"So this where it all comes to a crashing end,
Take my heart I'll take your hand,
And we'll be gone,
From this place.
After all I just wanted to see your face,
You've already got me in this race,
You may be winning,
But not for long.
I'm catching up,
Not holding back,
So just relax,
As I blow them all away.
I'm watching you,
I won't admit,
But you're getting hard to quit,
You're in my heart,
I'm in this race for good."

I opened my eyes after singing the first verse and first two lines of my song.
Yes. My song. You have a problem with that? I wrote it. Or... my younger sister Sam wrote it. But she's a beastly song writer. She wrote the lyrics, and gave me the right to the tune. But... that's not the point.
The point was, I was standing in the middle of the stage as Mrs. O'Brein, my choir director, clapped for my preformance enthusiastically. "Allison McCanden, you never cease to amaze me." She laughed, shaking her head. "I can guarantee your usual spot for the 25th." She said, sending me a wink.
The 25th. The Warrenson High School talent show. I'd been in the talent show, always on the 25th of March, since I was a freshman. Always the second to last act, and always the second place winner. I sent Mrs. O'Brein a relieved smile. I almost never got a comment like that from her. She was the Simon Cowell of our school music program, which meant, hallelujah, I could win this year.
"Sorry we're so late."
And there was the reason that I lost every year. A dark haired sex icon boy by the name of Joseph Jonas.
Joe has been in my gym class since I was in seventh grade. And my choir class. And I hated him.
Why?
Because he never ceases to win.
At everything.
Sports?
Ha. Star of the cross country and track teams.
Academics?
Straight A student. That's intuitively obvious.
Popularity?
Sweetie, I don't even begin to measure up.
Beauty?
Okay, this one was a little weird. But God, is he gorgeous.
Singing?
There's a reason that I get second place in every school talent show. And his name is Joe Jonas once again.
And I assure you.
I'm tired of it.
Because let's face it.
I'm competitive with what I'm good at. And singing? Singing is my thing. It's what I'm best at. I'm light years better than almost everyone in the state, but since there's three brothers who sing, play instruments, are all incredibly good looking, and well... overshadow me all together. I get lost in the shadow.
It sucks.
My lip curled back in an instinctive snarl as Joe, followed by his two brothers, approached the Warrenson High School stage. They jumped up, having not seen me, apparently, and began to get ready for their own audition. Let me introduce you to Joe's brothers, who followed him, plugging in an amp on one side of the stage, and taking off a jacket on the other.
Introducing:
Kevin Jonas
I don't mind Kevin, I never have. He graduated only two years ago, and he seems to be the only brother who really understands my pain at losing. Because he knows how much this whole thing matters to me. He respects my music. I think he might even respect ME. Which is something I never really expected from a Jonas. Final verdict? Worth knowing.
Nick Jonas
Quiet guy. He seems to know what's going on in everyone's head, which, to be honest, kind of freaks me out. I think it's because I tend to keep to myself so much. He's a song writer, a pretty talented one, but... he's a singer, along with Joe. And because of that, he doesn't really like me either, I don't think. At least he seems to realize that I'm a threat to his family's title as the most talented senior. Final Verdict? Strangely sensitive. It tends to scare me.
And then there's Joe. But we don't talk about him unless we have no choice.
Mrs. O'Brein beckoned me off the stage with a roll of her eyes at the fact that the three brothers hadn't seen me. I slipped off the front of the stage and took the seat right behind her with a sigh.
The choir director chuckled. "I know, you love these boys." She said sarcastically. "But they have to audition for the same reason you do." She muttered as Kevin played a chord to see if his guitar needed tuning.
"And that reason is...?"
My teacher didn't get a chance to answer, the three boys had started to play.
"Run, Run like you do,
I'm chasing you,
I'm on your tail,
I'm gaining fast,
Your going nowhere,
Try to fix what you've done,
Turn back the time,
The night is gone,
And then we're falling faster now,
Pushing me away,
Every last word, every single thing you say,
Pushing me away
You try to stop now but it's already to late
Pushing me away
If you really don't care just say it to my face
Pushing me away
Push push pushing me away
Stop! Tell me the truth
Cause I'm so confused
Spinning round these walls are falling down and I need you
More than you know, I'm not letting go
I'm getting close, so take my hand
And please just tell me why-"

Mrs. O'Brein, having seen the pained look on my face, held up a hand. "That's enough boys. You're in, as always." She said to them, waving the trio off the stage before turning to me. "What's wrong, Allie?" She asked.
So my choir director was more of a friend than a teacher by this point in time.
And as if she didn't know what was wrong.
I sent her a silent shake of my head, but I'm pretty sure my eyes gave away everything.
Some people really can win them all.

Whoa, new story? WEIRD.

Well, I just wanted to get the first chapter out on this guy before finishing SaTFM. That one should have three, four chapters more, and that's it. After that, no more Sara Freese, unless she makes some freak one shot appearance. So love her while you can. Hope you enjoyed the first chapter of wh4pd!
