"So we're kind of still on tour," Gerard announced, though it wasn't necessary, I could plainly see the gigantic black bus parked right in front of us.
"And we're kind of pigs," Frank said...well...frankly.
"Good to know...I'm probably gonna have to clean it though. Ms. Davidson always tells me I have OCD," I shrugged and then jumped about ten feet as the doors hissed open.
"Our own personal slave. Yes!" Bob joked.
Where do you go after a comment like that? Up the stairs and onto the bus, if you please. And if you must know, yes I did trip on my way up. Humph.
I was shown my bunk. It was on the very top.
"Awesome," I said sarcastically, failing in my attempt to scramble up the wall like Spider Girl. "I can't get up there."
"Well, all of us ended up falling out," Mikey shrugged.
"So you give it to me, thank-you," I rolled my eyes and shot-put-ed my bag into the bunk, grabbing the curtain and using it to hoist myself up. "Yep, it's official. I'll be dead before the end of next week."
"Someone could trade if you want." Gerard hedged, uncertainly.
"Nah," I waved the idea off, "I like danger." I grinned wickedly. "But...where are the closets?"
"There aren't any." Ray said.
"What?! Where do you expect me to keep all this stuff? In my magical Mary Poppins bag?"
"I know!" Frank bounced a bit in his excitement, "I'll keep it in my kangaroo pouch!"
"We'll find somewhere for it. We can keep it on Mikey's bed. He'll sleep on the couch." Bob teased, flicking Mikey's ear.
The guys left to let me get situated but Gerard stayed, watching me as he leaned against the doorway.
I set the picture frame that held my only photo of my parents against the wall and smiled softly at it, kissing my fingertips and setting them on the one thing that helped me remember what ma mere et mon pere looked like.
"It's not the same," I said softly, pulling Henry the hippo out of my bag and crushing him against my chest, wishing he gave me the same comfort now as he did when I was a child, "It's not the same as having my parents back. I thought it could be, but it can't," choking sobs rose in my throat and with and anguished cry the waterworks started.
Gerard seemed stunned. One moment I was happy as a clam and the next I was losing it. Unsure of what to do, he hesitantly hoisted himself up into the bunk and wrapped his arms around me.
"Uh...well...I'm not going to try to replace your parents...but...if there's any room...would you find it possible to reserve a spot of my own in your heart?"
I thought about it for a second. "Seems reasonable." I shrugged. "Kiss the hippo." I held Henry up to his lips.
"What?" he cringed away from the stuffed hippo-pot-of-moose.
"Seal the deal," I insisted, "Kiss the hippo!" his apprehension remained. "Hes bi." I whispered to Gerard so that Henry couldn't hear out his tiny little curved ears.
One side of Gerard's mouth pulled down at the side and he knitted his eyebrows, leaning in ever so slowly and brushing his lips against Henry's soft threaded mouth.
I was blinded by the flash of a camera and Franks giggling rang in my ears, high and clear.
"You cheated on me with a hippo!" he wailed in fake hysterics.
"Who, Bob?" Mikey poked his head in the door.
"I am not a hippo!" Bob yelled, pretending to cry.
