Midnight
A Jacob Black Story
I pulled an all nighter again. My parents had kicked me out of the room shortly after they got home. Half of my night was spent thinking over how Jacob had imprinted with an awkward girl like me, a portion was spent say good luck and good bye to Alice when she went out on another run with Embry, Quil and Jacob. I couldn't even face them but gave my good byes and what not through the window without making eye contact. The rest of the night was spent watching reruns of 'I Love Lucy' that I managed to find on a late night television program. After a while of that, I changed it to Nick just in time to watch Spongebob.
I was sitting on the edge of my bed, swaying from side to side and kicking my legs childishly. My eyes were glued to the screen across from me. "F is for friends who do stuff together, U is for you and me~!" I sang, falling over onto my side while throwing my arms and legs up. I laughed to myself and rolled over onto my back. I stared at the ceiling until Plankton's part came on. I grinned and lifted my arms, swaying them from side to side over my head. "F is for fire that burns down the whole town! U is for uranium bombs! N is for no survivors, when you'r-"
"I can't believe that you told her!!"
"She had to find out sometime..."
"I was going to be the one to tell her that! Not you!"
"She's my sister, she has every right to know that kind of stuff."
"But it doesn't need to come from you!"
"Jacob calm down, I'm sure Lydia thought it was all a dream anyway."
"She's not an idiot, Embry!" I sat up, rolling over to land on my feet. I moved to the window slowly, moving the curtains to look outside. Jacob and Alice were arguing with each other as they walked from the forest. Quil and Embry were behind them, silently keeping score. I noticed that the two made a silent bet with each other before Alice whirled around and slapped both of them upside the head. I laughed lightly. Even though the laughter was quiet to my ears, I noticed Jacob slid his eyes to me. He turned his head slightly, smiling. I felt a light blush highlight my cheeks as a shy smile pulled up my lips. The bright light that was lighting up the clouds glinted off my braces. I gave a small wave, nothing more than just a twitch of the fingers. Jacob lit up. Embry and Quil looked up before looking back to Jacob. Embry hit him in the shoulder before the two tackled him to the ground.
"She's not a painting! Ask her out again!" Quil shouted. The three rolled along the ground before Jake finally broke free from them. He sent them a glare. He then pounced back into the wrestling match. Embry managed to get away for a moment.
"Yeah, we don't need your kiss scene running through all of our minds! Quil is bad enough!" Embry shouted. Jacob growled lowly and grabbed Embry into a headlock, bringing him down to the ground. I smiled, shaking my head, as Alice watched in amusement. Quil stood up and dusted off his cut offs before turning to Alice.
"That male bloodsucker is mine if Jacob wins," Quil said. Alice glared at him.
"Hell no! We all know Jacob is stronger than Embry, that's an unfair bet!" Alice exclaimed. I laughed again, causing Jacob to pause. Embry shouted in victory as he brought the former down to the ground. Alice grinned and quickly grabbed Quil's hand, shaking it. "That male bloodsucker is mine," she said. Quil cursed. I smiled. The thought of imprinting was far from my mind now.
I turned away from the window as my phone started to sing. Welcome To The Lower Birth The Greatest Show Unearthed We Appear Without A Sound. I quickly moved to grab it and pressed the talk button.
"Hello?" I asked.
"I knew you would pick up! It's about time," Lacey said. I arched an eyebrow and turned back towards the window.
"Lacey? Why are you using Kevin's phone?" I asked.
"That's what I would like to know!?" Kevin shouted. Apparently, I was on speaker phone. Lacey ran a few steps away from Kevin's voice.
"My phone was stolen!"
"Liar!" Ryan shouted in the background. Lacey ran a few more steps before a door opened and closed. She started to walk.
"No, my phone really was stolen. The three of us were downstairs this morning eating breakfast and when we came back up, the window was open and my entire purse was gone, phone and all," Lacey explained. I turned towards the door at the sound of breakfast. My stomach let out a low whine and I picked up my pace and threw open my door. Lacey let out a hum of question. "I think whoever broke in was a pothead or something because the entire place smelled like candy," Lacey explained. I paused on the stairs. A vampire broke into Lacey's hotel room? Why? My mind started to race for an answer. I stuttered slightly.
