Chapter 2 : A Brendon Urie || THINGS HAVE CHANGED FOR ME || Chapter 2
The doors of the newly organized closet flew open. Leigh dragged her hand along the colors and textures of her wardrobe. "What the hell do you wear to a record release party?" she questioned out loud. She eventually took the dressier approach. A black razorback tank dress that cliched at the bottom around her beach-tan thighs. She pulled on some t-strap red jeweled pumps and some black chandelier earrings and she was good to go.
Her taxi arrived to Angels and Kings as soon as The Hush Sound was taking their bows. Her clutch rumbled as she took out her vibrating phone. "Down in front" it read from Jessica. Sure enough as soon as Leigh looked up the redhead was undeniably seen within the dark crowd. To add to her visibility she jumped up and down waving Leigh towards the cocktail table closest to the stage.
"Water" Leigh ordered herself for she was nervous. Nervous? Leigh Simon never got nervous. And for what? It wasn't like the most handsome, sweetest guy in the world liked her or something. No, No. It was even too much to say that. So they had met. It was a start. And speaking of a start...
A single headlight flashed a portrait to the crowd. The portrait played guitar calmly. The lights on the stage slowly rose as all the instruments joined in playing melodic chords that seized the attention of everyone in the room. "Gooooo Onnnnnn" The Halleluiah choir sang (not really). Brendon's light got turned on.
Innocence
Sunk the glow and drowned the covers
Send for all your absent lovers things
Leigh nodded her head along with the music. Brendon's eyes grazed the room like he was the lead singer of the Bangles. He finally stopped shuttering when his gaze fell upon Leigh almost at his feet, when she had been there all along. His eyes began to smile and his voice came out light and pure.
"Goooo Onnnn" sang the boys as the last chord was pushed through like a rock over the top of a hill. The crowd cheered and clapped.
"Pretty good huh?" whispered Jessica as the crowd began to die down and return to their drinks.
"I'm impressed for sure. Glad to be working here." Leigh smiled at Jessica.
A face came out of nowhere. It swooped down and kissed Jessica on the cheek. "How was it?" said Ryan Ross with sweat still percolated along his hairline.
"Amazing as always" Jessica replied smiling up at the handsome man. Leigh looked at her quizzically. "Uh... Leigh, this is my boyfriend, Ryan. Ryan, this is the new intern at FBR, Leigh."
"Nice to meet you" Ryan said politely shaking my hand. Suddenly another face appeared behind Ryan. It was Brendon. "Dude... you scared me!" Ryan put his hand on his chest. "Well... Leigh this is--"
"We've met before" Brendon said, never taking his eyes of Leigh. She smiled returning the look. Ryan and Jessica exchanged looks.
“Why don’t we take this to our own table?” Jessica said grabbing Leigh wrist and smiling behind at the left out employees and waving goodbye.
They went to a corner table. They settled down as Gabe Saporta started spinning tracks of the turntables and room was made for a dance floor. As the group conversed about the hypnotizing effect of the music, a spastic black blob flung into their sight. They adjusted their vision to see a slightly inebriated Bob from the Hush Sound.
”Celebrate guys! The records complete! WOOOOO!” He slammed a bottle of champagne on the table before dancing away to deliver another alcohol elf greeting.
“Well now that he mentioned it.” Ryan grabbed a corkscrew and four glasses of a table next to theirs’ and broke it open. He poured everyone a glass and Leigh cringed a little deciding if she should drink it. She picked up the glass and took the slighist sip. The liquid instantly warmed her body with a fuzzy feeling. She took another three sips.
“So tell me about yourself.” A voice interpreted Leigh’s sweet sipping game. Brendon was leaning in to hear over the music. Leigh stomach instantly flopped over twice.
” Well I’m interning at FBR and going to NYU for music business and producing.”Leigh finger comber her hair nervously.
”Oh a smart girl huh?” Brendon rested his head in his hand.
”I try, I try.” Leigh laughed taking another sip.
Gabe started playing a little self-promotion with Damn You Look Good And I’m Drunk.
”If I don’t start dancing I’m gonna self-combust.” Jessica said grabbing Ryan and heading for the dance floor. Ryan’s face looked less than happy but he followed Jessica closely anyway.
Brendon got out of his seat and held out his hand to Leigh, “Shall we?” Leigh just laughed and grabbed shaking her head in surprise. This was not her life. It was way too awesome.
The music was loud, the people were dancing, and the drinks were flowing. Just as a good party should be. Whatever Jessica was thinking about dancing worked because they were smiling and laughing like fools, even Ryan.
The next thing they knew they were walking around Time Square after the party. The night was chilly and the lights blinded them with utter happiness. This was the time and place. Between new albums, jobs, and friendships, things were changing alright. Roxy was open all night long feeding the children’s sobering up sweet tooth. Cheesecake all around?
They took it back to Leigh’s place putting their sore dancing feet up on her white coffee table and laughing about all the stupid songs they played that night. The clock neared 4 o’clock and everyone was slowly growing sleepier and sleepier. Jessica and Ryan were lightly kissing by the bar. Brendon and Leigh sat on the couch by the window facing each other and exchanging sleepily sweet looks.
”You know what this place reminds me of?” Brendon said pulling at Leigh’s little toes.
”What? The TV room in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?” Leigh curled her feet at the ticklish feeling.
”Well yes but also… one of those places in the movies where you always see the couples kissing in front of the New York Skyline. You know?”
Leigh gulped down her nerves and said in a hushed voice, “I’m not sure that I do. Could you reenact that for me?”
They both smiled. They connect gazes as Brendon began lean forward switching the placement of his body. He got closer, making his face parallel with Leigh’s. He leaned a bit more in and Leigh went for it. Kissing him sweetly and feeling his hand softly grab at her hip. They pulled away opening there smiling eyes. Leigh put her head down on his chest. Eventually after a few more charming kisses, they fell asleep in each other’s arms.
