“Oh my gosh, I totally want to meet this guy!” Anna said as she bounced on my bed excitedly, chewing loudly on a piece of Stride gum.
“Anna, chill out for me, okay? You’re making me more nervous!”
“Oh, come on Danny, don’t give me that line. You’ve been talking to this guy through a pen pal thing for months now, you’ve exchanged a phone call, and you’ve seen a picture of the guy. He’s not a forty year old dude who wants to rape you senseless.”
I paused. “That was way too long of a reassurance. I think I’m going to puke.”
“No, no, Danielle Lorraine Carter, you listen to me right now. This guy is nice, sweet, and insightful. Now, he is here as your friend and nothing else, okay? He doesn’t want to murder you or sexually violate you. Now, do the world a favor and finish buttoning up you shirt.”
I looked down. My bra was showing big time.
“Okay, pick out a tie for me and find me some earrings.”
Here we are, standing in the middle of the San Francisco International Airport.
And I’m freaking out.
There are so many people coming off of that plane, where is he? Oh god, did I totally forget the time or something? Am I way too early?
Why am I thinking this way?
“You see him, Anna?” I asked nervously, pacing back and forth next to her.
She rolled her eyes. “You need a calming Rockstar.”
I stopped. “How is that supposed to calm me down?”
“Stop asking so many questions and give me a five. I’m buying you one whether you like it or not.”
I dug a five out of my pocket and handed it to her. She skipped off to the vending machine and put in the five. I started to pace again, keeping an eye on the escalator.
Come one, come all! Young and old, come to the circus! This day only, see the nervous wreck!
“Here. Take it.”
I looked down. Anna held a Rockstar Punch Triple Shot under my nose. I grabbed it from her, ripped off the plastic and the lid, and took a long, slow drink.
Anna stared. “Okay, you’re going to have to pee in thirty seconds.”
“I’ll hold it.”
I tapped my fingers on the can and fidgeted nervously. This was taking forever, why was this taking forever?
Why was he getting held up?
“Where do you think he is?” I asked hurriedly, voice quivering.
“I really don’t know, babe.”
I stood there, moping. Anna scoffed. “Okay, that is it. Give me your pad of paper.”
I did what I was told.
“Sharpie too.”
I handed it to her. She flipped to a blank page and quickly scribbled something. She gave me back the sharpie and held up the sign. I looked at it and groaned.
It read VILL VALO IS NEEDED HERE
“Anna, it’s a wonder I love you.” I said, sighing.
“Always and forever.” She said without changing her expression.
She stood that way for about five minutes before she decided to mix it up. Like a cheerleader at a car wash, she started to walk back and forth, swaying the sign back and forth, shaking her hips and adding dance beats. Soon enough, she was full out dancing, holding the sign out in front of her, spinning around happily, obtaining stares from random passersby. I groaned one more time and sat down on the horrible plastic chairs that the airport had.
This. Sucked. Major. Ass.
I hummed some random tune to pass the time, my mind believing that he would never come and that I had been played.
That was until I heard someone clear their throat.
“Hey, Danny.” The voice was cool, calm, and had a slight accent.
I looked up. My head could have exploded.
There stood Ville, looking slightly jet lagged and very, very happy. He was dressed in a black beanie with his hair poking out underneath it, a long scarf that was wrapped around his neck a total of three times, a black jacket, a black shirt that said KISS, slightly frayed skinny jeans, and a pair of slippers. He obviously dressed for comfort. It was, after all, a long flight.
“Well?” he said expectantly, smiling.
“Well what?” I asked, smiling back.
“Don’t a get a ‘Hi, nice to meet you for the very first time’ hug?”
I added teeth to my smile and jumped up into his welcoming arms, happy to finally properly meet him. His hug was warm, inviting, and made me feel safe.
Awesome!
“Ville, first I want to let you know that I’m very near going to murder you for making me wait.”
He shrugged. “Customs are evil, not my fault.”
“Secondly, this lovely… psycho person is my friend Anna. The mastermind behind all of this.”
She saluted him. “Anna White, at your service!”
He nodded. “You spell my name V-I-L-L-E.”
She looked down at her sign. “Dammit, I knew that, too!”
Ville smiled. “So, can we go get my bags?”
“No, you have to go naked for the entire year.”
He paused, then shrugged. “Sure, why not?”
Anna looked straight at Ville and me. “Naked guy in your house, I am SO moving in with you guys!”
I laughed. “Let’s go get them, they’re probably going to disappear if we don’t.”
Do you live, do you die, do you bleed for the fantasy?
No picture.
Me sorry.
