"Such lovely mist," I muttered heatedly, not very happy about being back in the village that tortured me. Kakashi kicked my leg to shut me up and I glared at him but said nothing.
"This mist is so thick... I can't see anything..." Sakura said.
Everyone sat in silence for a little bit, straining their eyes to see land All of them but me, of course. I was still mad that I had to be there in the first place.
"We should be able to see the bridge in a little bit," Tazuna said quietly.
The ferry man paused for a moment and stood up, looking out into the mist. "If we go alongside this bridge we'll be in the Country of the Waves." I gulped, my face paling visibly.
"Aira-chan? What's wrong?" Sakura asked.
"Nothing Sakura," I muttered, looking out into the misty air as I let my bangs hide my face from the group. I looked up just in time to see a massive object looming over us.
"It's huge!" Naruto yelled. I moved to the front of the boat quickly and clamped a hand over his big mouth.
"Be quiet Naruto!" I hissed.
"Thank you Miss! We're hiding in this mist, which is the other reason I'm rowing instead of using the motor!" The ferry man hissed at Naruto.
I removed my hand from Naruto's mouth and moved back to my spot across from Kakashi. I sat cross-legged and folded my arms over my chest, looking at Tazuna.
"Tazuna-san," Kakashi started. He looked up at Kakashi. "Before we reach the pier I need you to tell me what you wouldn't in the forest. Who are the ones that are out to get you? If you don't tell us, we will call this mission off as soon as we reach shore."
"Kakashi that's a little extreme," I said.
"No it's fine. You need to hear my story anyway. Like Kakashi said, this is out of your job description," Tazuna sighed. "An extremely terrible man is after my life. All of you should have at least heard the name. Marine transportation billionaire Gatoh," He said. My breath caught in my throat and my eyes grew extremely wide.
"G- Gatoh?" I asked shakily. Tazuna nodded.
"I see you know him."
"Only too well..." I whispered, pulling my knees to my chest. Kakashi stepped in. He was the one on the boat that knew of what happened to me.
"You mean Gatoh from the Gatoh Company?" He asked. "He's one of the richest men in this world!"
"Who is that?! And why is Aira-chan scared of him?" Naruto asked. Kakashi looked at me, not realizing that Gatoh was the one that had ordered my capture and torture. I shivered at the memories that came flooding back. Tazuna went on about how Gatoh had used his wealth as a shield to get what he wanted, but I didnt pay attention.
"And the only thing that freak is afraid of is connection to other countries, I.E. the completion of the bridge," I said frostily.
"That's right, which is why he wants me killed," He said.
"Why didn't you just tell us this before so we could skip this whole thing?" Kakashi asked.
"Because our country doesn't have the money to request a 'B' rank mission or above. Even our Feudal Lord doesn't have much money. And if you quit this mission now I'll be killed for sure... But you don't need to blame yourselves!" Tazuna said. "My grandson would just cry and cry, and my daughter would hold a grudge against Kohona ninja and grow up to live a lonely life." Sakura and Narutos eyes twitched and I just stared blankly at Tazuna, a sweat drop rolling down the back of my head.
"You're a strange one..." I muttered. Again, Kakashi kicked me and I glared at him but he ignored it.
"I guess it can't be helped. We'll continue to escort you," Kakashi said, smiling nervously.
Stupid guilt trips... I thought, but I didn't say anything for fear of being kicked again. Not that it hurt, it was just annoying.
"Thats good to hear!" Tazuna said. I sighed and looked around.
"We're almost there," The boat driver told us. I sighed again. He started to talk quietly to Tazuna as I move slowly to the front of the boat to get a better look. Naruto grinned practically from ear to ear when we broke out into the daylight and out of the mist.
"It's actually kind of... Nice here..." I muttered. I bent over the edge of the boat and dipped my hand in the clear blue water and smiled at my reflection.
After a moment the boat pulled up to the docks and we got off, my legs still a little shaky from the boat.
"Well you don't seem to have your sea legs yet!" Tazuna laughed good naturedly, hitting my back a little too hard. I fell face first to the ground, hitting my nose hard.
