Day 17
I buried my face in the red silk pillow, grumbling. I swear, sometimes sunlight can be worse than any alarm clock.

I stumbled up, leaning again the bed for support, and slammed the curtains together before colasping back in bed.

“Wake up call!” A maid swung the door open holding a bell. Although it wasn’t that loud, but to me it seemed like a siren.

“Shut up!”

She looked disdainfully down at me, “You should’ve been awake five hours ago.”

“Yeah too bad.” I mumbled. “Now get out!!!”

“Hmph!” and she stalked out.

I sat up on my bed rubbing my eyes, after that I don’t think I could fall back asleep.

I looked down at what I was wearing, to think of it, I hadn’t changed for the last five or six days. I shuddered, my pants and shirt had huge mud stains, rips, and the smell of fish. It wasn’t the most comfortable thing I’ve ever worn.

I opened the wardrobe the corner of the room. Lets see, what were my choices.

Black dress, red and black dress, purple dress, red dress, black red and purple dress, I sighed, they were all dresses. Second of all, I’m going to look like some dark queen if I wear any of these with my hair… wait, I am a dark queen, or a soon to be one.

EverythingI had learned last night, everything that had happened, hit me suddenly. I recoiled in shock. I would’ve sat down that second if I hadn’t felt how uncomfortable I felt. I snatched one of the dresses and fitted into it.

I looked in the mirror, most ridiculous thing I’ve ever worn. All I need is a pair of fangs and whala- insint vamp. Oh well, at least it’s better than before.

I sighed, if this was going to be my home, I might as well know my way

around. I creaked open the door, and looked around. I was correct last night, it was just a hallway. The odd thing, though, is that there were no other doors.

I walked down the hallway,(slower than usual because of my crutches)which led me to a stairway. Hm, odd, I don’t rember that being there. The stairway lead me to a dining room, cooks buzzed in and out of the kitchen. One of them noticed me, “Morning.” he grunted as he fled past. Another stopped to look at me, “My, don’t you look suit for princessy.”

I almost flinched, I still wasn’t used to this whole royal thing. “Mm, yeah.”

She rushed past, leaving me to stand alone. “I-is there a map I can use or anything?”

“One in the kitchen,” said one.

“Can I come look at it?”

“No.” said yet another cook.

Says who?”

“The master.”

“Then can I have a copy?” My impatience began to break through.

They all glanced at each other, then one sighed, “Sure, I guess.” he rushed into the kitchen, and ran back with a crumpled up piece of paper, “Thanks.” I grunted and ran off.

* * *

“Why’d you give her that, you’ve just jeopardized all of our lives!”

“I didn’t actually give her the real copy,” the cook replied tardily, “It was a spoof.”

“Hmph, fine, but don’t keep doing her favors. We folow the master’s orders and his orders only.”

For the rest of that day, I explored the castle. The map was quite confusing, with some mistakes, but it was better than nothing.

I was now exhausted, so I made my to my room. The castle was amazing! Every room was elaborately decorated, with the most beautiful carvings. The castle

was colorful, with rather dull colors. There was no spark of happiness here, no joy. Of course, pinks and yellows and such are quite annoying colors but… I feel like I don’t belong.

I opened the door to my room, the squirrle dude was in cleaning again.

He looked up, “Oh, hey.”

“Hey.” I greeted back.

He went around cleaning a bit, and towards the door. He hesitated before going through it though, and as he slowly walked past he mumbled, “Do youself a favor, go back to your school while you still can.”

With that, he walked out.

If I had been drinking something I would’ve spit it out, if I was holding something I would’ve dropped it, anything to show how shocked I was.

How? How did he know. My eyes searched the room rapidly, while the rest of me froze. Then it caught my eye. My journal. No, I did not leave it unlocked, lieing open on the bed. No, he read it. Read it all. Everything, joining the academy, starting the journey, going to the inn, the battle with those forest rouges, the flashback, that nymph, dueling the dragon… everything.

I sat down on the bed, running my fingers across the journal. I bowed my head, everyday I had the same feelings. Shock, anxiety, woe… I looked at the cover. On the cover, a sticky note was still taped to cover. I smiled lightly, just a tiny

enchanment and that journal can survive anything. In faded letters, the sticky note read “My Teacher’s Log”. A single tear fell down my face, it read teacher’s log. Not Dark Queen Log, not Runaway Log, not anything! Not anything but Teacher’s Log.

Was this really where I was supposed to be. Was this my destiny? I closed my eyes, clutching the diary.

I’m not going to think about this anymore, this is my life, and I choose to accept.
