Zack sat in a quiet state throughout the entire practice. He couldn't help but be curious about what was happening between Kendyl and Alex. He knew there was something suspicious, but niether of them would say anything to him.
"I'm tired of doing the same songs over and over again," Jack complained. "Let's try to write our own song."
Kendyl was pressing random buttons on her phone while everything was happening. Zack didn't mind that she tagged along, but after being related to her for a full two weeks, he was getting sick of her.
"Hey Kendyl?" he asked.
She pressed a few more buttons on her phone before looking up at him.
"Do you want to take my car and go to the mall or something?" he suggested.
Kendyl shook her head and said, "No, I like listening to you play."
Zack's eyes happened to shift to Alex, and he saw that there was a certain sadness in the gleam of his eye. He had to know what was going on. "Alex could you show me where your bathroom is?"
Alex's eyes left Kendyl and darted towards Zack. "You're kidding, right?"
"I forgot," Zack shrugged.
Alex sighed and shut the book he was writing in. "Come on."
Zack followed him and began to collect the questions he planned to ask Alex in his mind.
Kendyl continued to text Laura after Alex and Zack left. She shifted uncomfortably as she felt Jack and Rian staring at her. After a few awkward moments of silence, she looked up from her phone. "Yes?"
Jack smiled, "Whatcha doin'?"
Kendyl connected her brows in confusion before smiling back and saying, "Textin'."
"Did you know Alex before you met him yesterday?" Rian asked.
She finished the message and put her phone away. "I guess you could say that."
"How?" Jack asked.
She shrugged. "I just did."
The two boys shrugged and Jack picked up the notebook Alex was writing in, flipping to the marked page. "Let's see what Alex is up to now." He cleared his throat and began to read the lyrics. "Inquisitive and thoughtful, she was the challenge he'd been waiting for. A reminder that creativity runs deep like secrets. Dark eyed dreamers, they were a dangerous pair. Q next to U scribbled out on paper. They stop, they go, they're done."
Kendyl listened intently to what Jack was saying and smiled to herself. She was getting into Alex's mind, and she could feel it.
"There it is," Alex pointed to the bathroom for Zack.
"Thanks," Zack said. Alex began to walk back downstairs when Zack stopped him. "Hey, what's up between you and Kendyl?"
Alex didn't look up, but shrugged in response. "Nothing."
Zack tilted his head. "It doesn't seem like nothing. Ever since you two met yesterday there's been this wierd and very noticable vibe between you two. Like, some sort of uncomfortableness." Alex still didn't answer. "Did something happen between you two that I don't know about?" Zack asked.
Alex glanced at Zack and nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, something did happen."
"What?" Zack said with an anxious tone.
Alex shook his head. "It's nothing. Kendyl and I talked about it, and what happened is in the past. There's no need in bringing up bad memories."
"But she's my sister and I think I have the right to know-"
"Maybe you do, but you have no right working me up over this. You got all you'll get out of me, and that's more than what you'll get out of her. For your sanity and everyone else's, let it go."
