I fell against a tree just outside Tazuna's house. The sun had already set, and I knew Kakashi had already gotten back by now since it was almost mid-day since I left.
It's easy to say that I had got lost... Damn lack of direction...
"There you are," Someone said to my right. I jumped and started to scream until a hand clamped over my mouth. "It's only me Aira," Kakashi whispered. I sighed, falling back against him as he leaned on a tree.
"For Kami's sake Kakashi... Give me a break with this scaring crap... You nearly killed me just then," I snapped, letting my head rest against his shoulder.
"Sorry. When you didn't come back I went looking for you. I was starting to get worried until I finally found your chakra trail that led me here."
"My chakra trail?"
"Long story about the Sharingan," Kakashi said, brushing me off.
"Ah. So how are Naruto and Sasuke doing? Naruto seemed to be doing better after I left, but I couldn't find the way back to them," I said, not noticing Kakashi wrapping his arms around my waist.
"They were doing fine. I sent Sakura with Tazuna-san to protect him while he worked on the bridge. Are you hungry? I think supper is done," Kakashi said, sniffing the air.
"Not really... I can't really find an appetite when I know Zabuza and Gatoh are still alive..." I muttered, and shivered. "God... I'd never been so scared before, I know that much. Even if I can't remember my past I know I've never been that scared before..." I said with a sigh. Kakashi smiled kindly, even if I can't see it.
"Aira? Kakashi?" We heard. It was only then did I realize our predicament. I jumped away from Kakashi, looking up at him with innocent eyes before running off towards the house. "Aira! There you are!" Kakashi heard Tsunami say. He sighed, looking at the ground for a moment. He grabbed his crutches and started to walk back to the house. "Where's Kakashi?" Tsunami asked.
"I'm right here," He said. I looked up at Tsunami.
"Something smells wonderful Tsunami-san!" I said, trying to keep from looking at Kakashi. She smiled sweetly and lead Kakashi and I back into the house. I slipped my shoes off at the landing before following the smell to the kitchen, just in time to see Naruto and Sasuke get sick.
"I... I don't think I'm hungry anymore..." I muttered, blue lines covering my eyes. Kakashi sighed.
"Eat something Aira; otherwise I'll force it down your throat. You need to keep your strength up," Kakashi said. I glared at him.
"You aren't my mother Kakashi! I'm not even hungry!" I snapped. Kakashi stared at me dumbfounded that I yelled at him. "E- Excuse me..." I muttered, running out. I ran outside and sat on the deck, leaning against the railing and looking out at the ocean. Why? Why does he make me feel like this? One moment, I'm perfectly happy with him being there, and the next I feel as though I have to defend myself... I... I don't understand... I thought. I stood, sighing and leaned against the house, watching the waves lap at the beach silently.
When footsteps approached I already knew who it was and didn't look up.
"I'm sorry if I offended you," Kakashi said, leaning on the wall next to me.
"There's no need for you to apologize Kakashi... That should be my job. I snapped at you for no reason, and for that I'm sorry... I've just been on edge ever since Zabuza tried to kill..." I trailed off.
"Tried to kill who, Aira?" Kakashi asked.
"S- Sasuke," I lied. Well it was partly true... "I had another memory come back to me... About a boy that I called my brother. He... He was killed by someone wearing a strange mask," I said. He nodded, letting me know he's listening. I sighed sadly and slid down the wall. "The boy... When I was running at Zabuza and Sasuke I saw the boy clearly. He had deep black hair, and when he opened his eyes they were a deep brown color... The worst part... Was that he said, 'I'm sorry... Onne-san... I... I couldn't protect you and mom... Now look at you... You're nearly dead and mom...'" I brought my hand to my mouth and choke back tears trying to force themselves out. "Kakashi I had a brother out there somewhere, and he died in my arms... I... I couldn't do anything for him! He just... He just died in my arms and I couldn't help him... I'm so helpless Kakashi... I... I can't do anything right!" I pulled my knees to my chest and cried, rocking myself back and forth. Kakashi sighed and sat down next to me, pulling me to him. He wrapped his arms firmly around my waist, but not so tight that I couldn't breathe. My head fell onto his chest and he opened his legs up enough so I can sit down comfortably.
"Aira you are far from worthless, helpless, and you saved my life, and Sasuke's, from Zabuza without thinking of your own. That's hardly what I would call 'Not being able to do anything right.'" Kakashi said. I looked up at him, tears streaming down my face.
