More than two weeks had passed, and questions still had not been answered in Zac's part at all. The two girls would be together in secret more than often, checking every corner and hallway to see if their friend had been hiding in places they didn't know of, just waiting to catch them in their act. Glances were passed seldom in the presence of others, less often now since someone had become suspicious of what they had been doing, that someone being their own best friend.
Its not that Hayley or Natalie hadn't trusted the drummer, its that neither of them were ready to admit to him that they were in a relationship and Hayley was most definitely not going to be dating any guys soon. For some reason, though, that just tore the lead singer apart inside, seeing as Josh had still thought they were most definitely together. Things most certainly needed to be worked out between everyone.
Now, the whole band had been on the bus, relaxing after a rigorous show they had just played in Las Vegas. It was late, the moon was every so often peeking its way through softly silhouetted gray clouds, a splash of twinkling stars completing the beautiful Nevada skyline. The bus had been rolling along the high way once again, eagerly trudging towards its San Francisco destination.
Josh and Jeremy had been in the sitting area of the bus, frantically pushing the buttons and flicking the controls of the X Box controllers in their hands. Taylor had been resting his eyes and snoring rather loudly in his bunk, ignoring completely the hollers of victory from either of the infantile men, which left Hayley and Natalie in the back room of the bus, faces of worry about each of them.
"He wouldn't tell anyone, would he?" Hayley had asked, a slight squeak in her voice as she paced back in forth in front of the bed. Natalie had been resting her back against the headboard of the bed, her dark eyes following the fiery lead singer's body nervously walk back and forth before her, "I mean, its been two weeks, Nat. Two freaking weeks! I think he probably would have said something by now..."
Natalie sighed, chest rising and falling quickly beneath her green wife beater, a soothing tone about her voice as she spoke, and a bit of a chuckle, "Hayls, he has more common sense than you think. Hes a smart boy. He'd talk to us first before he said anyth--"
"How do we know that for sure, though?!" She had stopped in her tracks by this point, interrupting Natalie completely and facing her with her hands thrown up in the air in defeat almost, "Josh and Jem and Taylor could all be making fun of us right now for all we know!"
A scream in victory from quite childish men, and an obnoxious snort from the bunk just outside the back room had answered Hayley's question indirectly, a smirk replacing the straight lips that Natalie had held against her face, "Does that answer your question?"
Pouting slightly, Hayley easily admitted her defeat and fell on the bed on her stomach next to Natalie's legs, looking up at her with tangled red hair concealing the green orbs on her face. The dark hair girl had smiled at this, laying down on her side in front of her to get an easier view between the two of them. It would have been a perfect moment to just stare into each other's eyes then, share a kiss or two, if it weren't the boy that had just knocked on the bedroom door, asking if he could come in.
"Hayls, we need to talk..." The owner of the voice had opened the door slowly, and cautiously, almost as if he were to open it any quicker, either of the girls would have thrown something at him for interrupting their moment alone.
Both the girls had sat up quickly, the lead singer fixing her fiery locks, almost staring at the drummer the moment he saw him, scared to say anything at all. Natalie had spoken though, being Hayley's voice when she had none of her own, "Zac, we--"
"I know, I kind of figured." He began, a slight grin on his face as he closed the door behind him, hands now shoved in his jeans pockets. Hayley's face had turned a deep shade of red by this point, Natalie laughing as she noticed the embarrassed expression about the singer's face as she turned to look at her. The fiery red head once again, though, just sat and pouted, less of playful way this time though, Zac coming over to sit down on the bed next to the two girls.
"So um... you know everything?" Hayley had asked finally, her first words to the drummer in awhile now. Along with avoiding him psychically, she had kept herself out of quite a few conversations with her friend, which just added to the suspicion already in place.
Zac shrugged, looking down at the comforter that was wrinkled beneath them, a red vintage pattern sewn into the blanket, "Eh, probably. I mean, I still have questions, but thats only if you're comfortable answering them?"
Hayley had become suddenly nervous in this spotlight, nearly clinging to the comforter as she sat beside Natalie, a soothing hand laying against hers, one that could only be recognized as the dark haired girl's herself. The drummer had then looked up from staring contest with the bed, lips twisted slightly as he waited for answer from both of the girls.
The fiery haired teenager looked to Natalie for support, and she had nodded her head in reply to her unspoken question. Both the girls had then answered typical question after typical question, most consisting of when Natalie and Hayley had actually starting being "together", and that question of Zac's had only lead to one that was sure to make both of them uncomfortable.
"Does Josh know about you two at all?"
You can do this, Hayley... She had thought, squeezing the dark haired girl's hand beside he, Just be strong...
In between thoughts with herself, she had closed her eyes tightly, almost as if to block out tears. Her head then shook side to side, Natalie giving a reassuring pat on her hand as a job well done, her eyes opening to find a contemplative Zac before herself. She had never seen one of her best friends in a mess such as this to help someone, and it was a disappointing feeling to know that it was because of her own actions that he had been like this.
"You know, Hayls... He needs to find out sooner or later," Zac had instantly noticed the worry about the singer's features, hoping that maybe words other than questions passing his lips would soothe the girl. No suck luck, as Hayley soon became more worried as to what the outcome of telling her boyfriend that she was no longer interested in him and was leaving him for a girl.
"I know he does, Zac... I'm just s-scared." Tears began to form in the girl's eyes, a cue for Natalie to embrace her in a hug and cradle her slightly in her arms, the salty liquid leaking from her eyes as her heartbeat could be heard much easier.
The brunette drummer had quickly found his defeat and sighed, Hayley nearly sobbing into Natalie's chest. He hadn't meant to make Hayley cry, he was only trying to help her, but he guessed tears were the only way to get to a solution, right? As the crying continued, and Natalie would evenly run her hand up and down the girl's back, Zac had sighed again, moving up on the bed more to be able to touch her back as well, "Hayley, please don't cry... You know I'm only trying to help."
Hayley had then moved her wet face from Natalie's chest, eyes red and nose just the same, speaking to Zac through a cracked voice, "I-I know you're only t-trying to h-help... I'm just... I don't know... S-Scared, I guess?"
An understanding nod from the drummer concluded his understanding, but leaving Zac to push just a few more questions in before the water works would start up again, "But when do you think you'll tell him?"
A shrug, tears being subsided by blinking emerald eyes, and a squeeze from Natalie had answered his question this time, very few words following all of these actions, "I honestly don't know."
"You know were here for you, Hayley..." After what seemed like ages, Natalie had finally spoken, a smile curving against the tiny lead singer's soft lips. She leaned up to kiss her cheek, stopping about half way, remembering that Zac had been in the room, looking back at him almost asking for permission.
"Hey, its your life. I'm cool with it." He said, a smile uplifting from his face as well as Hayley continued her lip's journey to the side of Natalie's face. Zac had laughed then, standing up from his place on the bed to walk towards the back room door, leaving the two girl's on the bed in each other's arms.
"Just hope you know, Josh is gonna need to know soon..." He said with a chuckle, opening the door as he did so. It was then that Zac's departure was interrupted by a figured standing in the doorway, one that surprised the likes of all three of the teenagers in the bedroom.
"Josh is going to need to know what?"
It seemed that the video game that him and the bassist had been playing had completely lost their interest.
And when it rains, on this side of town it touches everything. Just say it again and mean it, we don't miss a thing. And made yourself look better, at the bottom of the blackest hole. And convinced yourself that its not the reason you don't see the sun anymore. And oh oh, how could you do it? I, I, I never saw it coming. Oh, oh, I need the ending. So why can't you stay just long enough to explain? ♥
