"Joe?" I groaned as I pulled my eyes open. I all too quickly noticed the light shining in through the window, but was too tired to respond to it quickly.
"We gotta get up Lils, they're gonna wake up soon." Joe explained as he started to get up, forcing me to get up off of him too.
"What time is it?" I mumbled as my feet found the floor, and I picked myself up off the couch.
"I don't know, early." He replied, sitting up.
"Psh, I figured." I muttered, rolling my tired eyes.
"Come on, let's get you home." Joe said, standing up and moving behind me, placing his hands on my shoulders and beginning to guide me out of the room.
Except as we turned the corner, I came to a quick stop to avoid the something I was about to run into.
Or, let me rephrase that: someone.
I looked up to meet Kevin's face, and he looked down at me with a quizzical expression, then at his brother, then back to me.
"Lily, what are you doing here so early?" Kevin asked, surprised.
"Uhh..." What did I say to that? My mind was going crazy, searching every last bit to find some half decent excuse to why I was here so early, still in my pajamas and looking like I had just woken up.
I don't really think I want to let him know I've been here all night, asleep with his brother even if it is a million times more innocent than it sounds.
"They're out of cereal at her place, she came for food." Joe answered casually behind me and I bit on my bottom lip hard so I wouldn't laugh at Joe's horrible attempt at a save. Please, like Kevin would ever buy that.
"Oh, ok. Well, uh, good morning." Kevin greeted slightly awkwardly as if he wasn't totally convinced, but he seemed to let it slide.
"Good Morning." I returned as energetic as I could manage as Kevin moved passed us and continued down the hallway. When he turned the corner, I began to run to the back door to avoid being caught by anybody else, and Joe followed.
"Dude, out of cereal? That's the lamest excuse I've ever heard." I complained, spinning around to face him as I reached the door, smacking him in the arm.
"What? At least I said something! Your "Uhhh's" weren't exactly helping either." He defended.
I laughed and rolled my eyes at him, turning back around and pulling the door open.
"Whatever Moron, I'm going home." I replied as I stepped outside.
"Moron? Ouch Lily, that hurts. That hurts me right here." Joe explained as he pointed to his heart, sticking his bottom lip out, pouting.
"Aww, you want me to kiss it better?" I joked, turning back around.
"Hmmn, and I thought you'd want your first kiss to be a little more special than that." He shot back sarcastically with a killer smirk, and I faked shock.
"Oh, you wanna play it that way, do you?" I asked with a raised eyebrow, placing a hand on my hip for dramatic effect.
"Maybe I do." He smiled and awaited my response. I would have loved to continue our little chat, but I caught sight of Nick walking past the room where Joe and I stood and remembered how sneaky we were completely failing at being. This whole plan was never exactly bullet proof in the first place, but it was so much harder to not be seen when people were walking around, awake.
Nick, thankfully, continued past without turning to see us so I was saved from the trouble of having to create another stupid excuse about what I was doing here at god knows what time in the morning.
I grabbed Joe's hand and yanked him outside with me, before shutting the door behind him as quietly as I could so we could say our goodbyes without having to worry half as much.
"What?" Joe simply asked, confused. It'd be adorable at how stupid he was if it wasn't so annoying.
No, I'm wrong. It's still adorable.
Yet, I think he's secretly a lot smarter than I give him credit for...
If that makes any sense at all.
"Did you forget about the part where I'm not supposed to get seen?" I questioned back, folding my arms across my chest.
"So what? Kevin already saw you." He shrugged.
"Nick didn't! You want to explain my lack of breakfast foods to him too? God, you're making it sound like my mom's starving me." I rolled my eyes, and then something clicked.
Oh shit! My mom! What if she figured out I was gone? What if she already called the cops and there's a search party out for me?
...Can you even get that done in such a short amount of time?
Whatever, missing the point again, Lily.
"I've really gotta go before my mom realizes I'm not there." I told him, already turning to hurry across the yard and back into my own house, but I felt Joe grab my hand to stop me. I turned back to look at him.
"Am I gonna see you later?" He asked calmly, and the look in his eyes made me stop and think back to his question because I couldn't bring myself to process it the first time.
"Umm... yeah, sure." I replied quietly with a short nod, feeling shy all over again.
Those stupid, simple questions are completely killing me.
"Ok, I'll call you tonight then." He released my hand, although I don't think I really wanted him to and he gave me a quick, small smile before turning and reaching for the back door. I stood still and watched, forgetting that I was in a hurry in the first place and I watched him slide back inside and close the door.
In a matter of seconds I went from joking around carelessly to completely speechless with a simple change of tone.
Is normal that the person that can so easily take your breath away and make you insanely nervous is the same person who can make you completely comfortable about being yourself around them?
I'm always asking myself things like that. Is this normal? Is that normal?
I doubt I'll ever know, because with the life I've been living, I don't think I have the best grasp on being a normal teenage girl.
Remembering, once again, that I had to be home around a few hours ago, I took off across the back yard.
I made it back into the house just as I would have on any night: without being caught. I went upstairs and slowly opened my mom's door, peeking inside.
Thank god, she was still sleeping.
I shut the door, and entered my room, deciding on a few more hours of sleep before I officially woke up and welcomed the day. And fortunately, unlike most times, sleep came easily.
But still, I couldn't wait for later.
the way she moves away, oh.
I am really excited for everybody to find out what happens next, it is pretty mind blowing. That should be out soon, don't worry to much! Message? It makes me happy.
