Sandra sat on the bench and rested her head on her bare knees. She let her mind run free as she thought of the journey life had taken her on so far. She thought of how her mother had died when she was just a little girl, leaving her on her own. Sandra had traveled from country to country, trying to find a place that she belonged in. However, after many years of searching she never found such a place. When she turned seventeen she was captured by people in India and brought to a large house of a governor, where she was made a slave. She did everything; the cooking, the cleaning, even satisfying the governor. She led a hard and cursed life that she hated. One day there was a visitor at the house. When Sandra opened the door she came face to face with a handsome face of about 20. His long brown hair fell to right below his ear and his deep blue eyes held sadness and dispair. He had lifted his deep eyes up to her and held her gaze for a while. He smiled a crooked smile that didn't reach his eyes.
"I'm here to see the governor." he had said in an Amreican accent. As soon as she had heard his voice, Sandra was his. She led him through the house, his eyes downcast and a shadow over his face. Every once in a while he would look up and catch her looking at him and she would turn her head and blush as she continued to walk.
He had come back every day. Sandra found out that his name was Gabriel Liender. He was from America and he was doing business for the Navy. After a while he came more often to speak to her then to speak to the governor. His eyes began to loose the look of sadness and dispair and they would shine brightly whenever he smiled.
Sandra became accustomed to his tanned face, bright smile, and deep blue eyes. He told her of life in America. Of the bright blue sea and the busy cities. Of the country sides and the tall mountains. He brought pictures and he introduced her to different kinds of foods and different customs. He taught her about holidays and celebrations. Sandra found herself missing him when he wasn't there and wishing she could be in his arms when he was there.
When war broke out in India, Gabriel informed her that he needed to go back to America. She begged him to stay but he didn't. He left and Sandra was left alone with her master.
A year after Gabriel left her and the war was more intense then ever. Her master was captured and killed and she was brought to be the slave of the enemies general. She was used to give pleasure to the general after a day of battle. He was rough with her, and several times she whoke up unable to walk or sometimes even to move.
When the American's invaded India they attacked the camp you were at with the general. They killed all the soldiers but when the saw Sandra they brought her with them. They kept her in a cell at their camps and she got food and water twice a day. Even though she had no freedom and little food she still liked this life better then the past ones she had. One day a soldier came and took her from her holding cell and led her to a helicopter that was waiting out in the courtyard. She didn't know where she was going and if it was going to be worse then what she had now, but she didn't care.
She was on the helicopter for almost a day and when it finally descended, she stumbled off as the soldier leading her helped to steady her movements slightly. She was lead into another building behind another fence. The building was a maze of hallways and rooms that confused Sandra. She didn't know what country she was in and who's army she was with anymore. She was lead down a hallway that ended with double doors made of wood.
The soldier leading her, opened the door and led her into a large, spacious room. There was a large desk in the middle of the room with a big chair behind it. The chair was turned away from Sandra and she could tell that a man was sitting in it. When the chair turned Sandra looked at the face that was now looking at her. She smiled and inconciously moved forwards when the man cleared his throat. She quickly stopped walking.
"Thank you Luietenant." he had said in his deep voice, filled with slight sadness and dispair. Sandra's eyes softened and when the soldier left the room she quickly huried over to the man and wrapped her arms around him.
"I missed you Gabriel." she had whispered in his ear and he smiled.
"I missed you too Sandra." he had said back and pulled her into a deep kiss.
Sandra sighed when she remembered all of this. That was how she had ended up in a small house in the middle of the New York country side. And she didn't live alone either. She lived with a retired General of the U.S. Navy by the name of Gabriel Liender.
