**Haylie's POV**
Joe and I had just left the awards show and were sitting in the back of a cab. Our luggage was piled into the trunk and all over our laps. I was glad though because it allowed my squirming to go unnoticed.
"Just think," Joe began taking my hand in his. "In a few hours we'll be on a plane far away from here. Just me and you, from now until forever."
Sure forever with Joe sounded nice. I mean any girl in my position would be freaking out at this very moment. Running away with Joe Jonas...wasn't that the dream of half of the teenage girl population? So why wasn't I more excited?
"Yeah, I can't wait." I lied tightening my hand in his.
"Is everything okay?" Joe asked looking over at me.
"Yeah, everything is fine." I lied again. I really hated lying and doing it to my boyfriend wasn't a great feeling.
"Okay," Joe said turning his gaze to the window.
We got to the airport and I began grabbing stuff from the cab. Joe paid the driver and helped me with the rest.
"You ready?" Joe asked as we set our stuff on the conveyor belt.
"Can't wait," I said. There I go again. Lying about this whole situation. But did he want to hear the truth? Did I want to tell the guy I could potentially spend the rest of my life with I was having doubts?
"Okay, Haylie now I know something is the matter because you have been quiet for over an hour." Joe said as we sat waiting for our flight to be called.
"No, everything is fine."
"Stop lying to me. Haylie please, if you can't tell me who can you tell?" Joe asked.
"Nick," I replied staring at me feet. I didn't want to see his expression when I said that. I knew it had to hurt that his own girlfriend would rather talk to your brother than you.
"I see," was all Joe said.
That hurt me. I figured he was catching on because he handed me his cell phone.
"Since you left yours back at your house." He said getting up and walking away.
"Thank you," I replied more to myself than him.
I dialed Nick's number and waited for him to answer.
**Joe's POV**
I left Haylie alone to call Nick. How could I be so stupid? How could I be so selfish? To think that a girl I met less than a week ago would drop everything to be with me? Who was I kidding? I actually thought she was different though. I mean the way she gave me that stupid feeling in the pit of my stomach every time she was near me. How her smile made me smile too. How her laugh was so contagious, and her jokes hysterical. I never met anyone like her. I guess that is why I rushed this. Why I pushed so hard to be with her. How I was willing to give up everything to be with her. I was supposed to be an adult, and here I stood acting like a 10 year old. The only thing that hurt more than the knowledge of my immature was losing the girl of my dreams to my younger brother.
I turned around and saw Haylie wipe her eyes. Figuring she was talking to Nick, I pulled the hat over my head lower. I know teenage girls minds pretty well. You hear the mention of a kid named Joe while talking to a boy named Nick and I guarentee you'll get at least 3 girls to assume you are talking about the Jonas Brothers. I couldn't take the risk of someone recognizing me now. Not at the most humiliating moment of my life.
**Nick's POV**
"Where are they?" Kevin asked me.
The after party had ended a few hours ago and aside from Kevin and me, the only ones left were drunken celebrities that had to wait for a ride.
"I don't know Kevin." I said. "Maybe they went back to the limo. They did say they weren't feeling well."
"We can try there." Kevin agreed. "I mean we don't have anything else to assume."
The walk to the limo was quiet and I had a feeling something wasn't right. We got to the limo and the driver rolled down the window.
"I was told to give you this." He said holding a piece of paper in his hands. "It is from Joseph."
Kevin nodded and took the letter.
He scanned the letter and dropped it to the ground.
"They left," He said to shocked to reach an abnormal decibel level.
"What I asked?" I refused to believe it. Where could they go?
"They took of Nick." Kevin said now louder. "The note said that him and Haylie were running away, and not to come after them."
"No, that is not true." I said bending down to pick up the paper.
I had to read it for myself to believe it, but even then it seemed impossible.
Dear Kevin and Nick,
I'm sorry to do this, but I have no choice. Kevin you once asked me if I was willing to give up everything for Haylie, and I am. I know I have only met her a few days ago, but she is the ONE. I have never felt this way about anyone before, so you know I'm not lying. I'm sorry to break up the band. Sorry I'm being selfish, but you are my brothers. Please understand I need Haylie in my life and this is the only way I know how. So, we are leaving. To where...I don't know. But please don't come looking for us. I'll call mom and dad when we get to where ever and tell them. I'll explain everything as best as I can to you both too. I'll be in touch.
Love,
Joe
"IS HE COMPLETELY NUTS?"! I yelled after rereading the letter several times. "DID HE FALL AND HIT HIS HEAD ONE TOO MANY TIMES?"
"Well yeah, but calm down Nick, we can't cause a scene. There are people still around. You never know what could end up in the morning paper." Kevin said opening up the limo door.
"Get in, take that note and tear it up into a million little pieces when we get back to the bus. We aren't going to speak of this until we are behind those doors."
