You're My Door -- Original One Shot -- My Only Open Door

One shot of Original characters for Eternal Absolution! (I seriously love the idea of that project... I think it's really, really awesome to get people to bring out some inspiration from a song and turn it into a mini-story.) Anyways, this one was based on the song "Meds" by Placebo. I had a tough time at first because I didn't want it to be all about the song and shit but I think it turned out alright. Pretty cheesy but still pretty good, I must say. Enjoy!

"Hey, where you going little man?" Sarah asked as she peeked her head around the corner to
see her fiance grabbing the keys to the car as he pushed his left arm through the sleeve of
his black jacket.

"I'll be back soon, love. Promise." Jourdan said as he hastily walked out the door without
the proper explanation Sarah had asked for.

"Yeah, okay... whatever." She mumbled to herself as she finished the dishes and drained the
water from the sink. After she had dried her hands she walked over to the french doors and
stood out on the small balcony of their 27th floor suite.

Breathing in the sweet scent of the evening air she lit up a cigarette and leaned back
against the wall. She was worried about Jourdan, this wasn't exactly normal
behavior.

Well, not lately at least.

When she had first met him he did the same thing. They would be hanging out in the mall or
in the middle of a crowded theatre and he would suddenly jump up and leave her, dumbfounded
and confused. The next day he would offer no explanation as to where he had gone and never
did she recieve an apology, either.

Once they had started dating things had calmed down and he didn't run off nearly as often.
It came to a point where he was always around and Sarah liked it that way. Having her best
friend and lover around 24/7 was not nearly as bad as some couples made it out to
be.

They were young and in love.

But things changed once they were engaged. He had stopped taking his meds, and never
bothered to consult a doctor about his decision. Everytime Sarah would confront him about
it he would brush it off and say he just forgot about them.

His life depended on those three little pills. Without them he was unstable;
violent.

The sound of the phone ringing jolted her out of her reminiscent thoughts and she stubbed
out her cigarette, rushing inside to answer.

"Hello?" She asked once the reciever was at her ear.

"Hey dorkface, mind if I come over for a bit to hang out?" Her good friend Jesse asked in a
sing-song voice.

"Yeah, sure!" Sarah replied with a small smile. "I could use the company."

"Jourdy-face go out again?"

"Yeah."

"Still won't tell you where?" Jesse asked knowingly, a hint of annoyance in her
voice.

"Nope." Sarah answered with a sigh.

"Well, i'll be over to entertain you in a few minutes. See you soon!" Jesse said before
hanging up.

Sarah hung up her end and flopped down on the sofa, closing her eyes and unsucessfully
reaching for the remote on the coffee table.

She pushed the button labelled 'power' and "The 24th Letter" by Balan started playing
softly through the room. She let the song soothe her as she waited for Jesse to arrive,
which would be long considering she lived a meer three blocks away.

There was a knock on the door just as "Despre Tine" came on. She turned the music down to a
volume barely audible and walked to the door. She turned the knob and was greeted with
Jesse's hug.

Sarah wrapped her arms around her friend and struggled to hold back the tears and she
buried her face in Jesse's shoulder.

"It's okay, love... i'm sure it's nothing big." Jesse said reassuringly as she pulled back
from Sarah and closed the door.

"Yeah, I just hope... you know..."

"Keep your head up, Jourdan's changed."

"But you never know!" Sarah quipped as she resumed her position she had on the couch before
her friend had come.

"Come on! Start thinking positively about this shit, Sar..." Jesse said as she rolled her
eyes in annoyance.

She took a seat on the chair beside Sarah and sighed in frustration. Of course she was used
to having these types of conversations with her over-analytical friend but it was getting
to the point where it was just getting annoyingly repetitive.

"I'm sorry, Jess... I just don't know what to do!"

"Maybe try confronting him about it instead of calling me up to show you some
sympathy?"

Sarah looked over to Jesse and gave her an odd look. "Uh, what?"

"Confront him," She replied as she stood up and headed to the door. "I'm tired of being the
shoulder you cry on... you need to just talk to him about it."

"What? Why are you leaving?" Sarah asked as she got up and rushed over to her
friend.

"Talk... to... him!" Jesse said through gritted teeth as she opened the door and walked
into the man in question.

