Chapter Nine: Decieve The Liar
Daunte watched Tiffany's running figure, her innocent physique, as her brown hair flowed behind her. He could have despised Riley as much as he could, because he was putting a beautiful newborn in danger, and he never warned Tiffany of their consequence they must face if anyone found out.
Daunte couldn't despise Riley though; Riley was his only family, his only companion.
There, standing in the shadows, was Valorise. Daunte gazed ahead to face the dangerous vampire. Valorise started to walk closer to Daunte, as he held his head up to the sky, and his black haired stayed perfectly still even though the wind was strong today. He left his footprints in the white snow.
"Daunte, my friend," Valorise called as if they were long lost friends who happened to meet up accidentally one snowy day.
Daunte forced a cheery smile.
"Valorise, it's been almost twenty decades since we've last met up," Daunte replied, giving the vampire his hand to shake. Valorise shook. "How have you been holding up?"
Valorise faked an irritated sigh.
"Can't complain, my friend, I can't complain," he answered. "I've been doing what every vampire should be doing. Hunting, moving from one place to the other, and keeping my daring eyes on those who have the nerve to break the principles."
Daunte laughed nervously.
"Yes, of course, your daring eyes are everywhere," he said with a tense grin. "I almost forgot how cunning you are."
Valorise allowed his cloak to swiftly move around with the wind before replying to Daunte's words.

"Well, what can you expect, Daunte? I am rightly the first longest living vampire on this hell, and the principles have to be obeyed to keep us vampires a secret," he replied with a laugh.
Daunte shook his head in disagreement.
"Aren't you forgetting Kingslit? He helped you make the decision of this afterlife, and I know you will never forget that," he said cautiously.
Valorise let out an evil laugh of glee.
"Kingslit? He was never fit enough to become one of us. Correct, he did help me make this magnificent decision, but I was the one who put actions in," he answered honestly. "I was glad when I finally dragged that stake through his damned heart. He never deserved this life."
Daunte froze for a second or two, before his brain kicked back into action.
"You destroyed him?" he asked in shock. Through all of those decades since he had known Kingslit and Valorise, he had never known them to hate each other. In truth, they were what a best friend could be called.
Valorise nodded with pleasure.
"Yes, and with no regrets felt," he proclaimed. "He wanted everyone to give him the credit I so rightly deserved. He got in my way too often. Every vampire greeted him as if it was Kingslit who had the idea of the principles. So I killed him."
Daunte exhaled slowly in surprise.
"Well, I guess that tells me only one thing, Valorise," he said with all truths.
Valorise lifted his head and looked directly at Daunte and laughed.
"What's that now?" he asked.
Daunte grinned.
"I should never steal your recognition," he answered teasingly, with a hint of edge in his tone.
Valorise joined in the laughter. He never noticed the edgy tone.
"You should keep that in mind and spread the word, Daunte," he warned after his glee of laughing. "Speaking of Kingslit, have you yet got a companion of your own? You do know hunting with a companion is less dangerous, don't you? You never know who's treacherous soul is out there."
Daunte nodded.
"Yes, I do have a companion, Valorise. Read my mind and you will understand about him," he answered confidently.
Valorise closed his eyes and focused. Daunte heard Valorise's voice, heard his thoughts in searching his mind. Daunte shifted the secret from outside his mind, and cast it aside. After a minute or maybe a fraction of two, Valorise opened his eyes, and smiled.
"Riley Foster. I knew his grandfather, before he got shot in the kidney. I don't seem to know Riley though," Valorise said. "He's only young, Daunte, so you say just one decade? He's virtually still a newborn, so keep on the watch, Daunte. If there's something you need to tell me, don't hesitate to do so. If I hear you and him are keeping something from me, then you will be in as much trouble as he will be. Be cautious, my friend."
Daunte nodded understandingly, and with that, Valorise turned around, and stalked off, leaving Daunte with those words of warning, as he contemplated his actions. He loved Riley, but did he love him enough to put his own life in danger?

..........
Riley walked across the river which hid shyly in the forest, dodging the frozen liquid as he jumped from one stone to the other. Once Riley finally reached the other side of the river, he placed his foot on the snowy land, and walked through trees and moved swiftly passed lurking animals.
He had waited patiently and impatiently for his new-found forbidden lover, but her presence never appeared. Not being able to wait any longer, and sensing strongly that something was not right, Riley decided to find Tiffany himself. Riley had never seen Tiffanys hideout, but he had heard about it, and he knew precisely where it happened to be.
Riley had mulled over Daunte's warning about not seeing Tiffany a thousand times before, but he had never taken it to heart, but then again he never wanted to take it to heart, because he didn't want to face the complications of the situation.
Then suddenly as he stopped, Riley lifted his head to be unexpectedly met by a massive overpowering waterfall. Riley smiled as relief flooded over him. Tiffany must have been in there, already awaiting his arrival.
Riley sprinted eagerly, and climbed the big rocks, until there he stood, at the entrance which was hidden behind the waterfall itself.
"Tiffany," Riley called making sure that his musical voice echoed throughout the cave, but he got no answer.
The young male vampire stepped fully inside, and his eyes darted around the cave. "Tiffany Lake, if your presence lingers here, show yourself to me please."
He got no reply back, but instead he saw her. There Tiffany sat on the ground, her legs tucked protectively against her chest, with her pale arms wrapped around her legs. She looked distressed.
