I'm actually kind of ashamed of how long it took me to get this out here. I'm really sorry but the next one will most deff. not take this long! Sorry again and I hope you enjoy it [its a long one].

Sophia ignored Julie’s smug smirk and the ‘I-told-you-so’ look in her eyes as they sat in Sophia’s bedroom. Julie was finishing putting on her lip-gloss and Sophia was putting running a brush through her flaming hair before her first date with Matt.

“So where’s he taking you?” Julie asked and Sophia shrugged.

“He wouldn’t tell me.” Julie snorted a laugh.

“You know, it’d be hilarious if he ended up taking you to someplace like Ripples, or someplace equally disgustingly elite.” Sophia wrinkled her nose at the thought of the posh restaurant with the glass ceiling and beautiful marbled floors. Appetizers started at $45 a plate and even the waiters walked around with an aurora of sophistication and with their noses in the air.

Over all, the five-star restaurant was the most boring place Sophia had ever gone to eat. Everyone spoke in quiet voices as if their regular toned voices would shatter the beautifully structured building. Actually, Sophia knew she was being a bit biased towards the restaurant simply because they weren’t her style.

Sophia had grown up in a middleclass family that enjoyed home cooked meals and regular, family restaurants. Sophia always found herself enjoying the kinds of places where you could kick back and still have a good time over the sophisticated places that many of her colleges enjoyed.

Sophia waved her hand in a dismissing manner.

“He should know that I’m not into those kind of places…”

“Well most girls are.”

“And when have you ever known me to follow the crowd?” Julie’s eyes sparkled as she giggled.

“Never.”

“And there‘s no reason for that to change now.” Sophia told firmly as she set the brush down. She walked across the room to her macbook and smiled when she saw that she had a video chat invitation from Alison. “Julie, come here. Alison wants to video chat.”

Sophia pushed ‘accept’ and smiled at the blond who appeared on the screen.

“Hey Ali! How’s Europe?” Sophia asked right away. Alison shrugged and Sophia saw the chaos going on in the background. She watched Annabelle kick Matt in the shins before she took off and Matt angrily went after her.

“Well, all is well here in my life. I actually just received a phone call from Thomas and the divorce are finally complete between him and Lisa, thank God. Ashley, Christina, John, and I are all taking him out to celebrate once I get back to the states. ”

“Whose Thomas?” Julie broke in curiously, having already met the others.

“Oh, he’s one of my friends from high school…he married this awful wrench who…ugh, I’d rather not get into it again. I’ll have Sophia call him up and introduce you sometime.”

“Well that’s good. Whose getting the kids?”

“Thomas has most of the custody and Lisa gets them every other weekend and every Tuesday. Now moving onto other matters, what’s up with the little black dress? Are we going out tonight, Miss Dane?”

Sophia’s cheeks tinged pink as she nodded.

“With who? Did Matt finally woo you?” Sophia laughed and rolled her eyes but nodded non the less. Alison snickered. “So that’s a good outfit choice…if you guys get bored of each other, you can stare at him and he can stare at your cleavage because Sophia hun, it’s popping out of that dress.” Sophia gasped as Julie started to laugh along with Alison.

Sophia looked down at her cleavage and felt heat rush to her cheeks - were they really hanging out?

“I’m just kidding Sophia, relax. Sure that dress is showing some cleavage but only enough to tease…not enough to give him a show.” Alison soothed and Sophia rolled her eyes.

“Fine, but speaking of appearances….since we are now separated by an ocean, I feel it’s safe to tell you that you look like a blimp.” This time Alison gasped as she placed a hand on her bulging stomach.

Being pregnant sucked sometimes.

“Shut up, Sophia. Be careful on your date tonight or you’ll be looking like this in nine-months while I’ll have my regular lean body back.” Alison grumbled good naturedly. “Thank God this baby is coming out this month…” She sighed happily and Sophia was about to speak when the doorbell rang. Sophia and Julie looked at each other before looking back to the screen where Alison nodded. “Alright, obviously Matt’s there. What are you doing tonight, Julie?”