"But my-"
"Aira I know, but he's dead," Kakashi said, picking his words carefully. "Sasuke isn't, and I can tell that after that fight you grew closer to him, and he you." Kakashi pulled me to him, my breath catching in my throat.
He smells nice... I thought blushing. I buried my face in his neck, the cool cloth that surrounded his face felt soothing on my skin. "Kakashi..." I said, hiccupping. I leaned back and smiled weakly. "A- Arigato, Kakashi-kun. That really helped," I said. I lean in and kiss where his lips would be underneath the cloth. I leaned back, avoiding my gaze with him and my face flushed. I tried to get up but he grabbed hold of my wrist. I looked at him and he slipped the cloth off gently and leaned forward slowly. I slowly slip my eyes closed, but as soon as our lips start to touch footsteps storm on the deck. I jumped away from him and he pulled his mask back on. I jump up on the railing and sit down, pretending to look up at the stars.
"Oh Aira-chan! There you are!" Sakura said smiling. She rushed over to me and tugged on my arm. "Come on! You need to eat! You too, Kakashi-sensei!" Sakura ordered. She dragged the two of us back into the house and I looked up at Kakashi, who seemed to be having a hard time moving so quickly.
"Hey Sakura you can let us go. We will come and eat," I said. She laughed nervously and dropped mine and Kakashi's wrists. Kakashi and I follow her at a slower pace, letting him actually walk instead of literally being dragged. I sighed, thinking back to the moment Sakura interrupted between me and Kakashi.
Did we really... Kiss? I asked myself.
"Aira, Sensei! There you are!" Tsunami said.
"Sorry if I worried you, Tsunami-san," I said, bowing.
"It's fine Aira! Please, sit down! I'll get you some food!" She said happily. I nodded and sit across from Kakashi, my hands folded on my lap. Tsunami laid down a bowl of food for me and the smell wafted up, making my smile.
"Oh it smells so good!" I said. I picked it up and begin eating, slowly at first, then faster as my stomach decides that it is hungry. Kakashi chuckled and I glared at him from over the top of my bowl but said nothing.
After we finish eating Sakura, Tsunami, and I all walked upstairs to Tsunami's room. I laid down on the make-shift bed and turn with my back facing Tsunami and Sakura as they sleep peacefully. As I drifted off to sleep myself, one thing stays in my head.
He's so... Handsome without his mask on...
Sakura gently shook me awake.
"Breakfast is done Aira-chan..." Sakura said sleepily. I sat up slowly, blinking in the pale morning light.
"Hang on a moment and I'll walk down with you Sakura..." I groaned and pulled myself into a sitting position. I walked over to my bag and pull out a burgundy shirt and black pants that are easy to move in and got changed. Before I could my shirt on I heard Sakura gasp. "I see you noticed my back, Sakura," I said sadly.
"W- What happened?!" Sakura asked. I heard her step over and she ran a finger down one of the scars. I slipped my shirt the rest of the way on and turned to face her, pulling my hair out of the neck of the shirt.
"Zabuza happened. That was from when he tortured me. Well, he didn't do it himself. Some people working under him, I suppose, did it. They told me, 'Be thankful it isn't Zabuza, otherwise you would be screaming for mercy by now.' And then they would laugh at me..." I sighed. "But never once did I scream. I refused to show them I was weak," I said, brushing my long hair.
"Aira thats... You're amazing!" Sakura said. I smiled slightly, and stopped brushing my hair for a moment.
"No more than you, Sakura. Now come on! Breakfast is waiting!" I said, trying to sound happy. Sakura smiled and nodded and we walked downstairs to get something to eat.
"Morning everyone!" I said.
"You're in an unusually good mood," Sasuke said. I smiled at him.
"Well after eating and getting a good nights sleep I feel great. So there's no reason to be all moody!" I said, poking his forehead. He smacked my hand away and rolled his eyes. I grinned and looked at Kakashi who was staring at me with an eyebrow cocked. I give him a toothy grin before I started to eat.
"Naruto never came back last night?" Tazuna asked. My ears pricked up.
"No he's been out in the forest all night. Who knows, maybe he used up all his chakra and died by now," Sakura said.
"I doubt it. Naruto is too stubborn to die," I said.
"I just hope Naruto-kun's alright," Tsunami said worriedly, glancing at the door as if he would just bust inside at any moment.
"Don't worry. Naruto may not look it, he is a true ninja," Kakashi said.
"I don't know. It wouldn't surprise me if that moron was dead," Sasuke said.
