Ok, so, I guess the house isn’t that bad. But I still hate it. Nothing could replace my old house. I had a huge room (I mean like a palace), and the house had a pool and a large backyard. There was this great swinging chair that I used to picture myself sneaking boys into the backyard and making out with them in the chair.

My old room really showed who I was too. It was a light green with light blue furniture. I had a queen sized bed in there. I think it was actually bigger than my parent’s bed. But I should move on. I mean, I could get used to the 10 by 10 room. If only it wasn’t white. I think I’ll wake up one night and discover I’m claustrophobic. Whatever.

When we arrived the race for the bedrooms was astronomical. Millicent and I knew whoever found the best room first won it. Of course, I won, Millicent has short legs. I probably have 7 inches on her. But when I chose I didn’t realize it was right next to the laundry room. I’ll never be able to fall asleep.

Loch Raven High. I never knew three words could do so much. Changing schools changes your identity. Suddenly you’re no longer the Vikings, but the Ravens. Go Ravens. Woo. Suddenly you have to throw away your old school sweatpants to make way for stupid purple monstrosities.

This is what I’m thinking as my mom drops me off at the school. So many changes, and all I can think about is friggen sweatpants. I must be sick.

I look up at the huge building. This would be my school for the next four years. I take a deep breath, and walk in. Inside, there was an empty reception area with a bored secretary looking expectantly at me.

“You lost?” she asked.

“I’m a new student here. I’m Leslie Snow,” I mumbled. She looked me up on her outdated computer and printed out a sheet of paper.

“Here’s your schedule. Right now you’re in algebra, so you better hurry to class. Stop by later and I’ll assign you a locker. Welcome to Loch Raven High School.” She sounded rehearsed, like she’d been through that speech too many times. Like I wasn’t worth the effort to say something new.

All of the teachers, and I do mean all, made me introduce myself in front of the entire class. I rolled my eyes and got through it, with minimal swearing. Everyone was staring at me, like I was fresh meat. Great, I already made friends.

Two were brave enough to introduce themselves to me. “I’m Adelaide and this is Kaeley. How do you like it here?”

“It’s okay,” I reluctantly responded. They continued to ask me lame questions like that while we walked to our next class. Weird coincidence, they had all the same classes as me. At least someone will talk to me.

The lunch room was crowed, and all the different groups were divided into the typical stereotypical groups. You know: thespians, jocks, preps, losers, geeks, skaters, emos… I wondered where I would fit in. Probably at the nobody’s table. It’s cool.

I noticed Adelaide and Kaeley were sitting at the kids who didn’t fit in anywhere else table. When they saw me they waved me over to sit with them. Wake me up when it’s over.