I nodded and followed Kevin into the limo.
Just as we got to the bus my phone started ringing.
"It's Joe," I replied staring at the Caller ID.
"Answer it inside." Kevin said pushing me out of the limo door.
"Joe, hang on one second." I said answering the call. "I can't talk now."
Kevin and I hurried into the bus and slammed the door. We both sat on the lounge couch and I put the phone on speaker.
"Nick, it's Haylie."
Her voice sounded shaky and I was afraid she had been crying.
"Haylie? Where are you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," She said sniffing. "I need you to come get Joe and me."
"Where are you?" I asked again.
"The airport right before San Diego."
"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?" I yelled unable to control myself.
"Nick, please. I'm sorry." Haylie said. It was now obvious she was crying.
"Haylie, please don't cry." I said now feeling guilty. "Kev and I will get there as fast as we can. I promise."
I hung up the phone and looked at Kevin.
"We have to go now."
Kevin nodded and we called for a cab. In the process we both put on our disguises and finishing headed out the door.
**Haylie's POV**
"Joe will you please at least look at me?" I asked staring up at Joe.
He sat across from me since I hung up with Nick, but hadn't said or even looked at me since then.
"What do you want me to say Haylie?" Joe asked still refusing to look up. "I was willing to give up everything for you. You obviously don't feel the same way about me."
"That isn't true Joe." I said now kneeling in front of him. "I could spend the rest of my life with you if you asked me, but I can't run away with you."
"Because that makes so much sense." Joe said rolling his eyes. "Look I'm not in the mood to discuss this right now. Maybe Kevin was right. It was best that you left. I can't have a girl come and mess everything up that I've worked for."
"You don't mean that." I said grabbing his hands in mine. "Well I mean, yeah you don't need to throw away everything you have worked for, but you can't possibly be saying you want me to leave."
"That is exactly what I'm saying Haylie." Joe said pulling his hands away from mine.
He extend on hand to me and held it up. "Can I have the necklace back?"
My jaw dropped open and I felt like my heart had just smashed into a million pieces.
With my hands shaking I fumbled with the clasp of the necklace.
"There," I said handing it to him. "And while we're confessing everything Joseph," I began now standing on my feet. "Why don't you go soak your head because I never want to see your pathetic face again."
I stormed away from him and into the girl's bathroom. Behind closed doors I fell to my knees and cried. In a matter of hours my entire world had just came crashing down.
**Joe's POV**
"Are you out of your mind?" I heard behind me.
Turning around I saw Nick and Kevin walking towards me.
"Where is Haylie?" Kevin asked.
I nodded in the direction of the bathroom.
"Nick, go get Haylie." Kevin said.
Nick nodded and headed away from us.
"Joe can you please tell me what possessed you to act so immature?" Kevin asked me.
"Kevin, I..." But the words wouldn't come out. My mind wouldn't let me tell him what I was feeling when Haylie didn't even know.
"You what Joe?"
"I think..." But again I couldn't say anything.
"You think what?"
"I can't tell you."
"Joe, if you don't then I'm sending Haylie home right now. I'm going to walk over to that phone and calling for a cab and sending her home."
"I think...I think I love her." I said quietly.
"Joe are you sure?"
I was shocked at Kevin being so supportive. I was sure he would have freaked. But I guess he understands that when love comes you should welcome it, not run from it.
"I'm positive,"
"Well then I am leaving this up to you. You are old enough to make decisions by yourself. I can't guide you forever."
"I know Kevin." I replied standing up. "Thank you for always being there though."
Kevin nodded. "Come on, let's go get a cab while we wait for Nick and Haylie."
**Haylie's POV**
"Haylie, unlock the door. It's Nick."
I stood up, wiping my eyes, and opened the door.
"Hi," I said weakly.
"Please don't cry Haylz." Nick said hugging me. "I hate seeing you cry."
"Nick, he...he..." But I couldn't say it. I lost conrtol and started crying into Nick's chest.
"It doesn't matter." Nick said rubbing my back. "You're okay, that is all that is important."
"But Nick I'm not." I said pulling away from him. "Joe doesn't want anything to do with me anymore."
"Hayl, he is just angry. Come on you would be too if you were a huge pop sensation and just were about to risk everything only to have it all come crashing down."
"Thanks, you make me sound like a jerk."
"Haylie you know what I mean. He still cares for you. I know it."
"Nick, I think I might love him." I confessed tears now brimming my eyes.
"I just hope he forgives me. Nick I don't want to live without him."
Nick nodded and hugged me.
"Come on, let's go before we cause a scene. We'll talk tonight okay?"
I nodded as Nick offered me his hand. We stepped onto the street as the cool California air hit us.
"I miss him already." I said as Nick motioned for the cab.
"He hasn't gone anywhere Haylie."
"He might as well. It'd probably be easier."