"L-lacey? I need to go, alright?" I said. Lacey pouted.
"Alright... but hey! How did you're date go last night?" Lacey asked. I blushed multiple shades of red before I hung up the phone. I shoved it into my pocket and skipped down the stairs. Imprinting suddenly came back once I was on the first floor. My face turned red again. The front door opened and I quickly ducked into the kitchen. I could hear multiple voices float in through the door.
"So, you think those bloodsuckers are going to come back onto the rez any time soon?" Embry asked. I looked towards them before opening the fridge and pulling out a water bottle. I set it on the counter before looking for any leftover food. I took a deep breath, trying to push that whole imprinting thing from my mind.
"They better not. But I think one of those female bloodsuckers has a thing for Quil here," Jacob teased. Alice and Embry laughed. I looked up, hitting my head on the inside of the fridge.
"Ouch," I hissed. Jacob stopped.
"You okay?" he asked. I pulled my head out of the fridge.
"Yeah, nothing but a stupid human error. I could've sworn my head was out of the fridge when I looked up," I said, mumbling the last part to myself. I glared at Alice when she snorted. I ducked back into the fridge to grab everything I needed for gourmet hash browns. I closed the fridge once everything was nearly piled in my arms and set them on the counter. Jacob quickly grabbed a potato that took a nose dive off the counter. Embry grinned.
"You cookin' for all of us?" he asked. I quickly shook my head. I turned around when Embry let out a whine of protest.
"Why not?" Quil asked. I gave him a dull look.
"Alice and Jake combined are going to eat most of the food," I stated calmly. My statement got multiple responses.
Jake grinned from next to me, moving to hug me from behind. He was met with a glare from Alice that stopped him in his place. Alice then gave me a wounded look that matched Quil's. Embry was glaring at Jacob.
"Yeah, feed the boyfriend," Embry grumbled. Jacob laughed. Alice spoke under Jacob's laughter.
"Are you saying I'm fat?" she asked pathetically. My eyes went wide as they swiveled towards my sister. Her lip was quivering and she looked like she would cry. I waved my hands in front of me as she sniffed.
"A-alice! I didn't mean it like that! Don't cry, please!" I said, my voice growing in pitch with each word. Quil started to laugh at the chaos that was going on in the kitchen. Alice grinned quickly, breaking the chaos around me. She quickly grabbed Embry and Quil and led them outside.
"Sorry! You guys don't get anything!" she exclaimed. Their protests disappeared when Alice shut the door. I sighed to myself and leaned halfway against the fridge and halfway against the counter. Jake looked down at me. He pulled on my shoulders and slid his hands down my back until he held me in a hug.
"Morning," he said lowly. I laughed slightly, closing my eyes and praying that we could stay like that for as long as possible. I slid my arms around his waist and locked my fingers tighter behind his back as if to show him what I wanted. He only held me tighter.
"Hey! I don't want a repeat of yesterday!!" Alice exclaimed. I sighed quietly as Jake released me. I stuck my tongue out at Alice, earning a similar look back. She then disappeared into the living room as I turned to work on breakfast. I pulled two knives out and set one to the side. I started to cut vegetables slowly, not wanting to get too distracted. Though, of course, without paying attention my hand bumped into the knife that was sitting on the edge of the counter. It slid off. Jacob quickly reached around my leg and grabbed the blade of it. I jumped back, running into him. He steadied me with his arm as he placed the knife on the edge of the sink. The edge was covered in bright red blood. I whirled around to face him as he held his hand over the sink.
"You're hurt," I pointed out. I moved around him to grab a towel or something to stop the bleeding but he grabbed my arm. I turned around to face him again. He was grinning.
"Werewolf," Jake said easily. He turned his hand and uncurled his fingers to show his palm. The cut had disappeared. His grin grew at my amazed look. "Remember?" he asked. I grabbed his hand and traced over where I knew the cut should have been.
"There's not even a scar," I murmured. His fingers wrapped around my hand. He pulled me towards him again, leaning his face towards mine. My eyes started to flutter close.
"If you two are finished, I'm sure that someone people in this house would like breakfast!" Alice called. I laughed as Jacob moved away slightly. He leaned forward again.