"You asshole..." I muttered, rubbing my sore nose, then my sore leg when Kakashi kicked it.
"Be nice!" He hissed at me, his visible eye narrowing in warning. I stood up and smiled sweetly, walking in front of him and elbowing him hard in the stomach, making sure no one else saw.
"Oh! Kakashi what happened?" I asked sweetly, bending down to his level.
"N- Nothing," He gasped, the breath knocked out of him. I patted his back, and evil grin on my face.
"Good! We don't want our favorite Jounin to be hurt!" I said. Sakura, Sasuke, and Tazuna all sweat dropped while Naruto fell to the ground laughing. I walked on, my hands folded behind my head. I was proud of what I did.
"Serves him right for kicking me..." I muttered heatedly under my breath.
"Ok then. Let's get home safely," Tazuna said, breaking the awkward silence. Kakashi nodded and stood up straight, trying not to show the small amount of pain. He hit Naruto on his way by and Sakura and Sasuke skirt around him to let him pass. Naruto hauled himself off the ground and glared off after Kakashi and stalked up to walk behind Sakura and Sasuke.
"You shouldn't have done-" Kakashi started, but cut off when I freeze.
"Kakashi do you feel that?" I asked, my voice shaking slightly. He shook his head.
"HYAH!" Naruto yelled, throwing a kunai in some bushes. I swung around only to see him trying to show off. "Oh. Guess it was just a mouse."
"Stop showing off Naruto!" Sakura and I yelled at once. I even tried to smack him over the head, but Kakashi held me back.
"Naruto please don't use your throwing knives so abusively!" Kakashi snapped.
"Seriously Naruto. You nearly gave me a heart attack," I snapped at him. My heart leapt as something rustled in the bushes and I spun around, looking at them again. Kakashi looked around as well, and Naruto, once again, threw a kunai.
"I told you to stop that!" Sakura yelled, hitting Naruto in the back of his head.
"But I really did sense someone that time!" He whined, holding his sore head. Kakashi walked over to the bushes and I followed him, only to find a snow rabbit with the kunai right above it, twitching and crying. I walked away slowly with Kakashi as Naruto rubbed the rabbit against his face.
"Kakashi what is it? Something is bothering you," I whispered.
"That was a snow rabbit. Only found in the winter," He told me. I sent him a confused look and he went on. "Someone must have used it for a replacement jutsu." I nodded.
"That makes sense... But-" I stopped mid sentence and look around to see a large sword swing towards us. "Hit the deck!" I screamed tackling Kakashi to the ground just as the sword passed over us. I lifted myself up just in time to see the sword embed itself in a tree, and watch as someone landed on it. My body shivered and I slowly got up backing up against a tree. Fear coursed through me as I looked up at the man I had seen the whole time I was down in that hell hole.
"Well if it isn't the pretty girl that was here a few weeks ago," The Demon of the Mist, Momochi Zabuza said, smirking down at me. Shakily I pulled out my katana as I looked, wide-eyed, up at Zabuza.
"I- It's you! Y- You're the one t- that Gatoh left my torturing too! Y- You nearly had a group of guys kill me!"
Zabuza smiled down at me. "I must admit it was fun watching you. You never screamed once, no matter what they did to you..." He said. I growled deep in my throat and tried to run at him, but Kakashi held me back.
"Stay back, everyone," Kakashi said, looking at me directly. "You're in my way."
"Kakashi-"
"Aira get back! This is an order from your sensei!" Kakashi snapped. I froze for a moment, debating on whether I should ignore a direct order, before stepping back. "All of you, protect Tazuna-san." I gulped and held out my katana, stepping to the side so I can watch Kakashi fight Zabuza.
Kakashi lifted his hand to his hitai-ate. "So you must be Kakashi, the Sharingan user," Zabuza said. I looked at Sasuke, who had gasped. His face was twisted with shock at hearing something that only comes from his blood-line. I looked back up at Kakashi, who had lifted his hitai-ate up. Naruto asked what the Sharingan is and before Kakashi can explain, Sasuke speaks up.
