Someone was shaking me awake.
I opened my eyes slowly, hoping that it was Frankie.
It wasn't, though. It was Dan. I remembered that I was in jail.
"You have to change into a pin-stripped suit," he said, looking down at me.
"Why didn't you do that when I first came in? You guys didn't strip check me, either," I said, wiping my eyes. "Some prison you guys have here."
Dan didn't answer. I stood up, yawning.
I was led into a room, and given a jail suit. I slowly changed into it.
I got out of the room and was led right back to my cell. Dan left the room.
"Looking sexy," said the guy who was in the cell that had talked to me before.
This guy was being a wise-ass with me.
"Leave me alone," I said, sitting down.
"No. I know who you are," said the guy. "I was in the mess hall eating when I saw the report on TV the other day. You're the one who likes little boys, you sick, perverted fag!"
"I'm not perverted!" I yelled. "I'm only eighteen!"
"Pssh. Oh well. You're still a fag. Don't you remember me?"
"No."
"I used to go to the high-school. I graduated two years ago."
I got up from the bed and looked at him as best as I could.
"You're Jimmy Satkowski's older brother," I said. "Eric. I remember you. Why are you here?"
"I stole condoms from the Rite Aid. They weren't even for me."
"Oh, I'm sure they weren't."
I sat back down on the bed.
"You have to be the gayest looking guy I have seen in my whole life," said Eric.
"Yeah, yeah," I said laying down. "If only I had a nickel for every time I heard someone from your family say that."
--
"Gerard!"
I sat up.
In came running Mikey.
"Pssh! You look gay, too!" yelled Eric from his cell. "I don't remember you going to the school. Wait, are you the one who fell while going up to accept his Honor Award?"
Mikey turned red.
"Leave him alone," I said. "Hi, Mikey."
"Hi!" said Mikey.
"Where's Mom and Dad?"
"They didn't want to come in."
"Pssh."
"They are really pissed at you."
"Well I didn't do anything that they are accusing me of. Make sure you tell them that."
"Oh, they know it. In fact, Mom keeps ranting about how you aren't even gay."
I rolled my eyes.
"Wow," said Mikey, "You're really in jail, aren't you?"
"Yup," I said.
"Wow."
"Where's Frankie?"
"Oh...His Mom took him home."
"What are they doing to him?"
"I don't know. I heard them say that they would be back to discuss things with the cops."
"When?"
"I don't know, Gerard! Are we going to be talking about Frank the whole time? Because if we are, I'm leaving!"
I sighed.
"Sorry," I said.
"Anyway," said Mikey, "they set your bail at five-thousand dollars. There is no way Mom and Dad can pay that, so you're stuck here."
"Bail? So I'm going to have a trial after all?"
"Oh, I don't know. I don't think so. I think that's all you need to get out."
I felt like punching the wall.
"I swear, I am going to kill someone when I get out of here," I said.
"Then your ass will be here again!" said Mikey.
"Shut up. How long am I going to be here for?"
"I don't know."
"Thanks for the help Mikey. This is turning out to be a great, informative visit."
"You know, you aren't being nice to me. I had nothing to do with anything. You have no right to be an ass to me. All you care about is Frank! That's it! No wonder you're here! You're practically obsessed with him!"
Mikey left the room.
--
"It's almost time for dinner, Gerard!" Eric called from across the room. "I don't want you sitting near me. I don't want you grabbing my ass."
"Shut up," I exclaimed. "I'm not eating!"
"Ooh! Snappy, snappy! You're a catty little faggot, aren't you?"
"Leave me the fuck alone."XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxX
It was the day after I had been arrested.
I had just gotten back from eating about a half hour before. I was sitting in my cell, listening to Eric snoring from across the room. Though more fit than Jimmy, he still ate like a pig, and it was clear as to what his family had been bred to do: Eat and sleep.
I was looking at the ceiling while laying on my bed, when I had the surprise of my life.
"GERARD!"
I immediately sat up.
Frank was bouncing up and down anxiously outside my cell.
"FRANK!" I exclaimed, smiling.
I ran to the bars. Frank's hands were holding them, and I took his hands through the bars. He put his lips between them as best as he could and I put my lips on his. They could meet a lot easier than I thought they would, but it was hard to kiss him passionately, because the sides of my mouth were hitting the bars. I did what I could, though.
Frank and I were soon able to make it so we could just kiss without the bars interfering. I slid my hands through the bars as best as I could, and held his waist.
We kissed as best as we could for a long time. When we stopped, I removed my hands from between the bars back into the cell with me.
Frank whimpered slightly.
"I'm so sorry, Gee," he said.
"For what? You didn't do anything wrong," I said.
"I know baby, but it's still my fault that you're here."
"No it's not, Frankie."
Tears still started to roll down Frank's face.
"Don't cry, Frankie," I said, "You'll make me start crying."
"I can't help it, Gee," said Frankie. "If it weren't for me you wouldn't be in there. If you are mad at me and want to break-up, I understand."
"I'd never break-up with you, Frank. That would be a real stupid thing for me to do. I'd never do that."
"But I'm the reason you're in there!"
"No you're not. You're my sweet little angel, that's what you are. Neither of us did anything wrong."
"I know. I told them that, too. It's all my stupid Mother's fault and her boyfriend. They think that you kidnapped me. They also think that you raped me."
"But I didn't."
"I know, but that's my fault, too! I said 'rape' and they took that as a guilty conscience, saying that we had sex."
"We didn't though. As long as we know that we didn't, that's all that matters."
"That would be an okay explanation if we were in high school and a rumor was going around about us having sex, Gee. It isn't, though. We're dealing with the law, here."