"Later, I guess," he whispered. I nodded slowly as his lips brushed mine. He then moved around me and disappeared out the door to join Quil and Embry outside. I sighed and leaned back against the counter. My mind was debating over if I could get used to this or not. Of course, there was that little fact of losing my breath when he was close. I shook my head and turned around to finish off breakfast. I was sure countless amounts of wasted oxygen was enough to get used to having Jake around.

Quil and Embry came back inside as soon as the food was nearly gone. Jacob was sitting at the table next to me. Soon, it seemed that the entire pack was inside the house when Jared came bounding through the door with Seth, Collin and Brady hot on his heels. Paul ran in last and the four nearly collapsed onto the floor. Alice turned around to face them with the same questioning look I had.
"Why are you guys here?" Alice asked. I nodded in agreement with her question as I started to sway from side to side. It was getting really hot in the kitchen with so many werewolves. Jacob seemed to notice my discomfort for he grabbed the nearly frozen can of soda in front of him and handed it to me. I gave him a small smile and took a quick drink. Jared managed to worm his way out of the pile and looked at everyone.
"I was thinking that we should all do something today," Jared said. Seth jumped up, cutting Jared off.
"Yeah! Like-"
"Shut up I was going to say it!" Jared shouted. The two started to argue. Jacob sighed as Embry plopped into an empty chair. Quil followed suit, sitting on the edge of the table. Jacob then grabbed the closet fancy napkin holder mom had bought and threw it at the two. Alice ducked to avoid it as it nearly hit Jared in the face. Alice whirled around.
"Hey! Don't throw things in the house!" Alice shouted as the napkin holder was thrown back at Jacob. He grabbed it before it hit his face. Alice growled lowly and twisted back around to face Jared. He pointed to Seth, who was backing towards the door slowly. Alice launched herself from the chair, jumping over the boys on the floor, and followed Seth outside. Jared moved to take Alice's chair but Quil had already lowered himself into it with a grin. I took another drink of the soda in my hands before folding my arms and placing my head on the table. I yawned. I watched as Jacob quickly threw the holder in his hand at Jared again. It hit the boy square between the eyes as he was distracted by glaring at Quil. Jared snapped his glare to Jacob.
"What were you saying?" Jacob asked in amusement. Jared quickly clapped his hands together, forgetting about the napkin holder on the ground.
"I was thinking that all of us, Kim and Lydia included-"
"I would hope I was included since you're nearly burning down my house," I grumbled. Jacob looked at me in concern as I rubbed my forehead against my arm to free it of sweat. Jared grinned sheepishly.
"Yeah, you would be included. But I was thinking that we could all go cliff diving!" Jared exclaimed. I snapped my head up quickly.
"What?" I asked sharply. Jacob grinned.
"That's right, Lydia hasn't seen us cliff diving yet, has she?" he asked. I looked towards him just as quickly as I had looked up, earning a sharp pain in my neck. I rubbed it as I sat up fully.
"What do you mean cliff diving?" I asked. Embry turned to me energetically, slapping the table.
"Cliff diving is where we just... its self explanatory!" Embry exclaimed. I gave him a level look.
"You're all crazy," I mumbled. Jacob grinned again. He looked at the werewolves that were suffocating me with their heat.
"You guys should go on ahead with Alice and Seth. We'll meet you there," Jake said. Alice appeared in the doorframe.
"I'm not leaving you two alone," she snapped. Jake grinned sheepishly, flinching as if to avoid a blow.
"Right... right," he said quietly. I smiled. Everyone, save for Alice and Jake, quickly left. I sighed in relief once the cool air surrounded me. I stood up and picked up my plate, putting it in the sink quickly. I then turned around to face Alice.
"I'll go take a quick shower and be down in a minute, alright?" I said through a yawn. Alice nodded. I slid past her and up the stairs to my room. I quickly went to pick out something to wear before pausing and pulling my swimsuit out first. It was a black two piece. The top was a halter like top with the word 'O'neil' in white on the right side. The bottom was a pair of short black and white board shorts. I slung them both over my shoulder before grabbing a light blue sweatshirt and a pair of dark jeans. I also grabbed a hat from the top of my closet. I turned around and quickly walked into the bathroom for a shower.
