Ch. 16: A While without Rowan
“Where is she? She was suppose to be back last Sunday!” Harrison exclaimed, sitting at Cathedral’s table, drumming his fingers on the dark surface.
Cathedral frowned, “I am a bit worried. She was suppose to be gone only for a couple of days… Do you think something had happened?”
“Oh, I sure do hope not.” Elijah piped up. “That girl has gone through so much in her life. I really hope nothing bad had happened.” The brunette sighed.
Rook walked up behind Elijah and wrapped his arm around her waist. “We could go to Tennessee and check up on her. Her mother and father did give us the phone number and address, right?”
“Yeah, but they haven’t been picking up their phone at all! I have been trying, Rook. I even sent her a few letters. It is almost summer time and if I remember correctly her birthday is June nineteenth.” Harrison released an aggravated sigh. It sounded more like a groan.
“Don’t worry, Harrison. I am sure we will hear from her soon.” Harrison felt his sister’s hand on his shoulder. He stood up and pulled away.
“I’ll give her one more day. If she hasn’t called or anything by then I will fly down there.” He looked at the calendar. It was Thursday. He would wait until Friday to go to Tennessee.
It just happened that there was nothing from Rowan that night or the next day.
Harrison was in his room in his and his sister’s apartment, tossing clothes into a duffel bag. His sister came in without knocking,” Harrison, are you really going to go?”
He tossed an envelope onto his blue bed. He didn’t bother to watch as his sister came in and took the envelope.
Elijah sighed, staring down at two tickets to Tennessee in three hours. “Oh, Harrison…” She walked over to him and hugged him. “This is a big thing. Never before has a werewolf fallen in love with a vampire. Or one ever felt so strongly for another. I am so very proud of you, brother.” She kissed him on the cheek then left to go get her stuff together.
Harrison groaned, staring out his window at the little to no moon outside. Rowan had promised to be with him when his first full moon came. She was gone and he had to go through that painful experience alone.
“I’m coming for you, Ro. Just stay where you are for a little bit longer and I’ll have you back in my arms.” He smiled.
His smile faded when he heard an urgent knocking on the apartment door. He walked over and opened it, looking down at Cathedral.
“Harrison…I just called the Sage household. Mary Ann picked up. She said her husband had died in front of Rowan a week ago. Rowan hasn’t said or mentioned anything about us since then…”
Harrison’s emerald eyes narrowed. “I bought us all a ticket for Tennessee today. Get packed. We are leaving soon.”
He watched Cathedral return back to her apartment and closed the door. He punched the wall, not bothering about the dent in the wood. “What happened, Rowan?” He murmured to himself.
“Elijah! Hurry up now!” Harrison went and found his sister and told her all that Cathedral had just told him.
Taxi Joe came in a hurry. He waited for them to get out luggage in and get in themselves. The taxi driver sped out away from the apartment building and off to the airport.
They arrived just as the plane started to take on her passengers and they didn’t have to wait long for everyone to get on. Then they were off, in the air, flying towards Tennessee.
Harrison watched as they flew over the feather soft clouds. Over the city of New York. Away from it all.
He didn’t even notice he had fallen asleep. Harrison woke up to his sister shaking his arm. They got off of the plane, and left the airport. They were picked up in a taxi that was obviously driven by a human. A human that listened to the laws.
Cathedral and Elijah and Rook convinced him that they needed to stay in a hotel until they were sure Rowan would be up. Seeing as Rowan had a much different schedule than normal she wouldn’t be up until six. So they would have no other choice but to stay away until then.
As Harrison sat in his bed, sharing a room with Rook, he looked out of the nearby window. ‘I swear Rowan. I will be there soon to make you feel better. I know what it is like to lose a parent.’ Again, he didn’t notice when he fell asleep.