Jourdan gave both girls a weird look before Jesse pushed past him and walked briskly down
the hall and out of sight.

"What was that all about?" He asked as he walked into the apartment and hung his coat on a
hook.

"Jourdan, we need to talk." Sarah said as she slowly closed the door behind her and leaned
against it, her eyes finding amusement within the hardwood floor beneath her feet.

"That's never a good thing to hear," He said hesitantly, not knowing if he should stay and
listen or just bail on the obvious situation about to arise.

"Where have you been going lately?" She asked as she lifted her head to lock her blue eyes
with his hazel ones.

"Babe, is this really neces-"

"YES! IT IS! I'm tired of you just fucking off like this and not giving me any explanation
whatsoever!" Sarah blurted out more harshly than she had intended.

Jourdan looked at her, surprised by her tone of voice and ferocity. She was normally the
calm, collected one but now she had apparently decided to switch roles.

"Sar-"

"Don't you talk to me like i'm some fucking child. I know you've been forgetting to take
your meds. Hell, you probably just don't take them thinking you don't need them but you
do!"

"All those pills do is put me in a daze and you bloody-well know it, Sarah. I quit taking
them for my own good!" He yelled back as he walked towards their bedroom in
frustration.

Sarah followed him quickly, storming with pain and rage from all the shit that he's put her
through with his problems.

"If you really want to know I was fucking working." He said suddenly as he started
rummaging through the pockets of his black dress suit hanging in the closet.

"Working? You work nine to five at the fucking office, Jourdan. Don't tell me this is
fucking overtime because i'm not buying it."

"Give me some credit, Sarah... I was working for my dad, trying to pay off this," he said
as he protruded a small black, velvet box from his jacket and handed it to her.

She looked from the box to Jourdan in awe, not believing if her assumptions about this
little box in her hands was correct or... just an assumption.

"Wh-what is t-this?" She stuttered as she just stared at him, completely struck by
surprise.

"Open it." He said, not moving his gaze from her eyes.

Sarah lifted the lid of the little box to come face to face with the most gorgeous ring she
had ever seen. Sterling silver band with diamond insets lined with an onyx border.

"W-what is th-"

"You know what it is..." Jesse interrupted as he sat on the edge of the bed, nervously
twiddling his thumbs. In all the years he had managed to control his Tourettes, it was
finally showing through in this confusing time.

Sarah looked at him, tears welling up in her eyes. She closed the lid of the box and walked
over to Jourdan, kneeling down in front of him.

"Why didn't you just tell me?" She asked softly as she took his hands in hers and kissed
them gently.

"I-I wanted it to b-be a s-surprise." He said, choking on his words.

Sarah buried her face in his arms and let the tears fall freely. After all the things she
said, all the doubts she held in her heart about his love for her. Everything was coming
back to bite her in the ass and it was all her fault.

"I'm sorry," she mumbled, struggling to slow the river of tears flowing from her icy blue
eyes.

"Don't be," Jourdan reassured her as he wrapped his arms around her small frame and hugged
her tightly. "We were both wrong in this situation."

"No, I shouldn't have assumed the worst. It was my fault this shit happened and i'm sorry."
She said as she looked up at him, regret reflecting in her eyes.

"It's okay, sweetheart. I'm still here." He said with a small smile, wiping her tears away
with his thumbs. She cracked a smile back and pressed her lips lightly against his,
savoring the moment they had created.

Jourdan deepened the kiss and laced his fingers with hers before finally pulling away with
a smirk.

"Now, for what I should've done a long time ago," he said as he stood up and switched
positions with her so he was now kneeling on one knee and she was sitting on the edge of
the bed.

"A bit cheesy, don't you think?" She joked as she handed him the small velvet box with a
grin on her face.

"Of course, but is there any other way?" He said with a sly smirk.

"Not in this Cinderella story."

"Well... Sarah Lynn Read; will you marry me?" He asked as he held the ring out to
her.

"Fucking rights I will," she replied as he slipped the ring over her finger and she quickly
embraced him with all the love she could find within herself.

"I love you, so fucking much..." Jourdan said as he buried his face into her long, silky
blonde hair.

"I love you more than time can tell," Sarah replied as she savored the moment that she
hoped would last forever.
