I walked into class the next day. Walked in and everyone was staring at me. Everyone except Hayley, who refused to make eye contact.
"You." Josh said, standing up and getting in my face. "Stay away from Hayley you little homo."
I felt my mouth drop open.
She didn't tell Josh.
She wouldn't tell Josh.
She told Josh.
"Get the fuck out of my face douche bag." I said through clenched teeth. My hands were shaking with anger.
I couldn't help it.
I decided to let my anger out, for once in my life. And I punched Josh square in the nose.
After that I felt arms grab me around the waist as I tried to inflict as much damage on my target as possible.
"Kristy." Jeremy's voice said in my ear. "He's a douche you know that, stop struggling, OW." He shouted as I kicked him in the shin. "STOP."
He successfully dragged me out of the room and into the hallway, as class was starting.
"Come on." I growled in his ear. "Let me go."
"Uh, no."
"Come on! Just let me go. God, I just didn't think she'd tell him. I really didn't think she'd do that to me."
"You know she probably just let it slip."
"Yeah. I kn--" I started as the classroom door opened and Josh stumbled out, random kid on his arm. He was clutching a wad of bloody tissues to his face and sending a death glare in my general direction.
"I meant what I said." He said as he passed, voice muffled by his hand.
I felt a scowl settle on my face.
"Come on, we can go back in." I said as I shoved the door open.
"Nice of you two to join us." The teacher said, barely looking up.
We muttered our apologies and sat in our desks, as i sat there surrounded by a feeling of hurt so strong it was almost tangible. My eyes kept wandering over to Hayley, and she still refused to make eye contact.
The rest of class went on forever. When the bell finally went off, I dragged Jeremy around to the back of the school, because I'd be damned if I sat in there and listened to the rumors Josh decided to start. So instead we sat on the low brick wall out back while we talked and I smoked.
The lunch bell rang and someone stepped around the corner. My heart lept, because in my mind it was Hayley and she was coming to apologize and tell me she loved me and couldn't live another moment without me.
But nope.
It was just Zac.
DAMN.
"So I heard-"
"Shut the fuck up." I said, unlit cigarette dangling out of my mouth.
"-that you gave my brother a bloody nose."
"She sure did. She also gave me a gynormous bruise on my leg."
"Awesome. What'd he do to piss you off so much?"
"Zac not a good ques-"
"He called em a homo and told me to stay away from Hayley."
Zac snorted. "Oh that? I've known about that for ages."
"HOW THE FUCK HAVE YOU KNOWN?!"
He shugged. "It's not rocket science. I mean come on, do you realize how you act around her?"
"And how would that be?"
"One word. Sa-woon."
"Sa-woon?" I said. "What the hell does that mean?"
"You know it's that feeling you get...you know. Don't make me explain it."
"EXPLAIN IT ZAC, OR I WILL CURBSTOMP YOUR ASS I SWEAR TO GOD."
"...uh. Passive agressive much?"
I reached out to gab him by the back of the shirt and he squealed in fear. "OKAY OKAY."
He took a deep breath, and continued on looking rather uncomfortable. "It's that old cliche feeling of love where you can barely stand to look at a person because you get butterflies in your stomach and you mind starts racing and you can't even stand that you're not with them every waking moment and you feel like that until you look away." His words came out rushed.
"That's sa-woon."
"That's kinda...deep. Zac you feeling ok?" Jeremy said, and I couldn't tell if he was joking or not.
"Yeah..?"
I couldn't focus. If how Zac described it was true, then sa-woon was the correct term.
And I couldn't do a damn thing to stop it.
The trio walked back inside and all chatter stoped, as everyone stared. I felt incredibly angry because I knew what had happened. I knew he started some nasty rumor, probably something like me attacking Hayley and trying to force her into something or something like that. I could almost feel flames of anger rising in my eyes.
"Hey." Jeremy called out to a group of preppy girls. The all turned every blue-contact-covered eye was on me. "What'd you hear about her?" He asked. Such the charmer.
I crossed my arms in front of my chest and tapped my foot impatiently.
"Josh said she's a dyke." Caroline Dawes, a bottle blond carbon copy said. "And from what I see," she looked me up and down. "She is."
"Oh you fucking bitch." I said, my voice shrill as I lunged out of Zac's grip and right at her pretty plastic surgery face.