Riley slowly strolled over to the beautiful vampire, and sat besides her. He placed his cold fingers over Tiffany's cheek, but Tiffany shuddered away from his touch.
Riley fell back dejectedly.
"What's wrong, my sweet butterfly?" he asked softly. He was concerned.
Tiffany allowed her eyes to glare madly at Riley, before she spoke.
"You knew, Riley, and yet you allowed us to kiss. You were never even planning on warning me," she hissed through extreme anger.
"I want to understand what you are speaking off, Tiffany, but I can't," Riley replied. He wasn't really confused by Tiffany's words; he understood perfectly.
Tiffany inhaled sharply in frustration. She lowered her voice into a whisper to make sure there were no eavesdroppers.
"You knew it is illegal, Riley. What we stupidly did was beyond wrong," she croaked angrily. "You should have warned me."
Riley stroked Tiffany's cheek for comfort, but again Tiffany shrugged him away.
"Don't you dare lay your poisonous hands on me," she threatened.
Riley sighed.
"You've spoken to Daunte, haven't you?" he questioned. He knew Daunte was planning on talking to Tiffany, and so why was Riley least expecting her anger?
Tiffany nodded numbly at Riley's question.
Riley pulled himself closer to Tiffany.
"You'll soon realise that being a vampire has a lot of pathetic laws, but every vampire has to take at least one risk," Riley explained - that was what he truthfully believed with all his dead heart.
Tiffany shook her head in frantic worry.
"But Riley, I want to carry on existing," she proclaimed. "This is too much of a big risk for me. I'm frightened."
Riley laughed, but it wasn't a laugh of cruel mockery, instead it was a laugh of listening to Tiffany's innocence and honesty.
"Oh, my butterfly, don't be frightened for I am here for you," he said. "I always will be."
Tiffany gazed and looked into his golden eyes, and exhaled.
"What exactly are we doing?" she asked suddenly.
This time, Riley had no idea what Tiffany was speaking off. He buckled up his brain and tried to make sense of her question.
"Pardon?" he asked.
"Us. We kissed once, but what does that action mean? Are we in love with one another?" Tiffany questioned.
Riley placed his chillingly cold lips upon hers, and he kissed them so delicately. Tiffany couldn't resist and so she kissed back sweetly.
Riley soon pulled away.
"I don't know about you, but I am no doubt in love with you, Tiffany," he replied back sincerely.
Tiffany smiled as if she had already dismissed her question with the kiss they had just shared.
Once their kissing session was over, Tiffany leaned back in his arms, and sighed.
"Riley, do you ever miss your parents now that you're dead?" she asked such a personal question she wasn't sure if Riley would have answered. She was proven wrong.
Riley shrugged angelically.
"I miss my mother, though she was thankfully already dead before I died," he replied truthfully. "I don't think she would have survived if she watched me go first. For that I am grateful."
Tiffany looked up at her vampire lover, perplexed.
"How about your father? Don't you miss him?" she asked curiously.
Riley shook his head and laughed.
"Not a chance, my love," he sneered. "I wish it were him that was cast out of this world, not my mother. He deserved his death, Melissa didn't. She sacrificed her own life for her son."
Tiffany nodded understandingly, then she abruptly decided to steer the conversation away from Riley's past life.
"I miss my mother and father," she then cursed herself cruelly for not steering the conversation away completely.
Riley turned towards the entrance of the cave, and outside was snowing deeply. The white snow covered the ground so prettily it felt as if today was Christmas eve, but it wasn't, they had five more days to count down.
This is a new life, Riley thought. It was a much better life now Tiffany lay in his presence right before his eyes, unaware of their secret was about to be leaked out.
"Let's not be remembered of our lost past life, we've got our own life now," Riley stated sincerely.
Tiffany nodded, and she smiled.
"Even with the big risk of someone finding out the truth, it won't matter because we'll face hell together."
*
Daunte paced the metre of his cave up and down, as he awaited Riley's arrival. He anxiously tried his best to escape Valorise's words, and he had decided to keep true to his younger companion. Yes, he had decided to not reveal their secret, but he would do everything he possibly could do to keep Riley and Tiffany away from one other.
There was only one way of doing that.
Minutes or maybe hours later, Riley came through the entrance with a grin on his perfect face.
Daunte strolled over to him.
"I don't care what you say, Riley, but we are moving to Paris," he stated. "I've got your passport sorted out, and we are catching the four oclock airplane."
Riley stood frozen.
"What?" he asked. "We can't go, Daunte. I have a life here."
"A life which will soon end if we don't leave now," he rose his voice angrily. "Valorise is in town. I saw him. As minutes go by, he will get the scent of your secret. I can't let that happen."
Riley shook his head.
"I'm not going to Paris, and least of all, not now," he said.
Daunte glared at Riley with anger.
"Yes you are going to Paris, because I am not going to stand around and watch you throw your damned life away!" he roared.
With that, he dragged Riley away, and out of the entrance, as they left their cave.
"What will happen to Tiffany?" he asked, as Daunte finally released Riley from his grip.
"I don't know, but I'm sure she's strong enough to survive on her own," he said. "Say goodbye to London, Riley, because this will be the last time we will ever see the place."
Riley bowed his head. He never said goodbye, because he silently promised himself he will return as soon as he could.
