Amber hummed as she walked along the pavement towards the soccer practice field. Her flip flops clacked on the warm concrete and her blonde locks where tied up in a messy ponytail. She gazed down at her phone as she walked, her fingers responding quickly to every text message she received from him. Ever since she had gone with Nick and his family to the movies on Saturday she hadn't really stopped texting him. It was the most fun she had had in a very long time.

so how was your day today?

Amber smiled at Nick's thoughtfulness. He always seemed to be the only one to ask about her day, and he really cared when he asked.
Good, I hate Mondays though

The message sent as Amber walked off of the pavement and onto the soft green grass. Her voice still humming the random tune that she made up in her head.
The chatter and days gossip caught Amber's ear as she made her way towards her team. She didn't tune in long enough to catch what they happened to be talking about this afternoon. As Amber slipped her flip flops off and set her bag down her phone vibrated in her hand.
well today Joe broke
a picture frame :)

Amber sat down on the grass, pulling her soccer cleets out of her bag, along with her shin gaurds and green knee high socks.
well I guess that makes
my day better...I guess

The chattering and gossip slowly died down. Soon Amber's hum was the only thing heard. She abruptly stopped humming and lifted her head to see all the girls on her team looking in one general direction. Amber stuffed her phone in her bag and quickly finished putting her cleets on as Coach Braxton made his way towards the team. The look on his face was indescribable, Amber could not tell if he was mad or deep in thought, or what he was.
"Is Amber even here?"
The whisper that escaped from Lexi's mouth drifted swiftly to Amber's ears.
"I'm here, why?" Amber asked, her eyes scanning the team for Lexi.
Lexi turned her head to look at the blonde.
"Why weren't you here on Saturday?" Lexi hissed.
"I had other plans." Amber said as her phone vibrated in her bag, a loud noise enveloping the surrounding area.
Amber quickly grabbed her phone and stopped the buzzing. She turned it off and threw it back in her bag as Coach walked up.
"Amber Montecrew I need to talk to you."
A lump formed in Amber's throat at Coach Braxton's voice. He did not come up and say 'hi' or any form of greeting, he got straight to the point.
Amber stood up and walked over to Coach, his stern eyes following her until she stood next to him. He placed his hand gently on her shoulder as he led her away from the team. Soon the chatter and gossip resumed as Amber walked along side the Coach.
"I want to know why you weren't here on Saturday?" Coach Braxton asked as he stopped walking and turned to face Amber.
"I had other plans." Amber said, the lump still in her throat.
"Other plans? You do know that it was a mandatory practice correct?"
Amber shook her head yes. It was no point lying to him since Amber knew the undeniable truth that he would find out later about her lie.
"Amber, just because you may think that you are valuable part of this team does not mean you can pick and chose which practices to actually show up!"
"No, I don't think that it's just-""You're suspended from the team."
Amber's eyes widened. She may not love playing soccer, but it was something she had grown accostumed to. But even more importantly, it was something her parents wanted her to do, and her getting suspended from the team would mean all hell would break lose when she got home.
"What? Sus-suspended? For missing one practice?" Amber asked, her voice wavering.
"This practice was the one that broke the camel's back. Amber, you have been late many many times, and your mind hasn't been here lately, if your heart isn't into it then I don't want you bringing down the team. One month suspended from the team. No coming to practices, and no coming to games as a part of the team. I'm sorry Amber."
"Ya, it's ok." Amber lied through her smile.
Amber turned on her heel and walked over toward her bag, the talking coming to a stop as she approached. Embaressment seemed to wash over Amber as she picked up her bag and started walking away. The girls watched her leave without saying a word, as if they knew this would happen.
Amber wiped a tear off her face as she pulled out her phone and turned if on.
I hope it made your day better
cause that does seem to be my job
to make your day that much better

Amber let out a disbelieving sigh as she rolled her eyes and snapped her phone shut. Unless Nick could convince Amber's mom and dad that soccer and basketball weren't important then he wasn't about to make her day any better. It was more of the dread of knowing what was the come that led Amber to let those salty tears fall down her cheek more than the feeling of knowing that she had just been suspended from her team as well as her friends.
