Running Chapter 1

              Chapter 2
                  He handed me the surfboard and said “Don’t worry I have an extra towel.” I got up and followed him to the water. “Now first you have to do is paddle for a little bit and when a wave comes your way turn the board around and jump on!” Rob instructed me I gulped. I walked into the ocean. I kept on walking until the water was nearly at my waist. I did a belly flop onto the surfboard and started paddling. A few minutes into paddling a wave was coming my way. I turned around and I was swept up by the wave. For all of five seconds I felt great, until I went plummeting into the water.
                 “Nice wipe out!” I heard Rob laugh as I came up to the surface of the water. “You were doing great for all of two seconds.” I glared at him and said “It was not two seconds it was five.” We had a glare-down in the water for a few seconds before we both burst out laughing. We both trudged out of the water and he gave me a towel. “You should’ve seen your face when you fell.” Rob said laughing “Well, it was my first try.” I said punching his arms “It was pretty good.” He said shrugging “on my first try I didn’t even stand up before I fell.” I thought of Rob trying to balance on a surfboard and falling and burst out laughing “Hey! What’s so funny?!” he asked “Nothing” I said still laughing. “By the way here’s your book.” He said handing it to me. I looked down at the cover and (somehow) was reminded of Becca. “Hey, Rob?” I said looking over at him “yeah?” “Does Becca like pearls?” I asked “She loves ‘em.” He said.
                    I took out the pearl necklace from my wet pocket and it was too wet. I was walking home from the beach I was still wet. My hair was dripping. I looked up at the sun, it was setting. “Better get home soon, or Mom is going to have my head.” I thought I ran the rest of the way back.
                    
                   When I got home I was panting. “Why are you wet?” asked my mom “I went surfing.” I said smiling “Where’d you get a surfboard.” “There’s a surf shack with surfboard rentals.” I said quickly she looked at me weirdly and went back to reading her book. I was amazed she bought my story, but I wasn’t prepared to start asking questions!
                       I walked into my room and looked around. I hadn’t cleaned it since we came to Seacle, and my computer was littered with bottles and food wrappers around it. I smiled it was just like home. I lay down on my cluttered bed and began to read. “Beep, beep, beeeeeeeeep.” My cellophone was ringing! I looked at the caller id. It said “Unknown name.” I answered it anyway. “Hello?” I said “Hi Mads!” I recognized that voice! It was Rob! “Hi Rob!” I answered back happily “What do you want?!” I asked still joyful “What?! Can’t a friend call a friend?!” he said laughing “Ok then, talk!” I said “How do you feel about… CHEESE MONSTERS?!” he screamed into the phone “What? Cheese Monsters?” I asked dumbly still laughing Rob said “Don’t ask my bro asked me that.” “Is that all you want to tell me?” I asked “Yeah pretty much.” And he hung up
                       I cracked up. Cheese monsters! I was still laughing when my mom called up to me “Madeline?! Who are you talking too?!” “Nobody!” I called back “Then why are you laughing?!” “My homework is so easy it’s funny!” I hoped that convinced her “You better not have been talking to anyone!” Ugh! I hated that! Why don’t they want me to have friends?! “No! I’m a friendless loser!” I shouted half sarcastic. There was silence and I realized my mom gave up. I went back to reading.
               
                 I woke up groggily and looked at the clock. 12:00 wow! That nearly beat my personal record of waking up at 12:57. I reached toward my phone and decided to yell it at Rob. I grabbed my phone and quickly dialed his number. A young voice answered “Hi Rob’s girlfriend!” it said “this must be Rob’s little brother” I thought “Hey, is Rob there?” I asked “No he’s with his other girlfriend.” He said he sounded kind of disgusted.  “I hate her.” He continued “She tells me to ‘shut up’ and ‘go away’. I just want to hang out with my brother and she comes over!” I can tell he was letting out his feelings on me “He’s my brother!” the little boy continued to shout into the phone “I at least should see him for a day!” “Yes” I said nodding “you deserve to see your brother. By the way… CHEESE MONSTERS!!” I screamed into the phone Rob’s little brother began to laugh and I hung up. I felt bad for the little boy. All he wanted was to see his brother again.
                   I got dressed and grabbed my book. I walked out the door not telling anybody. I walked calmly to the beach. As I walked I passed the mall. “I need some new clothes.” I thought I walked into the mall and walked around. It wasn’t that big but it was good enough. Everybody seemed to know each other; it made me feel like an alien. For a few hours I bought some clothes. Not much just two tops and a pair of pants. I was leaving the mall when I heard a familiar voice “Hey! Maddy!” I looked behind me running toward me was Rob; trailing behind him looking annoyed was Becca. “Hi!” I yelled back we ran up to each other I punched his shoulder “You leave you house way to early.” I said laughing “What do you mean?” he asked dumbly “I tried calling you at noon but you were gone!” I shouted “Well call earlier!” he shouted back “But I woke up at noon!’ I shouted before he could say anything else Becca walked in “Um, sorry to break up the reunion.” Becca said obnoxiously “I’m still here too.” “Yes” I replied “Oh! And Rob’s little brother hates you.” “I don’t care about that little brat.” She said as though she told it to everybody I looked over at Rob, he looked offended.  “Well I got to go.” I said quickly and left.
                          Ok I now officially hate Becca! She likes pearls but won’t accept that pendant, she keeps Rob away from his little brother, and she hates me! Ugh! How could anyone be so heartless?! Why does Rob even hang out with her?! I was fuming until I accidentally ran into someone. “Sorry” I mumbled not looking at the person “Do I know you?” asked the person I looked up and saw the most beautiful face I have ever seen. “I-I don’t t-think so.” I couldn’t help but stutter “Hey! You’re the new kid!” he exclaimed “What’s your name again?” “Maddy.” I replied nervously “Want to meet up at the beach on Friday.” He asked “Sure, but what is your name?” I asked “Drake.” He said before he ran off
                            When I got home my cell phone began to ring. It was Rob. “Hi Rob.” I said “Hey, um sorry about earlier.” He said awkwardly “Maybe I could make it up? Meet me at the beach Friday ok?” “Sure.” I said I hung up and sat down on my messed up bed. Wait! I’m meeting Drake on Friday at the beach! Great I have a date with two boys!!!