"Jeez. First Sakura, now you Sasuke? What is it with the 'Kill Naruto' thing here lately huh?" I snapped. Sasuke ignored me and stood up, walking towards the door.
"Sasuke-kun?" Sakura asked.
"Going for a walk," Sasuke said.
"But we're going to eat-"
"He already ate Sakura," I said, pointing at his plate with my chopsticks. Her eye twitched.
"That was quick," She said. I swallowed the last of my food and stood.
"Thanks for the food Tsunami-san, but I think I'm going to go look for our blonde haired ninja," I said, smiling at her.
"Aira you'll get lost," Kakashi said, but I don't pay any heed. I walked out the door with a wave of my hand and tracked down Sasuke.
"Why are you here?" He snapped.
"Because I know your going to look for Naruto and I decided to come with you," I said, folding my hands behind my back. I stretched out and Sasuke stared at me from the corner of his eye.
"You're unusually hyper..." He said, raising an eyebrow. I smiled.
"And youre normally moody, but we don't say anything about that now do we?" I asked. He humphs but said nothing. After awhile of silence I spoke up. "Hey Nii-san..." I muttered and he glanced up at me. "Why are you like this all the time? You hardly ever talk and youre always trying to prove yourself... What happened to make you like this?" I asked. He looked away and doesn't answer. "Bad question right? Ok then... Well, if you ever need to talk" I trailed off when someone walked by. When she passed us I stopped and turn back, and I realize that was actually a boy. He seems familiar somehow... I thought.
"Aira-chan!" Naruto yelled happily. I looked up and wave to him before casting a glance at Sasuke.
He noticed too... I thought as I walked to Naruto.
"What do you think you're doing out here all night! You had me worried nii-san!" I snapped, smacking the back of Narutos head.
"Gah! I've been training! I want to be stronger!"
"Yeah well Mr. Muscles, you missed breakfast," I said. Naruto only laughed and Sasuke stared down at him in disgust. I sighed. "Well since we're here you two may as well train. I'll wait down here in case Kakashi and Sakura come looking for us..." I muttered, sitting underneath a tree.
A couple of hours later Sakura and Kakashi show up.
"Naruto? Aira-chan?" Sakura yelled.
"Yo," I said, raising my hand. Sakura jumped and spun around. "I was having a nice nap..." I yawned deeply and stood up. I walked over to Kakashi just as a kunai flies down from the tree.
"Naruto?" Sakura yelled.
"Hey good job Naruto! The last time I looked you were only half that far!" I said.
"If you stayed awake you would have seen me!" Naruto said, jumping to his feet Then he slipped off. Mine and Kakashi's eyes widen and Sakura screamed, but Naruto laughed.
"Naruto! You scared me!" Sakura screamed at the blonde haired boy who was hanging upside down in the tree.
"Naruto you may want to climb back up before-" I started, but by then his feet had slipped off. He started to scream and without thinking I'm up the tree in a flash and holding onto his leg along with Sasuke. "Oh, hi nii-san! I was wondering where you went," I said, grinning.
"Naruto, baka..." Sasuke said, glaring down at him, and ignoring Sakura's praising.
"Naruto stop moving so much! You're going to cause all of us to fall, baka!" I snapped. He stopped moving instantly and I let out a sigh. Sasuke and I threw him up on the branch and I lazily jumped back down. "Baka nii-san giving me a heart attack..." I muttered under my breath. I yawned again and walked over to Kakashi, using him as my pillow. "Bed time..." I muttered.
"She's lazier than Kakashi-sensei..." Sakura muttered to herself. Kakashi rolled his eyes and woke me up before leaving for Tazuna's home with Sakura right behind us.
"Aira-chan, why didn't you come tell us Sasuke and Naruto were training?" Sakura asked.
"I dunno. I guess the tree was comfier than I thought," I said, shrugging my shoulders. Her eye twitched.
Just as lazy as Kakashi-sensei... She thought. I yawned deeply.
"I wonder... Hey, Sakura!" I said, calling her back to the landing. She stopped and turned back to me. "You were in town yesterday with Tazuna-san, right?" She nodded. "You didn't happen to see any medicine there did you?" Sakura's eyes saddened.
"There wasn't even much food, Aira-chan. I don't think there would have been any medicine at all," Sakura said. I sighed.
"Ok. Thanks, Sakura," I said. She nodded and walked off while I slipped off my shoes and walked the main room and plopped down on the couch. "This is going to be a boring day..." I yawned. I curled up on the couch and fall asleep quickly.
