This was it. The moment I had dreaded for two weeks. The moment when I would leave all I’ve ever known behind. Not only my precious childhood, but my best friend. Rae and I have known each other forever, seriously. Besides our families, we were the first people we saw. Anyways, let me go back and I’ll explain. It started two weeks ago, when my parents called me into the living room for a ‘chat’.
I made my way down the soft, carpeted stairs towards the living room, to see what all the commotion was about.
“Jace,” called my mom softly, as I sat down. “We’re moving.”
“What?” I exclaimed. I looked at my mom, then at my dad.
“I got a job offer in Toronto. The pay is three times better than it is here.”
“When are we leaving?” I asked as I choked back tears.
“In two weeks.”
I nodded and raced back to the comfort of my own room.
All through the week I tried my hardest to avoid Rae, which was hard, considering we had 3/5 classes together. But after 4 days, she had had enough and confronted me at lunch.
“Jace, what’s going on? You’re all gloomy and depressed. You were fine a couple days ago.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” I pushed my way past her, but before I could go any farther, she caught my arm.
“Fine I’ll leave you alone until you do want to talk about it.” She let go of my arm and walked towards our next class.
As soon as I sat down, the bell rang. When the teacher turned around to right the instructions on the board, I quickly took out a piece of paper and wrote a note.
Rae,
Meet me at the park at 3.
Jace.
After school, I raced to the park, across from my house. Seating myself on a swing, I waited.
Soon, Rae appeared and sat down on the swing beside me.
“So?” asked Rae.
“Umm. Well,” I sighed and look at her. “I’m moving.”
“Alright! To that huge house down the street? You could have like – ”
“No Rae, to Toronto. My dad got a job there. I found out Sunday night. We’re moving in two weeks.”
“Oh,” Rae mumbled. “I can see why you were avoiding me.”
“I am really sorry. I just don’t want to leave you and everything.”
“It’s not like we won’t see each other again. We can still use MSN with web cam, and the phone. Just remember, everything happens for a reason.”
“I guess.” I sighed.
“Come on,” said Rae, standing up. “I’ll help you pack.”
So for the next couple of days, Rae came over after school to help me pack. Soon the final days with Rae were over. This was it. The moment I had dreaded for two weeks. The moment when I would leave all I’ve ever known behind. Not only my precious childhood but my best friend.
As my house grew farther and farther away, I sat in the back of my parents car, remembering mine and Rae’s tearful good-bye. As it grew later in the day, I looked ahead and thought about the positives of moving. There weren’t very many, but as soon as my family was settled in, I would be in contact with Rae.
After awhile I felt drowsy, and fell asleep with 5 words flowing through my mind.
Everything happens for a reason.
Dread story.
A school project. We had to make a 'dread' story. Here's mine.Did you like this story? Make one of your own!
