I want to introduce you to one of the coolest guys in the universe; Neekhone Hendricks. Better known as Neek.
He's just about one of the best guys this shabby world has to offer. He's the only guy I can even talk to, hell, he's the only guy that I've ever looked at without blushing. And I am proud to call him my best friend.
I don't babble like a fool around him, I don't get sweaty and nervous and talk about embarrassing things. No, when I'm around Mr. Hendricks I'm anything but a moron, I'm myself and he's the only one who knows the real me.
The only problem is, he's having a hard time relating to my baby-sitting problem.
"This is going to suck!" I complained throwing my hands in the air and falling back on my bed. "My social life is ruined."
"How is it ruined?" Neek asked, as he began to twirl around in my computer chair. "I think I'm going to be sick."
I sat up and looked at the short boy in front of me. "It just is. I mean when I come back to school all the kids are going to be like 'how was the tour with a bunch of five year olds-did you meet Barney?'"
"Don't you think you're overreacting just a bit?" Neek asked spinning a little faster. "nobody is going to say that to you."
"Whose side are you on anyways?" I growled as I pulled my dirty blonde hair into a ponytail.
"Nobodies. The point is Renee, that people support your sister and wont make fun of you for supporting her to."
"You do know I'm leaving in an hour right?" I said unsure as I swiftly stood up.
"What?" Neek quickly sprang out of the chair only to trip over his own feet and land on the ground with a loud thud.
"I thought I told you that Neek." I said folding my arms across my chest. "besides why would I call you over to my house at eight in the morning, you know I'm not much of a morning person."
Neek frowned as he pushed himself up and looked at me sadly. It's funny how I'm taller then him, almost by a foot actually.
"I don't know, I knew something was up I guess." He replied giving me a small shrug. "Do you want me to help load your things?"
"Sure." I said as I grabbed one of my suitcases and handed it to him. I quickly grabbed my duffle bag and we headed down the stairs. "Thanks."
"No problem." He replied trying to be careful with my belongings. "Do we need to help your sister as well?"
"I suppose." I said unsure. "She's not strong enough to carry anything really."
Neek gave me a half smirk as he stepped off the last step. "So your flight takes off at ten?"
"Yeah, we should land in L.A. around twelve, I'll call you when I get there." I told him honestly as we dragged my things out to my mothers mini van.
"Good. You know how I worry." Neek half joked with me, but I knew that he did worry. He was almost like a brother to me. Even Jamie saw Neek that way, which is great.
I looked at my small house before putting my duffle bag in the back of the van. "Let's go see if Holly and Clarie need our help."
Neek stretched his arms, letting out a large sigh. "It's disappointing Marla didn't show up to see you off."
I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "You didn't even know I was leaving today, how do you expect her to know?"
"You didn't even tell us when you were leaving. Besides Marla is dense." Neek said flashing me a toothy grin. "Remember how she forgot that it was her birthday last month?"
I giggled. "How can I forget. She kept telling us it wasn't her birthday. Her poor parents had to bring out the baby photos, and the birth certificate."
We love Marla to bits, but she is an airhead. She's fun though, and doesn't really get on your nerves unless you're really impatient.
"Maybe we should call her?" I suggested as I turned to head back into my house but Neek put his hand on my shoulder, stopping me.
"I don't think we need to."
"Wha-" I began but heard the loud roar of an engine, music blasting from the speakers loudly.
It's easy to notice these things when you live on a very quiet, old person, street. And there is only one person I know who blasts her music so loud that people in Canada can hear it.
"Speak of the devil." I grinned as I watched the dust cloud forming as she zoomed up my dirt road driveway. "Do you know why she's here?"
"Maybe she isn't as dense as we thought?" Neek suggested as Marla's red corvette came to a screechy halt.
I couldn't help but give Neek a blank stare. "That's like saying penguins can fly."
"Ahh!" Marla screamed loudly as she climed out of her car, slamming it shut behind her, only to have her dress-shirt get snagged in the door, causing her to fall backwards.
"You okay?" I ran towards her quickly, Neek right behind me. Him and I are used to things like this happening. She's the girl who breaks her high-heel and falls backwards, the one who walks in the 'slippery' zone and ends up falling on the floor and skidding a good five feet.