“I’m going to this new club that just opened downtown with some girlfriends, we’ll be looking for some eye candy.” Julie stated with a laugh as she stood with Sophia.

“Best kind of candy out there.” Alison said with a light smile.

“You said it, sister.” Julie replied with a laugh before waving to Alison.

“Alright, I’ll talk to you two later. Bye!” Alison told before ending the video chat; the doorbell rang again and both girls rushed to take a last look at themselves in the mirror.

Sophia was satisfied with the way her curly red hair lightly hung loosely around her shoulders and brought out her steel grey eyes. The little black dress complimented her figure and her red heels were a shade darker than her hair.

Julie bent down and tousled her light brown hair that went a bit past her shoulders before standing back up and smiling at her appearance. Her hair now looked a bit sexier and crazed and her vibrant green eyes were brought out by her light green corset-type looking shirt that she had paired with tight dark jeans and dark green heels.

Sophia and Julie jogged to the door and the pair nodded to each other their approval of their appearances before Sophia swung the door open. Matt was standing there, his face showing slight confusion mixed with frustration and his hand was poised to knock again. He sported dress pants a button down shirt with the cuffs rolled up and it slightly hugged his muscles. His brown hair was tousled like Julie’s and his blue eyes sparkled in the house lights.

“Sorry it took so long.” Julie spoke as Matt pulled Sophia into him to kiss her in greeting. “Alright, well I’m outta here. Call me, Soph. Bye Matt.” Sophia barely registered her best friend leaving in her car and instead focused on the lips that were on her own. Matt pulled away after a few seconds and grinned the at redhead in front of him.

“You’re looking gorgeous tonight.” He said simply as he brushed an auburn tendril from her face and placed it behind Sophia’s ear. “Are you read to go?” Sophia nodded and closed the door behind her as Matt led them to his black car. Sophia had no idea what type of car it was because…well, because she honestly didn’t spend her time reading up on all the different types of cars, but it looked pretty impressive with its leather interior design and sleek appearance.

“So where are we going?” Sophia asked as they took off; Matt smiled ahead and reached for Sophia’s hand but didn’t look at her. Sophia met his hand and it rested in his near the gear shift.

“You’ll find out soon enough, Soph. So where’s your nephew this fine night?”

“With my parents.”

“They’re still in town?”

“Yep, leaving when my dear sister gets back from her honeymoon.”

“Remind me to stop by and say hi…so how’s work coming along?” Sophia shrugged.

“Alright…I finally got the color scheme right. Alison thought they were to dark at first.”

“But if they’re your designs, shouldn’t you know what color scheme is correct?” Matt asked curiously as he started to slowly rub his thumb over the back of Sophia‘s hand.

“Well she was right…I wasn’t exactly to pleased with the way the designs had come out either…plus, they’re much more spring oriented now.”

“Okay, if you say so. I know nothing about the fashion industry so I won’t even pretend to get involved.” He notified and Sophia laughed lightly as she leaned her head against the window of the car.

They drove in a comfortable silence for a while before Matt finally pulled into the restaurant parking lot. Sophia quickly noted that it wasn’t Ripples but she was still a bit wary about the place; it looked a bit too sophisticated from the outside.

Never judge a book by its cover, the line ran through her head and Sophia gracefully stepped from Matt’s car and he walked over to take her hand once again and lead her into the restaurant.

Matt walked in with Sophia and she held in a sigh; it was just like Ripples.

They were greeted by a women who looked to be in her mid 50’s and she held an air or arrogance around her as she spoke. Matt told her the reservation and she checked his name before leading the couple to the reserved table near the back.

Sophia looked over the menu and rolled her eyes, the whole menu was in Italian.

“Matt?” Sophia spoke and Matt met her eyes.

“Yes?”

“Do you know Italian?” Matt nodded and Sophia rose an eyebrow. “Took it senior year.” Sophia’s eyebrow dropped and her questioning look was replaced by an indifferent one.

“Oh.” Well that certainly explained why she was unaware of that fact. Matt held back a wince once he realized he had brought up senior year which was a sore topic for both of them.

He watched as she remained silent until the waiter came to take orders for drinks and the appetizers; she ordered a Diet Pepsi and he ordered a Coke along with a plate of calamari.

