Jenny was just about to sit on her bed, when a loud knock resounded around the room. Sighing, she rolled out of bed, grabed a candle, and swung open the door to reveal William. "Will?" "Jen." "What're you doin'?" "Found something." She raised her eyebrows at the very general answer, but recieved only a blank stare. "…You know it's night, right?" "Yup," William responded again; a hint of amusment played across his face. Jenny sighed again. "Will, can't it wait? I'm tired." At this, he frowned. "Oh no, not for this you aren't," and he began to pull her out of the doorway into the cold February air. "Will..." she whined. "C'mon, it won't take that long," William whispered, and with one final pull the door was shut and they were out in the night. Without hesitation, William began to walk forward along the dirt road, and, not knowing what else she could do, Jenny followed behind.
They walked this way for quite some time, neither one speaking to the other. *Ok, this is really weird...* Jenny thought as she kicked away the loose stones on the road. *I mean, not only does he just randomly show up at like 11 o’clock at night, but now he's just walking ahead of me and not saying anything... I wonder if he would ever notice if I just turned around and left…* But for some strange reason, his mission left her curious, and she continued to walk silently by his side: pausing every now and then to stare into his face.
He had pretty handsome features. They hadn't really come out that much until this past year which made them all the more interesting. His dark brown hair was fairly wavy. He had dark hair, but strangly enough: blue eyes. She never did understand how that one worked out, but she wasn't complaining. His eyes were... nice.
William had been her good friend for ages, she honestly couldn't remember a year without him even though he was a little less than a year older than she. They had always been really close, but things had begun to change recently. Not only had William grown to be around 6 inches taller than she, but Jenny began to notice new things in herself as well. She giggled everytime he made a joke, and would find herself absentmindedly staring off in his direction from time to time. To be quite honest, these things had sort of begun to freak her out a little, yet at the same time, she wondered if he ever found himself staring at her...
Their walk took a strange turn when William suddenly veered away from the road onto a small path. He must have seen some pattern, because Jenny couldn't for the life of her figure out where they were going. She had never really been this far out of town before, especially in this thickly wooded area. She quickened her pace and stood more directly behind Will. They turned right, left, and then right again, and Jenny soon began to drift off into good dreams of her nice warm bed at home. These dreams, of course, would become sour after she realised she'd have to walk all the way back to get there. *Damn, it's probably almost morning. Where the hell are we-* But her thought was cut short when William stopped abruptly in front of her. He seemed to be looking at something. For a moment, Jenny thought he had lost his way, but he soon turned around to face her with a calm and quite charming smile placed upon his lips. He motioned for her to come closer. What she saw took her breath away.
They were standing on a large flat cliff and beyond them was an entire sea. Far in the distance, the first light of morning was beginning to show. A soft wind was blowing, and on it it carried the salty smell of the sea. "Whoa..." was all she could manage to say. The wind caught her hair and it blew across her face. She was too bewildered to wipe it away, but then she didn't have to; someone else already had.
"I told you. I told you there was more to this little town of ours," William whispered in her ear. The feeling of his breath on her shoulder sent tiny shivers down her spine and her stomach did a funny sort of twist. "Will... where... how... oh my..." he just smiled at her; her stomach situation did not improve. "Does anyone else know about this?" He shook his head, "Don't think so. Just you and me." To her amazement, Jenny blushed; William seemed not to notice.
"C'mon, there's more." Jenny's eyes shot up in amazment. William nodded and started picking his way down a small wall to the water beneath them. The climb was not hard, and once down, Jenny grinned broadly. The deep blue water was lapping up onto the shore and multi-colored seashells lay scattered on the sand. Forgetting her fatigue, she ran forward and dipped her toe in the water, but quickly drew it out again. "Ah! It's cold!" At this, William laughed, "Well, you know, it is winter." Turning around to glare at him she leapt onto a medium-sized black rock sticking up from the the surf and then jumped to another further out. Still laughing and shaking his head, he followed close behind her. He saw the smile hidden beneath her glare; he always had.
As the two continued jumping from rock to rock, they spied an extremely large rock big enough for them both to sit down a little further out. They directed their course in it's direction. They were almost there, in fact, when a literally impossible gap came. No matter how she picked her was across, Jenny could find no way to get to the other side. She was still pondering this rather simple problem, when she heard a splash right behind her. Whipping her head around, she saw William grimacing. "Damn, this is cold." Jenny let out a soft giggle. *Dang, there I go again. When did I become such a girl?* "Are we just gonna… walk across?" She asked him uncertainly, staring down at the blue water. She didn't really mind the cold that much and it was only about two feet high, but she knew what response she would get at home if she got her dress wet. She'd probably have to sweep the whole frickin house if she got that wet.
William looked up at her. "No, I am walking across." *Oook, so he's just gonna leave me here?* She looked at him strangly, but before she could say anything, his hands were on her waist. Butterflies erupted in her stomach and the next thing she knew she was in his arms. "There is no way I am letting you get your dress wet. We'll both get hell from that for a week." She meant to laugh, but the sound never really made its way past her throat.
Once she had been safely placed down upon the next rock and William successfully managed to climb back up it only took them a few more minutes to reach their destination. The view was incredible: blue waters stretched as far as the eye could see. Jenny shivered. She wasn't sure if it was from the view, or the boy that stood less than a foot behind her.
"You cold?" Will asked when he noticed her shiver. She looked up at him to tell him that she was okay, but his eyes being so very close to hers made her shiver once more. Embarassed, she bent her head and stared down at her bare feet upon the rock. She felt him look away. "Sorry I pulled you out of bed..." Her head shot up to confirm if what she just heard was really true. She gave a small incredulous laugh, "Are you serious?" He looked down at her again. "Will, this has got to be the most beautiful and.. amazing thing I've ever seen in my life. You think I would rather be in bed?" At this he smiled. "Really?" She didn't back away as he began to slowly walk towards her again. "I'm glad."
It was here that her body gave way to another tingling feeling that caused her to shiver yet again. "You are cold..." he said. "No," Jenny looked up at him and gave an amused smile, "You feel good."
At those words, William gave her face one last scan and slowly bent down. She raised her head to meet him, and he kissed her.
: )
The end.
