Xavier fell to the ground. I stared at him and I could feel my jaw drop.
"Come on," Pickle said and pulled my hand.
I stared at Xavier until I couldn't see him anymore. Twig still lay there on the ground, looking content. I fought back more tears and turned my head towards Pickle's back.
We ran up the stairs and Felix waited by the door. Nick was no where in sight.
"Let's go to the car," Felix said gently after Pickle disapeared through a door and walked out of the door. I followed.
Orland was sitting in the back of Nick's truck, bouncing with joy. He smiled at me as I passed. I smiled back.
But the car was also here and that's where Felix was taking me. He opened the passenger door for me then went around to the driver's seat. We both got in and sat there in silence.
I felt like breaking down. Twig was so nice to me the whole time I was there. She was the person that kept me sane. And I just watched her die. Somehow, I wasn't mad at Nick. Accidents happen.
Nick and Pickle walked out and got into the truck. Both of us backed out and drove off.
"Are you sad she died?" I asked quietly.
Felix's mouth twitched a bit. "Yea."
I looked at my hands. "Sorry."
He gripped my left hand and squeezed it. "She was helping us. Scarlett knew that dying was a possibility."
I smiled sadly and watched the trees go by. I didn't let go of Felix's hand however. They felt rough and worn out. But they still felt great against my soft hands.
"I didn't know her name was Scarlett," I said quietly, lookng out the window.
He laughed once and smiled. "It means red. It's sort of ironic that her hair didn't go red until she was 6."
I smiled weakly. "I miss her."
He nodded slowly. "Me too."
_ _ _ _ _
I woke up with my head against the window and a sudden urge to yell really loud. Felix put on the signal and turned right. I lifted my head and looked around. It was night.
"Nice nap?" Felix asked.
"Yep," I yawned.
Stars were clearly visible. We were in some kind of country because there were farm houses and fields of grass and hay. Tractors and hay-bailers were often parked beside barns.
"Where are we?" I asked.
He slowed down and we bumped over a cattle guard. "We're in England."
I raised an eyebrow. "How did we get here without a plane or boat?"
"Magic."
"Magic?"
He nodded. "Magic."
I scoffed, not believing him.
"Honestly, Jessica," He assured. "We're in England."
Confusion!
I looked in the side mirror and saw Nick's truck trailing behind us, Nick laughing while Pickle looked like he was singing. Orland was sitting in the back laughing along with them with Twinky in his lap. And Fawx was beside Orland with a huge grin on his face.
I smiled and looked back ahead. I pictured what I just saw again in my head and I whirled around. FAWX?!
"WHOA!" I yelled and pressed my face and hands against the glass.
Felix laughed. "There's this thing called a button which opens the window."
The glass slid down and I went down with it until my chin hit the door. Once my seat belt was unbuckled - yes, I'm a rebel - I leaned out the window, my elbows supporting my stomach.
I waved at them and they all looked at me funny before laughing again and waving back. I smiled and slid back in before closing the window.
We sat there for a quite a while until a huge question came back to me.
"Felix?" I asked. He looked at me from the corner of his eyes. "Was Blake the same dude you wacked?"
Felix nodded grimly. "Yes. Apparently a bullet in the head isn't enough to kill him."
"Is he dead for sure this time?"
He nodded again. "For sure."
I muttered an 'Ok.' and watched the road again. Something cold fell into my shirt and I jumped slightly. Felix's necklace was laying against my collarbone.
Another question perhaps?
"Was this tooth really Twig's?" I asked slowly.
"How did you know it was her tooth?" He asked, almost angrily.
I shrugged. "She told me."
He deflated a little and nodded. "It is."
"Why did she let you keep it?"
He smiled faintly. "Because she decided that it might come in handy for me. Plus she decided that she deserved it so she let me keep her tooth. It was a strange gift, but I don't think anything can top it."
I smiled and looked back at the road. Wait. How did they get here? How did Fawx get here?
"Did Fawx...?"
Felix nodded. "Nick told him that he didn't have to transport the cars but Fawx insisted that he could do it."
Sooo like Fawx.
We drove for another hour or something before a small house came into view. It was a pale blue with white shutters and flowers creeping up the sides of it.
I think it looked adorable.
There was a huge field that spread into a forest that creeped up on the side of the house and behind the field was a lake.
While we pulled up the driveway, a girl with brown hair ran out and started waving her arms around like a maniac. She looked a lot like Twig except younger, didn't have red hair and dressed more crazy. She was wearing a red too-too, hot pink high-tops, flourescent green skinny jeans and a yellow shirt with blue suspenders. What's with girls and suspenders?
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS DOIN' HERE?!" the girl screamed at us, running down the driveway. I swear her face was going to break if she smiled wider.
A smile broke onto Felix's face and he parked the car. Both of us got out of the car and the girl kept running towards us.
"FELIX! BUDDY-BOY!" She yelled and spread her arms out. Just like Twig, she had a light Irish accent.
I smiled and leaned against the car. The girl jumped onto Felix and hung off his neck.
"Hey, Aila," Felix said, hugging her back.
"Oh, Felix! It's been too long, eh?" She said and smiled at him. Aila detached herself and bounced on her heels.
Felix nodded glanced at me. He motioned for me to come over and I did. Aila smiled brightly at me and pushed her hand out.
"Aila Everard," She said.
I smiled back and shook her hand. "Jessica James."
Aila nodded approvingly. "That's a powerful name, my sweet." She looked at Felix with a mischevious smile. "Shouldn't under-estimate this one, cookie."
Aila left to see the rest of the guys and I raised an eyebrow at Felix.
He smiled. "Aila is... very, very, supersitious. She can read minds, detect bad vibes, all that stuff. I guess you could call her a fortuneteller."
I turned around and saw Aila putting Nick in a headlock while Pickle laughed. Fawx was pulling Orland towards the house, Twinky following.
Everything seemed really ok at that moment.
how wrong she was...