Sophia eventually gave up on trying to read the menu and instead placed it down as she took in her surroundings.

In the back of his mind, Matt was worried as to why Sophia wasn’t gushing about how much she loved the place where they were eating.

Matt remembered how his first date out of college hadn’t gone so well when he took the girl to comfortable and exotic Thai food place that he had heard about and really wanted to try. From that day on, he found that women found it much more pleasing when brought to a fancy, society lifting restaurant then when brought somewhere as simple as Ruby Tuesdays. He figured that they liked the fact that they could brag to their friends about the date later on.

Maybe Sophia wasn’t responding the way he wanted her to because she was still upset about him bringing up senior year of high school. Something in his gut told him that it was probably something more than that but he took a shot at it anyways.

“Sophia, you can’t really be mad, can you?” He asked with a sigh and Sophia’s eyes snapped to him.

“I’m not mad…maybe a little aggravated - but only a little! It’s just not what I expected, that’s all.”

“Well I wasn’t planning on talking about it.” Matt bit back.

“Then why did you bring it up in the first place?” She asked in a huff as she crossed her arms over her chest sourly.

“Well it wasn’t like I planned it!”

“Of course you planned it! You made god d_mn reservations for us!”

“Well I di- wait, what?” Matt stopped suddenly. “Reservations? What are you talking about…I thought you were mad about the whole me bringing up senior year of high school thing.”

Sophia’s shifted in her seat and shook her head.

“No, I thought we were talking about the restaurant.”

“What’s wrong with the restaurant?” Matt asked suddenly and Sophia laughed and shook her head.

“Matt, I’m afraid that if I start to eat my meal with the wrong fork then I’ll suddenly be kicked out and have my picture put up on their wall of shame that they probably have hanging around somewhere.” Matt laughed but looked at her questionably non-the-less.

“I thought all ladies liked this sort of stuff?”

“Matt, you can’t bunch all ladies up into one group. We’re all different…I mean, don’t get me wrong…this is a great place to come on like an anniversary or something but for a first date? Now seriously, think back and answer this carefully - is this really the kind of first date that you’d expect me to enjoy?” Sophia asked curiously as she tucked the piece of red hair that continued to escape behind her ear again.

Matt thought back on his memories with Sophia and as images of her carefree ways flashed through his mind, he knew that he had made a mistake. With a sigh and looked around and snapped for the waiter; Sophia grinned as he canceled the orders and grabbed her hand.

“Alright, you want to have a real fun date then I’ll give it to you.” Sophia smiled happily as Matt grabbed her hand and pulled her out the door, smile on his face as well.

+-------------------------+

By the time Matt and Sophia arrived at the club, it was already in full swing. The music was pumping, the drinks were making rounds, and the couples had overtaken the dance floor.

Sophia laughed as Matt pulled her over to a table on the second floor and instantly, a waiter was at their side.

Sophia asked for her usual Flaming B-52 for herself while Matt ordered a plain some weird alcoholic beverage that Sophia had never heard of. Sophia looked around the lively place and lightly began to bop her head to the music.

“So is this the kind of date you were hoping for?” Matt spoke as he too looked around. This was the kind of place he enjoyed going but most of his pervious girlfriends did not.

“Actually, yes.” She laughed. “It’s nice to mix it up a little. Come on, let’s dance.” The couple stood from the table and made their way down the stairs to the first floor were the dance floor was located; they squeezed there way in and Matt grasped Sophia’s hand as they started to dance. He spun her around and pulled her close and just did so much more the usual grinding. Her hips moved to the beat and Matt ran his hands down her sides as she smiled up at him; he finally leaned down to kiss her and since her arms were already wrapped around his neck, it was easy to pull him close to her.

After a bit of dancing, he pulled her away from the dance floor and took them back to their table where their drinks were waiting. The night went on and the more they danced, the more alcohol they took in. Sophia’s dancing became dirtier and Matt’s hands became greedier. Their kisses became more passionate and by the time the couple safely made it back to Sophia’s home, all sense of reason was gone as they became lost in a mess of sheets, sweat, and passion.
