So normally I catch on to math pretty quickly, and it won't take me long to figure out something I don't understand. What I'm not used to is learning something on Monday and come Friday I still don't understand it.
"Do you get it now?", Joe teased, the question becoming part of his daily routine.
"No", I growled back and continued to scribble notes.
I was amazed I hadn't just given up yet, like the rest of the class had.
"That sucks", he shook his head with a smirk.
I glared at him before returning to my notes. I knew what he was doing, he wanted me to beg him to tutor me, to have me grovel at his feet so that he would share an ounce of his mathematical genius with me. Yea, not gonna happen.
"You know, I could tutor you, all you gotta do is ask", he said with an innocent smile.
I turned to him with a death glare, only to be met by his smile, "I tried that, remember?"
Joe pretended to think and I rolled my eyes. This was getting ridiculous.
"I do recall you asking for something from me...", he scratched his head.
I shook my head and turned back to the completely incomprehensible notes on the board.
"I know you need the help, I can see it", he taunted.
"Look, Jonas, I'm not gonna beg for your help, so just knock it off. I really don't understand this and your constant talking isn't helping", I hissed at him.
"Ms. Parker is there a problem?", the teacher called from his desk.
I sat back in my chair, "Nothing", I grumbled.
"Actually, we were just discussing the work and how I'll be tutoring her on the weekends", Joe said with a grin.
I swear I got whip lash from the speed my head snapped around to face the abomination next to me.
"What?!", I hissed.
My eyes darted around the room to the other students who were now smirking, talking behind their hands or making catcalls.
"You've got to be kidding me", I groaned and sunk into my chair.
"See you at my house, let's say, Saturday at noon? I'm busy tonight", Joe said in the fakest apologetic tone ever.
"I look forward to it", I said in a sickeningly sweet voice.
Joe simply grinned and winked, "Me too, babe."
"Shut up, Jonas."
--------------------------------
"Federica, sweetie, someone's here to see you.... Federica.... Federica!"
"Ah! What?!", I sat up straight in my bed, my eyes squinting against the too-bright light.
"I said, you have a visitor. He says he's your tutor?", my mom asked with a questioning look.
I looked at her, confusion sprawled across my face, "I don't have a- oh...", and then it came to me.
It.
"Since when do you have a tutor?", my mother asked suspiciously.
"Since math's become impossible and he's the only one that understands it. Tell him I'll be down in a bit", I said, sliding out of my bed and walking towards my bathroom.
"Hurry, don't keep him waiting", my mother warned as she walked out of my room.
God, that woman and her mannerisms would be the death of me...
-------------------------------
Fifteen minutes later I walked into my living room only to find the thing texting on his little iPhone. His head snapped up upon hearing my footsteps and he smirked.
"Well, she finally arrives", he said, standing and sliding his phone into his pocket.
"Ha ha, Jonas, you're hilarious", I said dryly, stuffing my own phone into my purse.
"It's a gift", he shrugged, "now come on, let's go."
I sighed and led the way out of my house, calling a goodbye to my mother on the way. I wasn't dressed for anything special, simple jeans covered my legs and complimented the light blue t-shirt from American Apparel I had dawned. My white flipflops smacked against the concrete walkway from my front door to the sidewalk. My eyebrows pulled together when I saw that there was no car out front.
"Where'd you park?", I asked, adjusting my sunglasses.
"Oh, I didn't. I walked", he said with a simple smile.
My jaw dropped as I stared increduously at the boy.
"You're kidding", I wanted to kill him.
I had just woken up! And he was already expecting me to walk all the way to his house?!
"Nope", he smiled and began to walk down the sidewalk.
I hurried to catch up with him as he walked away, "Well how far away do you live?"
He shrugged, "Not too far, forty five minute walk at the most."
I tossed my head back and groaned, my blonde hair blowing slightly in the wind. This is by far one of the worst wake up calls I have ever gotten, and with Chasen as your best friend, that's saying something.
--------------------------------
"Aaaaaand goodnight", I jumped straight onto what I presumed was Joe's bed.
"That's not my bed", or not...
"Shut up, yes it is", my head snapped up at the arrival of a new voice, "Hey, Alex."
"Um... hi, Kevin?", I said, or more asked.
Since when did Kevin Jonas know who I was.
"You write the gossip column... right?", he hinted.
"Oh, right, yea I do... um, nice to see you", I smiled, still lying on Joe's bed.
"Alex, get off my bed, you're all sweaty", he teased and pushed me off.
I fell to the floor with a thud, "Ugh, and who's fault is that, you little devil child?!"
Kevin picked up his guitar and shook his head, "Joe did you make her walk all the way here?"
Joe smiled with squinted eyes while Kevin picked up a pillow and smacked him across the face. I laughed, pleased to know that someone was on my side.
"It was good exercise!", he argued.
Kevin just shook his head and turned to me, "Please ignore his behavior, I swear not every Jonas boy is like him-"
"Joe!!!!!"
"Except maybe that one", Kevin nodded as a small boy came bolting into the room.
"Frankie!!", Joe's face lit up and he laughed as the kid tackled him.
"Who's that", Frankie asked, looking right at me.
"She's the one I'm tutoring in math. Her name's Alex, but if you call her Federica she gets really mad", Joe said mysteriously as Frankie nodded his head in comprehension.
Why haven't I killed him yet?
"Come on, Frankie, let's let them work", Kevin said, picking up the boy with one arm.
Frankie screamed and laughed as Kevin carried him out under his arm, guitar in his other hand. Joe smiled as he watched them leave before turning to me.
"Don't you just love that little guy", he said with a smile.
"A lot more than I love you", I said with a smile of my own.
Joe rolled his eyes and shook his head, but that smile was still there. That's when I remembered, Joe liked me, and right now we were alone in his room... I was going to have to be on guard at all times. If what I've heard was true, Joe is one to make sudden and rash motions.
"So on to business", I said quickly and took my notebook out of my purse.
Joe kept his eyes on me for a few moment before nodding, "Yea, we better get on that."
I glanced at him before turning my attention to my notebook, flipping through the pages to the right notes. Well, as long as I was getting the help I needed, I really couldn't complain.
And do you ever feel the time slip by?