You got it, Marla Mendoza is a klutz.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine!" Marla said waving my helping hands away as she stood up and opened her car door to release her shirt.
"That was quite the nasty fall." Neek commented as the tan girl dusted her self off and fixed her light brown hair.
"Eh, I've had worse." She replied simply as she slipped her yellow purse back up on her shoulder. Yes, Miss Mendoza is a big time fashion 'diva' as she likes to be called.
She has the cutest purses and the coolest clothes (clothes I'd never wear, because let's face it, I'm not as bold as her.) And the biggest collection of shoes I've ever seen.
"What are you doing here?" I asked leaning from one foot to another.
Marla's pink lips formed into a smirk and she flung her hands around me, yanking me into a tight hug. "You're leaving me! I wouldn't of even known, thank god Clarie and Holly called me."
"Claire and Holly called you?" I asked my green eyes looking at her questioningly. "How did they even get your number?"
Marla simply shrugged before digging into her purse pulling out a stick of gum and plopping it into her mouth.
Neek and I both agree, and I'm sure you would to, that Marla shouldn't chew gum in public. She smacks, loudly, and blows bubbles every five minutes. Sure it would look cute if you took a picture of the large bubble that the fashion princess is blowing. Hell it'd probably look like it was meant for a magazine. But the fact of the matter is that Marla shouldn't have gum.
Half the times she chocks on it and ends up swallowing it or spits into someone's hair. (Thank goodness I befriended her.)
I looked at Neek who scrunched his face in disgust, but I knew he wouldn't say anything; he never does.
"So. . You want to help me and Neek get Claries bags?" I asked her, all ready knowing the answer.
"Pfft," Marla cracked a grin before blowing a bubble. "I thought you knew me."
"I do, just wanted to see if somehow you've changed." I linked arms with Neek then with Marla. "Nice to know you haven't.
"Do they really need our help, I honestly just want to like hang out before you leave, not help your sister."
"Stop being lazy Marla." Neek demanded some what as we entered my small house.
"All pretty people are supposed to be lazy." Marla made a popping noise with her mouth. "But you wouldn't know that would you."
Neek rolled his eyes but let a small smile slid onto his face.
Now don't think Marla is a total bitch. She just kids that way. I've grown used to it, and so has Neek. You guys can probably tell why Marla isn't my best friend.
Sure she's nice to talk to, like about guys. But I never tell her anything to personal; I save my personal thoughts for Jamie and Neek.
Even though I'm not all that personal with them either.
"Hey booger." Marla greeted as she walked into my sisters bed flopping down on Claries' bed. "Good luck on the whole tour."
"Thank you." Clarie replied as she laid an outfit on the ground, Holly looking for a pair of shoes to match.
"You're not planning on wearing that are you?" I asked eyeing the short skirt and skin tight shirt.
Marla shifted on the bed and looked down at the clothes. "Oh cute! I have a skirt almost just like that, but mines darker."
I sent a glare to Marla who looked at me innocently.
"Thank you; and yes I'm planning on wearing this." Clarie said walking over to her full length mirror and started to examine her face.
"Don't you think it's a little um, well short and tight?" I asked tugging on my sweater.
"No." Marla and Clarie answered together.
"I have to agree with your sister, you'll look a little sluttish." Neek said awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.
"It's not sluttish." Holly butted in as she flipped a red lock of hair over her shoulder. "It makes her look slender, and more grown up."
I narrowed my eyes at the little red head in front of me. "She can't wear that, I don't care how much older she looks in it, my sister is not going to be running around looking like a tramp."
"I'm sorry I want to actually look good for the Jonas Brothers." Clarie shot back. Holly sighed at the mention of the oh so wonderful Jonas Brothers.
I wasn't sure how to reply to something like that. It was just so harsh I guess. I mean my sister has never really insulted me like that before, usually her insults are minor.
"We leave in an hour." I replied sourly before turning on my heel and brushed by Neek quickly.
I'm embarrassed. Embarrassed that my younger sister just insulted me and I had no come back.
How lame am I?
I walked down the hall and into my tidy room, I have a neat organization problem. It's not that bad, I mean I defiantly can be messy, but I can't eat somewhere where there is food all over the floor or the counter, or even the seats. It drives me crazy, but I try to ignore it half the time.
