"Ms. Blake?" I looked up from my paperwork to see a slightly smiling man with shaggy light brown hair and piercing blue eyes.
Deron Miller was the most intriguing man I had ever met. Twelve months ago, a tragedy occurred. He lost his wife to a car accident.
A month later, we met. I was instantly fascinated by his coping skills. He threw himself into his music and hasn't surfaced since.
"Deron, please call me Crystal. Come in, sit down." I said, motioning to the set of chairs in front of my mahogany desk. I stacked the papers in front of me into a neat pile as he sat.
"What can I do for you today?" I asked, giving him my best professional smile and folding my hands on the stack of papers. I had to professional, even if I did have a wee bit of a crush on him.
"Well, I can't believe Chad talked me into this..." He trailed off, mostly talking to himself.
"Talked you into what?" I asked.
"Nothing, nothing. I shouldn't have come." He muttered, standing. I stood as well and walked around the desk as he hurried to the door.
"Are you alright?" I asked, touching his arm gently as he reached for the door.
"Yeah, um..." He looked into my eyes and stopped talking.
"What is it?" I prompted.
"There's something about your eyes. Something that reminds me of...Never mind, it's stupid, I'll go now." He said, shaking his head.
"No, really, what's up?" I said, stopping him once again.
"Nothing."
"Who do I remind you of?" I asked. I was truly curious.
"My ex-wife." He muttered, not looking at my face.
"Oh, I'm sorry." I regretted pushing him. I should have stopped; the pain of his loss was still raw in his face.
"Which leads me to why I'm here." He said, still looking at his face.
"Why is that?" He looked up with a small smile.
"Would you like to go out with me?" I had to smile.
