Third person's P.O.V.
------------------------
They were still standing in the bathroom, Halle looking at the floor, Bert looking at her. Both of them waiting for the other to say something. Anything. Suddenly, Bert's phone went off and they both jumped.
"Don't go anywhere." He told her as he walked into the hall.
"Hello?" He said to the plastic next to his face.
"Hey Berty."
"Hey Beth."
"You guys on your way?"
"Ah.. Not exactly. How could you not tell her it was me? She freaked out."
"She... Well, she.. She doesn't really... like you."
"Oh, really?" He asked sarcastically. "And you could've warned me about how good she's looking...."
"Shut up! Dude, you gotta stop with that. Pedophile. Hurry up and get home, Mom's calling non-stop wanting to speak to 'baby Halle.'"
"Why doesn't she just call her cell?"
".... "
"Hello?"
Beth hung up on him.
"Damn."
Bert walked down to that store he passed on his way, completely forgetting about the car. He got a ROCKSTAR and a Monster, remembering that Halle loves them. He is not a stalker. She really told him that.
Before he fell in love started to like her.
And she started hating him....
Or so Bert thought.
**
When Bert walked back into the bathroom, Halle was sitting cross-legged on the floor, her back to him, smoking a doobie.
Bert gasped over dramatically before he shrieked, "Halle!"
"Robert," She said quietly, in a not-so-mockingly tone, as she stood up facing him.
"You shouldn't be doing that..."
"It's one of your business," she told him simply, "And it's calming."
"Dude. Like, come on... Seriously!" Bert struggled.
"VERY persuasive, Bert."
"I know. But, you know what they say? Sharing is caaaaring."
"Sure is." She handed it to him.
They sat there for a while longer, talking about life and how much of a waste it is.
Then how amazing it is.
Then about transvestites, hairless kittens, soap bubbles, and everything in between.
Then they were to tears and Halle thought she was going to throw up, holding her sides. Halle and Bert were laughing uncontrollably, when the power went out. All of a sudden Halle couldn't remember what was so funny. They didn't even realize the sun went down. Bert looked at his phone. The digital clock read 1:17am. He'd left Bethany's house at noon. He knew she'd be pissed so he just turned his phone off.
"Bert, what time is it?" Halle whispered sounding scared.
"1:20. . . Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
"You called me Bert." He grinned.
Halle could hear the smirk on his face. "So?"
"I thought it was 'Rooooberrrrrt'." He sang, mockingly.
"Who cares. Where are you? I can't see anything." She giggled, mostly to cover up her fear. She's terrified of the dark. Damned childhood memories....
He could hear how scared she was.
"Right here," he grabbed her hand, "Is this okay?" he asked her.
"It's great."
He pulled her up and opened the door. They walked slowly and carefully through the hallway and down the stairs; as if trying not to wake anyone. "What color are your eyes?" he asked her. "I don't know, what color are they?" She answered with a question, looking up at him. They're green. A very bright, angelic green. They shined through the dark like nothing Bert had ever seen. They're amazing. Halle started to feel a little better, seeing the street lights through the living room windows.
They got out to Bethany's car and Halle walked to the passenger side, but Bert beat her there to open it for her. Then she noticed she was still holding his hand. She pulled her hand away and her face flushed to the reddest of reds. They got in the car and it was still there, so she tried to cover it up. He noticed and told her, "Don't hide your face. It looks too cute. I love you're blush," as he put his hand on her knee. She gave him that look, getting scared, which only drove him mad. Bert didn't know what it was, but the way she looks when she's scared just gets to him. Definitely not in the best way. He got that look in his eyes. Halle became frightened again. She slapped him in the face, not realizing what she'd done. He flew his hand to the place she'd hit and snapped out of it.
"Halle! I'm.. I'm really sorry. So, so sorry! I don't know what came over me. Please, please don't tell your sister about this. I swear, it'll never, ever happen again. I know.. I know this isn't right." He pulled the Monster from behind his seat with a huge, hopeful smile on his face.
Halle saw the Monster and said, "I know you are, Robert," she spat. "I won't tell her. Please go get my bag," as she took the Monster. Halle was a smart girl. She is going to do just what Bert asked. She isn't going to tell Bethany.
**
Bert couldn't stop thinking about how he has to mess everything up. Nothing just seemed to go right for him. Halle might as well have stabbed him, calling him Robert again. He didn't know what it was but he hated it more that anything in the world when Halle Toro addressed him as Robert. She made it seem so formal, like it's nothing but something required. He went back into the house to get her bag. Hell, he would've walked to the end of the world and back to get her bag, just to see her smile.
**
When Bert left, Halle whipped out her cell phone.
Halle is a girl of her word. She was not going to tell Bethany.