I walked over to the mirror and glanced at my reflection. I'm not exactly plain looking, I mean I'm no Jessica Alba or Tyra Banks, but still I did have a few good qualities; I guess?
My sister got lucky when It came to the genes. Her light brown long hair makes her green eyes stand out against her perfection complection.
Where however I look like my father and Jamie. Dirty blonde hair, green eyes, sometimes acne problem if I stress out to much. Yeah, I look like a typical teen I guess.
"Hey, why'd you leave?" Marla stumbled into my room, Neek right behind her.
I turned and looked at my friends awkwardly. "Do you think I'm ugly?"
"No." They both chimed in with a bored tone. Marla sat down on my computer chair before Neek could.
"I think this is why Nathan Stine doesn't like me, I'm to plain." I said leaning into my mirror for a closer look.
"He doesn't like you because you don't talk. And every time he tries to talk to you you always ramble on about dogs and dolphins or something crazy like that." Neek said falling back on my bed.
"Oh remember when he asked her for a pencil and she started to talk about big foot, oh gee I thought I was going to pee my pants!" Marla started to giggle.
"Har-har, Funny~" I groaned pulling away from the mirror. "What do think of my outfit?"
I began to spin around in a circle. "Eh, it's not that bad." Neek said not exactly looking at me.
"Well, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that, but that's just me." Marla said and began to blow another large bubble.
I looked down at my outfit. Marla was right she'd never be caught dead wearing this. Dark jeans, converse, dark red shirt, topped with a slightly baggy gray zip up hoodie that I had stolen from Jamie.
It wasn't that bad.
"Renee, we're leaving in ten." Jamie said popping into my room causing Marla to jump and blush with embarrassment.
She has a crush on him. A crush on Jamie; yuck!
"Hi Jamie." Marla greeted giving my brother a wink.
My brother smiled and nodded his head. "Grab your things we're leaving to the airport."
And with that he disappeared out of the room and down the stairs.
"He is so cute!" Marla squealed jumping out of my chair only to twist her ankle and collapse to the ground. "I'm seriously falling for him."
"That was a lame pun." Neek grinned as he got up and helped Marla off the ground.
We didn't say anything as we walked down the hall then down the stairs. I gave my father a tight hug wishing that I didn't have to leave him.
My father and I aren't that close, but the thought of leaving is some what nerve wracking. I've only been to L.A. once and that was to watch my sister record a few of her songs for her CD.
"Bye dad." I said finally letting go of him. My father didn't saying anything just patted me on the back and let me go out front. He's a man of a few words I guess.
"Come on." My mom said as she got into the car. Jamie sat on the passengers side as Clarie slid the van door open and climbed in.
I wrapped my arms around Marla and pulled Neek into a group hug. I was fighting back tears, I didn't want to leave these guys, especially not Neek, he is after all, my best friend.
"Come on Renee." Clarie chanted as she hopped in her seat. "We need to go, we're going to miss our flight because of you!"
I pulled away only to realize Marla was crying. The one thing about Marla is that she never cries. Unless you spill orange juice on her new outfit, but usually after the crying she punches you and you forget that a single tear even touched that face.
"Keep in touch." Neek said patting his back pocket where his phone was. "It's going to be odd going through the rest of summer without you."
"It's going to be weirder when we go to school and you're not there." Marla interjected. "You can't leave me here with Neekhone!"
"Hey!"
"Nothing personal babe, but I need a girl to be there with me so it doesn't seem like I'm a total whore."
"Okay." I closed my eyes tightly trying not to laugh. "Drop the whole whore thing Marla, because you defiantly aren't one."
Marla's perfectly waxed eyebrows rose so high I thought they were going to fly off her head. "Do you not know how many guys I've slept with?"
"You haven't slept with me." Jason butted in.
"That's because you're like a brother to me, and well it'd just be to gross."
"Nice to know." Jason grinned. "The feeling is mutual."
"Okay guys, I'll defiantly keep in touch, I'll e-mail and text." I said as I hopped into the van.
I gave them a short wave before closing the vans sliding door.
And then I was off.
Yes, no maybe so?
Vote, pick, message, banners?