I ran a brush through my wet hair once I was out of the shower. A towel was the only thing I had on, which allowed me to check my knees. They didn't look as horrible as they had on Friday. I poked them slightly, which earned a hiss of pain. I turned to look at the door when someone knocked on it. I reached over and unlocked it before reaching for the bathing suit bottoms. I pulled them on under the towel as the door open. Alice stood there with a questioning look.
"You're taking forever, you okay?" she asked. I nodded. I grabbed the top and gave Alice my back so that I could untie it and but it on. I held the straps behind my neck.
"Could you tie it for me?" I asked quietly. Alice nodded as she reached over and started to tie it for me. She smiled at my reflection in the mirror. I looked at her in question. "What is it?" I asked. She shook her head.
"Nothing..." she trailed off and started to walk out of the bathroom. She then paused and turned around to lean against the door frame. I pulled on the jeans and brushed through my hair again before pulling on the sweatshirt. "You know what?" she started. I looked towards her from the corner of my eyes.
"What?" I asked with the same quiet tone she spoke with. Alice smiled.
"Jacob wouldn't be a bad addition to the family if he manages to make you this happy," she said. I felt my face turn a light pink color as her smile grew. She pushed away from the door frame. "Just don't go making out in our parent's bedroom again," Alice said. She then turned around and walked down stairs. I smiled and pulled my hair out from underneath the sweatshirt. I then brushed through my hair and grabbed the hat before hurrying over to my room and grabbing a pair of black flip flops. Once I exited the room, Alice pushed me back in quickly. I blinked at her, wondering how she came back up stairs without me hearing her. She pulled the sweatshirt off. "It's pretty warm outside, you don't need that," she said with a smirk. She then pulled me out of the room and downstairs.

The entire pack was at the cliff, jumping off and cheering each other on or making bets on who will do what. Near the cliff was Alice's jeep, top down and the radio playing a random station. I was lounging in the back seat, feeling like watching Pearl Harbor all of a sudden. I stared up at the passing fluffy white clouds through a pair of Alice's sunglasses while I tapped my bare feet to the beat of Skye Sweetnam's 'Billy S.'. I smiled at the passing wind tickled my bare feet that hung out over the side and brought the earthy scent of the werewolves to me. I sighed to myself and closed my eyes.
"Why is she so important?" My brow furrowed as the wind continued to blow towards me.
"Not sure. I mean, could it be that she belongs to one of those mutts?" I barely opened my eyes to look up at the cloud filled sky.
"Naw, that couldn't be it," the first voice said. There was a slightly Brooklyn accent to this lightly high pitched voice. The second voice snorted.
"Better not be...I still don't see why Zeke is so into her," the second voice said. It was barely noticeable, but there was a slight accent, Puerto Rican or something like that.
"You're just jealous because Zeke thinks this girl might be a singer," said the first voice.
"Shut up Audrey!"
"You shut up, Emily or you're going to attract those mutts!" the first voice said. I quickly opened my eyes when a candy scent floated around my head. I sat up and looked towards the back of the jeep. Right behind it, actually leaning casually against it, were two pale, red eyed girls. Specifically, the two girls that have been with the red eyed boy from under my window. The girl in the Japanese school uniform looked down at me slowly before a laidback grin appeared on her lips. "'Bout time, sleeping beauty," the girl said, her Brooklyn accent highlighting the first and last words of her sentence. The second girl, Emily I figured, turned from looking at the werewolves that lined the edge of the cliff. She smirked.
"Hiya, supposed singer, meet your new room mates," she said. My eyes went wide as she twisted around and covered my mouth. Audrey lifted me effortlessly from the back of the jeep. I quickly regretted not getting any sleep for the combination of exhaustion and the candy scent pulled the darkness from around the edges of my eyes to the center. Before I was completely pulled under, I felt the wind pull the smell of the werewolves towards me and push the candy scent away from them.
I actually think that Audrey and Emily are my favorite vampires... besides the Cullen family!! ^-^;; I figured that the vampires that have been appearing randomly throughout the story should finally make their dramatic entrance. And they have!! ^-^ How fast to you think Jacob is going to react to this?? ^-^