"The eye creates it, and it's the power the pupil generates. Those who have this are known to be able to see threw all genjutsu, ninjutsu, and taijutsu and cancel their effects. Sharingan is only one of the many eye powers that doujutsu users posses," Sasuke said. (Note: Doujutsu= Eye technique) "But that's not all the Sharingan can do."
"That's true. The scary part is that the Sharingan can copy and understand an opponents technique. That's how Kakashi got the name, Copy Ninja," Zabuza said from the hilt of his sword. I took a deep breath and steadied myself so I didn't try to run him through with my sword.
As soon as he said that, however, the whole place became covered in mist. I shivered, the cold droplets of water sticking to my skin, and making it difficult to see. "When I was in the Village Hidden in the Mist's assassination squad, your information was in the bingo book I carried asking for your capture. It also said this. 'The man who copied over 1000 techniques, Kakashi the Copy Ninja.'" Everyone stared at Kakashi, shocked, except me since I already knew. "Anyway enough of this idle chit-chat. I need to kill the geezer." Naruto Sasuke and Sakura got into position then, Sasuke jumping right next to me, and Naruto behind me. "But it seems I have to defeat you first, Kakashi." Zabuza pulled out his sword quickly and jumped onto the water. My muscles tensed at his speed even with the giant sword, and I looked worriedly at Kakashi but I said nothing.
"He's on the water?" Sakura cried. Zabuza held one of his hands in front of his face, and the other one held high in the air.
"Mist concealment," He said. I gulped as the mist got so thick I couldn't even see Kakashi anymore. Hell I could barely see the tip of my sword.
"He disappeared!" Sakura gasped. Kakashi walked forward, putting himself in between Zabuza and Tazuna. "Sensei!"
"He'll try to eliminate me first but..." Kakashi trailed off.
"Everyone keep your guard up. This man will do anything to get what he wants, and he will kill whoever gets in his way," I said, my voice trembling. I was terrified that Kakashi would get hurt.
"How can someone do that?!" Sakura asked and I sighed.
"I don't really know myself, but I know he will kill anyone to get his way." I glared towards the spot were Zabuza disappeared. The mist continued to get thicker, so much so that Kakashi was completely covered and I couldn't even see so much as his outline.
"Kakashi!" I gasped, my fear spiking at the thought of being alone with Zabuza.
"Eight points." I gasped, shivering when I hear Zabuza's voice echoing around me. I looked around, trying to pinpoint his voice. "The larynx, spine, lungs, jugular, liver, collarbone, kidney, and heart. Now tell me, which vital organ do you want to be struck at?" Zabuza asked. I look around for any sign of him, but see nothing. Kakashi did something that makes his chakra spike and causing most of the mist around us to clear away. I looked down at Sasuke, whose eyes were wide with fear at the strong aura pouring of Kakashi.
"Sasuke," I muttered. I lay my hand on his shoulder, trying to calm him. Kakashi turned to face us, smiling.
"Don't worry. I'll protect the four of you with my life," Kakashi said, smiling at us. He opened his scarred eye and his gaze rested on me. I smiled weakly before clutching back onto my sword. I hold his gaze for awhile before he turned back. I noticed Sakura looking from the two of us, but I say nothing. "I won't let anyone on my team die."
"I don't know about that," Zabuza said. I spun around, only to see him behind me. He looked up at me and smirked through the bandages around his face. "Hello, Aira. It's nice to see you again," He said, laughing, then he swung his sword. I pushed everyone out of the way, and stabbed him in the gut about the same time Kakashi did with a kunai, but instead of blood, water trickles out of his wounds.
"Sensei! Behind you!" Naruto yelled.
"Die!" Zabuza said. Kakashi shoved me to the ground, barely saving my life just as Zabuza's sword slices him in half.
"Kakashi-kun!"
Rest in results
Water fell on me after I screamed, drenching my lower legs. I let out a sigh of relief, but it was short lived. I rolled to my left as Zabuza's freaking meat clever tried to slice me in half. I jumped to my feet and ran at him with my sword, but he disappeared. When he reappeared behind me I spun around, only to find Kakashi behind him with a kunai to his throat.
"I told you I won't let anyone on my team die," Kakashi hissed in his ear. "This is the end for you."
