"Hi Valerie!" He says sweetly. I feel my cheeks heat up. "Zach.. I have to tell you something.." I whisper softly. He nods, and I go on. "I'll be moving soon." He looks at me like a ton of bricks fell on his foot and I was just sitting there. I heard my mom drive by and yell my name. I gave Zach a kiss on the lips and slipped a note in his hand, running to my mother.
I was getting ready for prom night. I didn't have a date, but I still wanted to go. I wish he was here. I barely remember him. Here I am 18 years old, and I still can't let go of the past.
When I make it to prom, I slink towards the table in the secluded corner. I sat down and watched everyone. They all seemed to be having fun. I felt a pang of lonliness noticing all the happy couples. I felt a tear slide down my face. I never thought prom would be this lonely..
"Valerie."
Wait.. was that who I think it was..? Nah, it can't be. I feel someone grab my arm, tugging me towards the dance floor. It was very dark and I couldn't see anything. Then the spotlights came on, illuminating the floor with a god-like light. My heart was beating rapidly when my eyes adjusted. I can't believe it. It was him.
"Valerie. Do you remember me?" He asks. I nod, as tears run down my face. I throw myself into his arms, while the other couples, oblivious to me as always, continued dancing. I regonized his scent and felt utterly homesick. But in a good kind of way.
"Zach.. you read my note.." I whisper. He nods. "And I feel the same way, Vally." His monotone voice rings in my eardrum and I smile. Our faces inch closer and they finally meet, like we did tonight.
