Chapter 4 : A Brendon Urie Story || THINGS HAVE CHANGED FOR ME || Chapter 1
"Now boarding flight 2007 service to New York, Zones 1-3" The clear read voice over the loud speaker made the Simons'rise like zombies and called them towards Gate 14.
"Well Honey... uh. Good luck out there. Call us if you need help or anything." LeighSimon parents stumbled with their words. Anxious about letting their little girl off. Off to the big city.
"I'll be okay I promise! Just don't you two have too much fun without me."Leigh smiled as she hugged both of them goodbye and walked through the door to the airplane. She was immediately warmed by the heat of a Florida day that would soon turn into a beautiful New York City night. Her plane flew smoothly, all well Leigh thought about the days ahead. She would be going to NYU majoring in Music Business and Producing. She'd be interning at Fueled By Ramen Records. She was finally reaching all those dreams that she had had when she was young. Yup... Things were definitely changing!
After catching a cab to her new apartment, Leigh was hoping for the best. She had never even seen the place but bought it because it was a reasonable distance to school and work. She turned the key slowly and counting to three opened the door revealing a modern, simple, stylish all white loft. Between the curtains to the furniture to the lighting to the wallpaper, everything was white. Leigh liked it, clean, simple, chic. Everything she needed. The bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen were all the same: white. She collapsed on the white bed and fell asleep. Without unpacking, getting undressed, or... setting an alarm.

Leigh rolled over waking up beautifully to the sounds of birds singing and car horns honking. She looked at the clock.8:45!!!! She had 15 to be at FBR for her first day!
She pulled on white tight skinny jeans, a black v neck and a black beret. She had kind of a wacky sense of style. Kind of Rachael Bilson meets Mary-Kate Olsen. She swooped on some long pearls and grabbed her hobo from last night and was out! She walked 4 blocks to the FBR offices and rode the elevator up to the 11th floor. The doors opened revealing a secretary with a nose ring and purple highlights chewing on her pen. This was definitely not her dad's accounting firm where she used to work.
"Hey I'm Leigh Simon. I'm the new intern."She tried to sound bright and cheery despite the fact thatshe had not had my morning latte.
The secretary gave the pen a break. "Jeff wanted to brief you on today's work. His office is the third one on the left.
Leigh followed the directions and took a deep breath before opening the door. "Hello. I'm Leigh Simon, the new intern."
Jeff was a slightly old guy with a vintage emerald sweater that was pushed up his arms and a shadow that lingered on his face from his whole 'I'm too cool and busy to shave' look. He smiled, "Why yes you are. Please sit."
Leigh sat it one of the big purple beanbag chairs in his office. She heard the crunch of the little beads as she was engulfed by the purple blob. Different to say the least.
"So you came on an odd Friday. Tonight is a triple record release party because three of our artists: Panic at the Disco, Phantom Planet, and The Hush Sound, are all coming out with new records next week. So we are going to have a joint release party! You will be working with Jessica O'Brian in merchandise making sure that we have packed everything up so that we can turn around and sell it tonight." Jeff got up and led Leigh to an office near the end of the hallway. A cute redhead with star tattoos along her hairline was sitting in a heap of t-shirts, jackets, and other apparel with the name of the three bands across it. The heap filled the diameter of the room and was only not present when huge shelves with other bands merchandise was there.
""Hi I’m Jessica." she said looking up from the war zone.
"Leigh. So where do we start?" she took a place on the floor clearing away a small pile.
"umm... just we need to fold everything and put it in boxes so that we can drive it over to the venue. So start folding." Jessica and Leigh began talking about school. Jessica was in her second year at NYU studying Performance Guitar and Song Composition.
It took three hours to fold everything and pack it into the boxes. Then they had to travel over to Angels & Kings. Then they unpacked things laying them out on the tables provided and hanging some from the walls so that people could pick which they wanted. When they were done they helped people around the bar set random things up. Jessica helped the guitar techs a lot who were preparing for the performances. Leigh helped the microphone meneven out the sound.
"Hey Leigh could you go check that 3rd mic. It is supposed to be the lead one but I’m having trouble with it."
Leigh jumped on stage and grabbed the center mic, "Check 1, 2,3?" Leighwas unsure what to do.
"Sing a little something"said the mic guy.
"I... I made you an outcast, your just to fool to know it
so unborn yet so insulted
this world can be so cruel... this world can be sooooo cruel."
The room was silent scarring Leigh to high levels. Was that really horrible?Did she break the mic? Why are they silent?
Atallish manweaved through the techs. He was holding a guitar case. The light guys were shining a light in Leigh's eyes making her unable to the person that was now standing right beside the stage. "Where was that song from?" he asked. His voice was soft and almost hushed.
"Just from my stupid high school garage band. We won the localBattle of the Bands with that one." Leigh said squintingat the dark blob.
"It was really good. Your voice and everything." Leigh saw a hand held out in front of her. She grabbed it and it helped her jump off the high stage. As her eyes were adjusting to the light, the figure grew clearer and clearer. It was him. It was Brendon Urie. He was therefor his sound check. And he'd just complimented her.
"Thank you. I didn't catch you name." Leigh said like she didn't alreadyknow.
"Brendon... Brendon Urie. I'm in one of the bands that’s having the release party."He smiled and hisfull lips wrapped aroundtwo rows of perfect white squares."Yourself?"
"I'm Leigh Simon. I'm the new intern at Fueled By Ramen so I'm helping out with the party. Leightugged at her necklaces nervously and began to notice more perfect things about his face.
"Then I guess I'llsee youtonight?" Brendon said with smiling brown eyes that warmed Leigh like hot chocolate on acold dayin Florida.
"I guess you will"Leigh said unaware that she was even going to the party till then."Great" They bothwhispered at the same time. They laughed at each other.
"I got to go. I have a sound check to do." Brendon looked athis muttled sneakers.
"Of course... take care." Leigh waved walking backnear the frontto meet Jessica.
"Okayit's likethree o'clock. I just called Jeff and he said that we can go whenever we finish up here. ButI'm gonna stay and help with the guitars for the sound checks."
Oh no it's okay Iwanted to too. These mic guys need me.""
Leigh returned to the sound booth that was located in the back of the room. She watched Panic at the Disco warm-up, still thinking about Brendon’s compliment.
BRENDON POV
Brendon couldn’t get the voice and face out of his head. She was in the room he knew it, but the bright lights refused for him to confirm this. “Oh how it’s been so long. we’re so sorry we’ve been gone. we were busy writing songs for you.” He sang into the mic. He could hear the sounds of it being adjusted to fit the rest of the band. Ryan’s guitar was especially on point today and he felt like this one would be good.
“Ok boys your good now can we get Phantom Plant up there.” The sound guys shouted after a half an hour. Brendon jumped of the stage with a new spirit and intensity. He grabbed another bottle of water from the cooler. He sat down at the bar, closed his eyes, and took a long swig. When he opened them and came up for air he saw short girl with a long brown mane. It was Leigh. She was talking to athletic looking redhead. She typed something into her cell phone before saying goodbye and leaving Angels & Kings.
She was beautiful and so was her voice. But how did she keep such a cool around someone like him when most girls would be trying to rip off his shirt so they could sell it on ebay. Well he was going to find out and tonight would be the night.