"I know that, baby. They can take a DNA test on me if they want. I don't care. That can prove that I wasn't...Uh...In you at all."
"They would have to take the test on me, then. I mean think about it. If you raped me, you would be going into me, and...Yeah...So they would have to do the test on me."
"That's true."
"I think that's a good idea, Gee. I can ask them if they'll do that. That will help you out a lot."
"I know...God. I'm so embarrassed. I must look really stupid in this outfit behind bars," I said.
"You don't look stupid," said Frank. "You look cute. I feel still feel bad, though. I hate seeing you like this."
"Because I look stupid, right?"
"No! You don't look stupid at all."
Frank put his lips by the bars and I put my lips on his and we kissed.
"EW! That's fuckin' disgusting!" I heard Eric yell from across the room.
Frank abruptly pulled away and looked over at him.
Eric got out of his bed and pressed his body against the bars of his cell.
"DAN! There are two fags kissing in here!" he screamed.
"It's okay, baby. Just ignore him," I said to Frank.
Frank looked at me again and nodded.
"Come here," I said softly to him, pulling his chin so his lips could meet mine again.
"OH MY GOD THAT IS SO GROSS!!!!!!!!!!" screamed Eric, pulling at the bars of his cell.
Frank seemed uncomfortable, so I stopped kissing him.
"He's an ass hole," I said softly to Frank. "Just ignore him."
Frank nodded.
"Pull that chair over in front of the cell, baby," I said, pointing to a chair next to the door of the room. "I don't want you standing."
Frank went over to the chair and brought it over.
"You two faggots better keep your lips to yourself!" called Eric. "I don't want to see that shit! I wake up from a nice nap and the first thing I see is you two over there-!"
"Leave us alone!" I yelled over.
Frank sat down on the chair. I pulled the chair that was in my cell over as far as it could go and sat down on it. Frank took my hand from between the bars.
"I'm so glad that the spaces are big enough so we can have contact," said Frankie.
"Me too," I said. "I can't wait to get out of here. I have no idea how long I'm stuck here for."
"Well, my Mom and John were talking to this guy, and he said that if I said that you raped me, you will have to go to trial along with the kidnapping charges, and then you could be in here for life. However, I insisted that you didn't do anything wrong, so it's basically my Mom and John's stubbornness that's keeping you in here."
"That's so retarded! Did they not hear you say that I didn't do anything?"
"They did, but it's my Mom and John that don't believe me. John said that in sexual abuse cases, the victim usually loves their abuser and refuses to admit that they did anything."
I stared at Frank.
"That's not fair," I said. "They know for a fact that you love me because they know that we're dating. They are going to use that excuse against me and it's going to look really bad."
"I know," said Frank. "Once I get that test done, though, all the rape suspicions will be cleared. That's just something that I mentioned because I thought that that was what they were arresting you for. The cops were suspicious because we had our shirts off, and so they were assuming that's what was wrong."
"I know. They still might get me on dating you because you're a minor and I'm eighteen."
"Well actually, that's where that whole consent thing comes in. Plus, they aren't really concerned about it because like I have told you so many times, you're only eighteen. If you were forty and I was the same age that I am now, there'd be reason for concern. You are only eighteen though, Gerard, and I told them that I was the one who asked you out first. So basically, you're really not in trouble for that at all. My Mom just called the cops and said that John had heard you to order me in the car, and of course because they don't approve of us dating, they made it seem a lot worse than it actually is."
"Then baby, why were you upset that you had mentioned the word 'rape' to the cops before?"
"Because, Gerard, that was before you suggested that I get some sort of test done."
"Oh...Well I still don't think it's fair that I'm stuck here because your Mom and her boyfriend are pricks."
"Don't worry, baby. I'm going to get you out of here. I'll tell them everything I can to prove that you didn't kidnap me or anything. I'm not going to let anything happen to you. I still feel really bad, though, and I'm not certain if all of the things I'm telling you is going to work out the way we want it to."
"I know, babe. Don't feel bad, though. Neither of us did anything wrong. I love you so much. You're the love of my life and if I have to rot in a jail cell for the rest of my life because of it, I will."
"I love you too, Gee-"
"Could you two cut the lovey-dovey shit?!" yelled Eric from across the room.
"Shut the hell up!" I screamed over at him.
"No! You people are fuckin' sick!"
I ignored him.
"Well, I better go, baby," said Frankie.
"No. Don't go just because that idiot over there is a homophobic ass hole," I said.
"It's not just that, baby. Bob and Ray are here, and they want to see you, too. I'm sure they don't want to see you at the same time as me."
"You're right. I wouldn't pay any attention to them all."
Frank smiled.
"Wait a second though, baby," I said. "Where are you staying right now?"
"Oh, I'm staying with my Grandfather. I don't want to stay with my Mom," said Frank.
"Good. I'm glad you're not staying there. Who brought you here?"
"I walked."
"Okay, baby. I'm going to have Bob or Ray drive you home. I don't want you walking to your Grandfather's house alone. I'm too nervous."
"Okay. I'll wait out in the waiting room thing, then."
"Alright. When I'm done talking to Bob and Ray, I want you to come back in here so I can say good-bye to you."
"Okay."
Frank stood up and so did I.
I kissed him as best as I could through the bars. Eric must have been laying down or something, so he didn't yell anything at us.
"I love you," I said to Frank.
"I love you too," Frank replied.
I kissed him a little while longer and then Frank left. I watched him as he did and I realized how much I hated being away from him.
"Oh good," I heard Eric say, sitting up. "Your faggot boyfriend is gone. One faggot down, one to go."
"Shut up, Eric," I said. "I don't like being here any more than you like having me here, and you don't have to worry, because I am going to get out of here very soon."
