Mike Carden involuntarily jerked as his name was called, followed by a girl's name.
Codi Young...that sounded familiar.
Then it hit him: she was in his Art History class, Chemistry class, and Gym class.
And then it hit him again: she sat behind him in this class.
Mike turned around in his seat and faced the unhappy looking girl with chocolate colored hair tucked behind her ears and frosty blue eyes deep in thought.
She was kinda pretty...
Mike felt his heart rate speed up as he opened his mouth to say something to her.
-----------------------------------------------------
"Hey, you're Codi right?" A voice asked, breaking my train of thought.
I blinked a couple of times and looked up, right into those light brown eyes once again.
"Uh yeah, why?" I asked stupidly.
It was his turn to blink.
"Um, I'm Mike and we're working together...?" He more asked then told me, looking confused for a second. "Or did I hear that wrong?"
I snapped out of my daze and let out a laugh, blushing at my stupidity.
"Oh, sorry. No, you heard him right; we're working together."
I mentally slapped myself over and over as Mike stood up and sat down in Alice's seat next to me, with a dirt scrap piece of paper in hand.
I hoped he didn't expect me to write on that...or turn it in.
"Ok, well I don't really know why all the countries in the world are fighting each other." Mike started, scratching his forehead and looking a little bored.
"You don't?" I asked skeptically, narrowing my eyes a bit.
Was he one of those guys who slept through class and never paid attention to anything teachers had to say? If so, this was not going to be a fun class period...
"No, other than the fact that Germany is the bad guy."
I couldn't help it; I laughed.
Explaining a whole months worth of notes to Mike in the short time we were working together was difficult, seeing as he kept making me laugh with his odd statements and questions.
I felt oddly at ease with him, for some reason.
'Eh, thanks for trying anyway. I think leaned more from you in those fifteen minutes than from Mr. Peeler." Mike said smiling at me as we gathered our things to leave for lunch.
I shrugged modestly and grinned.
"No problem, Mike."
"Hey, I'll see you later in Art History, ok?" Mike said loudly as we started walking in opposite ways down the crowded hallways.
I nodded, confused for a minute.
He was in my Art History class? Since when?
It seemed, now, that I would have noticed if Mike was in any of my classes. I guess not.
-------------------------------------------------------
Alice giggled at William's joke, neither of them doing their history assignment.
"So anyway, you and Tom, huh?" William said, changing the subject completely.
Alice blushed and nodded.
"Since last night." She said happily, smiling to herself.
Alice couldn't believe she had only started noticing Tom since last week. If she had known he was this completely amazing and sweet, she would have been after him a long time ago.
William smiled at her, but his eyes slid past her head after a moment and his face soured.
Alice frowned and looked behind her, seeing that William was looking over at Codi and the guy she was working with, or rather, laughing with.
At first, Alice smiled at her friend, glad she wasn't having a terrible time, but then she narrowed her eyes and looked back at William.
"Do you have a problem with Codi?" She asked dangerously, thinking William was glaring at her.
She was going to stand up for her friend whether William was Tom's friend or not.
The guy looked caught off guard.
"Codi? No, but the guy she's working with is a jerk-off."
Alice looked back around and this time, she studied the black, messy-haired guy her best friend was talking to.
Hmm...
