harrison was at my other side now, hand on my shoulder.” Who, Rowan?”
“The werecat, Kitty. She was sent by Javier to ‘teach me a lesson.’ “ I started to cry, unaware of the surprised looks Elijah and Harrison gave each other.
