You ran back into the dorm room laughing as you jumped onto the bed Hermione was already sitting on. You couldn’t stop grinning.
"Well???" she asked looking at you with knowing eyes. "What happened to make you so happy?" You started the story from when you went looking for Harry earlier on the train while she was sleeping, including your altercation with Draco and Harry's concern when he happened upon you.
"So when the carriages pulled up Draco practically pushed me into it after Pansy and the others. I’m pretty sure he regretted it immediately," you finished smoothing the fur of the cloak. "Aaaaaaand he kissed my hand." you added fast hoping she wouldn’t catch it.
"Who kissed you?" Ginny said sitting up in her bed and looking towards you, along with Luna to her far left. "Draco?"
"Oh NO!" you said pretending to gag. "KRUM!" The room erupted with shrieks and the bed bounced as the other two girls joined you and Hermione.
"What was it like?" Ginny asked.
You couldn’t help but laugh. "It wasn’t a real kiss, just on my hand," you said throwing a pillow at her. You caught the look Hermione was giving you and couldn’t help but feel annoyed. "What? I didn’t do anything wrong," you said recognizing the look.
"I know you didn’t, but its just..."
"Just what?" you demanded the smile leaving your face.
"You know that Harry likes you, you should have heard him the entire way up here. He wouldn’t shut up about you, he even asked us if you were staying home over break so he could spend time with you," she finished throwing her hands up. "You had to have noticed." The truth was you had noticed, but you didn’t have the same feelings. After a year at Hogwarts you and Harry had tried a relationship. After a few months you both decided it was best to just stay friends. You did have feelings for him, but it was complicated and there was nothing you could do about it now. After this year your life wouldn’t be yours.
"Ill talk to him all right?" you said. It was the only solution you could think of that would appease everyone involved.
"You better," she replied. "I’m not doing it for you." With that you got up and made your way to your trunk at the bottom of your bed.
It’s too late to unpack and I’m way too tired you thought to yourself debating what to do. Deciding that the unpacking could wait til tomorrow you pulled the curtains closed around your bed and got ready for bed. You made a mental note to bring Krum's cloak to him at breakfast as you slid under the red satin sheets. Surprisingly the bed was warmer than you thought it’d be.
Rolling over to your side you yawned and willed yourself not to dream as you fell asleep.
Traveling all day exhausted your body but it didn’t exhaust your imagination. You tossed and turned all night waking up and falling asleep in intervals until you thought you couldn’t take it anymore. Around 3 in the morning you had finally fallen into a deep sleep.
A thick fog had settled over the grounds of Durmstrang and most of the students were in their beds already fast asleep. All except for two. A fire was blazing in the males common room as Draco paced in front of the fire with his lips shut tight. This cannot be happening, he thought to himself. His parents had already made an agreement with hers practically giving her to him upon their graduation and their turning 18. They even had the Dark Lords permission. And here she is screwing up everything. Though you were destined to spend your life with Draco the agreement would be broken if you married someone else. She wouldn’t, Draco thought to himself. He knew you and he knew that you wouldn’t risk being disowned by your entire family for some silly fling. Realizing this, Draco stopped pacing and smirked. You were in his back pocket whether you realized it or not and that was more than enough for him. Extinguishing the fire Draco walked up the stairs and went to bed.
In another bed Harry was lying awake staring up at the ceiling wondering how he could get you back. Though you two had tried dating Harry was willing to admit that he didn’t try as hard as he could have to make the relationship work and that with all the problems with Voldemort and his always being gone that it wouldn’t work. After pondering his options Harry decided all he could do was live out the next two weeks, try to come up with something to win you back, and see what happened over Christmas break. Satisfied that it was the best he could come up with given the hour and circumstances, Harry took off his glasses and rolled over to go to sleep.
"Luna! Hurry up and get out of the shower!!" a voice yelled making you stir. "Get out! NOW! Daphne get up your turn."
Six o'clock had definitely come too early. "I’m up, I’m up!" You yell back to Ginny throwing your covers back. You immediately regretted getting out of bed when you stepped onto the cold floor. A warm shower would be welcomed. You quickly grabbed your uniform for the day and ran into the hot, steamy bathroom.
The shower had thankfully woken you up and you managed to make it down the stairs with Hermione and Luna to meet Ron and Harry for breakfast, Ginny had gone on to find Dean.
"I totally forgot!" You exclaimed turning on your heels and going back up the stairs. "I forgot Krum's cloak. Ill meet you in the dinning hall." you yelled over your shoulder. You missed Hermione rolling her eyes at Luna as they walked to meet the boys.
Ten minutes after 7 you had finally made your way back downstairs to the dining hall with Viktor’s cloak in hand. You straightened your skirt and pulled your hair out of your face before walking through the doors. It was apparent as soon as you stepped into the hall that everyone had heard what happened the night before. You faltered for a second looking for Krum and spotting him walking between the tables towards you.
"Morning Daphne, sleep well?" he asked.
"Very. I just wanted to give this back to you and say thanks again for everything last night," you said all in one breath.
"Don’t mention it," he said taking his cloak back. "Would you like to eat breakfast with me?"
You looked towards where you had spotted Ron's red hair and saw the entire table looking at you. "Maybe some other time..." you said feeling a bit disappointed. "I promised my friends I’d eat with them."
"Alright, how about I meet you at the staircase after breakfast then and Ill walk with you to class?"
"So did you really kiss him?" Ron asked as soon as you had sat down next to Harry.
"No I did not," you said not really wanting to tell the story again. "Hermione you have Ancient Runes this morning right?" you asked filling your plate.
The rest of breakfast was filled with conversation about how the classes were going to be split up and comparisons of schedules. The bell finally rang at 8 and as the food disappeared from the tables everyone got up to head off to class.
"Well Ron, Hermione, and I have Potions," Harry said grabbing his bag. "Meet you for lunch?" he asked handing you your bag off the ground.
"You can count on it," you said smiling and wishing everyone luck. You took another quick sip of your juice before it disappeared and went to wait for Krum.
"Ready for your first day?" Krum had come up behind you as you were scrutinizing a portrait.
"Most definitely," you say turning to face him. You knew it wasn’t possible but Krum seemed more handsome than the night before. Stop it, think about your schoolwork you attempted to scold yourself to no avail, you knew it was a losing battle. "Where is class held?" you asked adjusting the bag on your shoulder.
"Up the stairs and to the right," he said. "Shall we?"
You had to admit that for all the rumors of Krum being a complete jerk and a womanizer weren’t bothering you. Though the rumors did not completely leave your mind you figured getting to know him and his friends for the next two weeks couldn’t hurt anything. Its not like you were going to marry him.
Walking into the classroom you realized that you were the only Hogwarts student in this session. Crap. While you liked Durmstrang, and you couldn’t deny the scenery was great, you did miss your old professors and strangely your room. Class started promptly at 8:30 with the professor ranting off information the second he came in. You scrambled to get your parchment and a quill out of your bag before you missed anything important. Taking everything from your bag you noticed a folded up piece of parchment.
Daph,
I need to talk to you. Meet me tonight in the library.
Harry
You folded the parchment back up wondering what he could have to talk about. Glancing sideways as you put the note in your pocket you noticed Krum smiling at you. You couldn’t help but smile back. Turning your attention back on the notes you should be taking, you were more than surprised to see another folded piece of parchment lying on your desk.
