The Diary of a California Girl
Chapter 4 : The Diary of a California Girl
I hopped into the car. Travis and Lindsay both liked each other and knew it. I guess they didn’t wanna ruin their friendship, but if Eric asked me out I would say yes in a heartbeat. Travis asked Lindsay to be his date for the prom. She thought for a moment but obviously it was a yes. Both of them looked at Eric then to me. I didn't want him to ask him if he wasn't interested in taking me. I would like him to though. He scratched the back if his head and then grabbed my arm. I pretended like I was grabbing him and yelled "Look at this dress!" The dress I grabbed was and was ten sizes too big for me. I have only known Eric for a day but I’m beginning to think I like him! He’s smart and funny and so very handsome. We both started into each other’s eyes. Did I mention he had the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen? Well he does. Then we smiled with his perfect white teeth. I wanted to kiss him right then and there but I didn’t know how he had felt about me. He was just about to tell me something when all of a sudden Steve yelled out, “Ha Hey dude you gotta check out this tux. It’s awesome!” Eric and I just giggled and walk over. It was a pale blue tux with a tan shirt with ruffles. It looked just like somehting that my dad would wear, back when he was going to the prom with mom. We just nodded our heads in-in well like a yeah go ahead wear it kind of nod I guess. Travis had done the same thing as Eric and I. He wore a blak tuxido with a matching color dress shirt underneath. Lindsay’s dress was a violet color. After everyone was done picking out their prom dresses and tuxidos we left the mall. We went to get ice cream. The guys had gotten ice cream but they had never asked us. Instead they had gotten a large and split it with us. We have only known each other for a day but yet I felt like I have known him for years. Travis and Lindsay were so cute together. They just sat there eating there ice cream, whispering and giggling. I couldn’t help but just smile at how cute they were. I began to think that they were Eric and I, and how much I would enjoy being like that. All the girls would envy me at school, but I didn’t mind. I liked being with him and I believe the feeling was mutual. Well at least I hoped it would be that way. There was one spoonful left. We looked at each other yet again. I told him he could have it but I insisted he have it. We both took our spoons and tried to scoop it. He let me have it.
"Hey Girl!" he yelled.
I sat in the back with him and Travis. I was on the end. The top was down so I did my hair for nothing. I decided to put a low scrunchie behind my back so that it wouldn’t be blowing around in my face. We were going to the Calabasas Mall. They told me it's a big mall, and has tons of stores and restaurants. When we jumped out of the car I could feel Eric’s hand touch my back. It was right then and there that I knew he was my first Cali Crush.
"Let’s go into 'CHEE CHEE's!" Yelled out Lindsay. We all followed her.
"Do yo-u...wanna go to prom with me?" he asked skeptically. I looked at him and smiled.
"I'd like that." I replied. We smiled at each other.
Then he grabbed my hand, I put back the ugly dress and we left the store. Lindsay had got something super cute but to get the same dress would be kinda tacky. So then we went into the store Madre’s. I've been in there before when I lived in Ohio. I found some really cute dresses that I wanted to try on. Eric said they all looked good on me. There was this one dress that we both really liked. I pulled out the tag of the beautiful blue floor length dress. The price was $ 163.45. I had to use the credit card that daddy left me to use for the night since he knew this was very important to me as a girl in high school. The lady had rung up my dress and I had to sign my name like his as best as I could. It was just a bunch of scribbles really. "You are going to look really nice." Eric told me in a low tone close to a whisper.
"Aww...thanks." I responded.
After our little conversation we went to grab a bite to eat. This was where all the talk had begun. I ordered what I normally order which is soup and mashed potatoes plus I didn't want to look like a pig in front of Eric. "So how do you like Calabasas Melissa?" Lindsay asked me. "It's great! I hope we do not move again." I responded excitedly. They all started to laugh. Then we started to talk about what we are going to do this weekend. Finally we got our food. I was starving. Every so often Eric would take his spoon and have some of my mashed potatoes. He had the whitest teeth I have ever seen. I was so lucky to go to the prom with him. "Mmm..Want some?" Eric asked me with a full mouth.
"Ha thanks." I giggled. He had given me a bite of his steak.
I have never tasted anything like it before. Somehow the food here was better than in my home town of Columbus.
Lindsay and I talked about how excited we were to be going to prom with the guys. Then we started to talk about our jewelry, hair, and our nails. She was very pretty: A dirty blonde, with a nice tan skin and perfect size. She was surprisingly nice since she was one of the popular girls in the school.
After everyone was done eating their dinner we went to EXPRESSMEN, a men’s department store in the mall.
Eric grabbed my hand to help me look for a tuxedo. There were so many different colors ranging from white to black to red to purple! I liked the white but he made it clear he didn’t. We picked a traditional black and than a shirt to match the color of my teal and blue dress. “How about this one? Do you like this?” he asked “I love the color.”I told him.
