Patricks POV
I regarded Jen compassionately as she hung up the phone with a soft sigh. Her flawless features creased into the beginnings of an angry frown as she balled Pete and Ashlees wedding invitation into her fist and tossed it into the garbage can disgustedly. Being Petes best friend I felt inclined to attend but if Jen wasnt going Id back her up fully, my crush on her that over the years had blossomed into love had me completely at her mercy. She, I and Pete had been friends since pre-school and in the thousands of days in my life; the most momentous was and always will be the day we met. I was convinced an angel had just walked into the classroom, until Pete bust my bubble and told me there was no such thing and angel or not the most important thing in a woman was that she had big bazonkas. Well we were only five; sometimes I think Pete still is.
"Hows she holding up?" I asked, although Jens expression pretty much said it all. Sure, Jared was a nice guy but it was obvious that Lanas heart always had and always would belong to Pete. Out of all the women Id seen come and go in Petes life she was the only one able to put that stupid grin of his on his face and even to make him blush at times.
"Shes putting on a brave face but shed been crying, I could hear it in her voice. I just wish there was something I could do" I let my fingers brush Jens arm comfortingly, shivering gently as I let them linger on her skin. Maybe she was right, maybe all they needed was a little push in the right direction and hopefully revealing my romantic side might give Jen a few pointers too. I smirked knowingly to myself as I retrieved my cell phone from my pocket and scrolled through my phonebook to Petes number.
"Maybe there is, think you can get Lana to Alassandros for lunch?" Jens lips curved up into a curious smile, the same smile that always affected me like the sun affected butter, as she pondered my question for a few minutes. It was a stretch, but even just getting them into the same room was a start. I awaited Jens consent before hitting the dial button, taking a deep breath as my heart began to beat faster with the thought we might actually be able to pull this off.
"I take it you heard the news and yeah you can totally be best man. I just have to clear it with Ash first, you know how women are when it comes to weddings" I scowled in disbelief at Petes greeting and assumption. I could feel my blood start to boil as I remembered Lanas tear stained face the day they broke up, angered by the fact that Pete seemingly hadnt spared a thought for how she must be feeling right now.
"Actually no Im not interested in being best man; in fact I wont be at the wedding at all. I just called to ask if you were free for lunch" I couldnt help but smile at the fact Id stunned Pete into silence. I felt bad but sometimes you have to be harsh, especially with insensitive morons like Pete. I suppressed a giggle as Jen raised her middle finger smugly towards the phone, switching the phone to my other ear impatiently as I waited for Petes response.
"What do you mean youre not coming? Trick youre my best friend you have to be there" there was some slight urgency in Petes voice that filled me with great satisfaction. I gave Jen the thumbs up as I prepared to put the next stage of my plan into action.
"Lanas also my friend and shes getting married the same day, Id rather attend the fair than the circus but I guess we could negotiate over lunch" Jen returned my gesture as she caught on to what I was thinking, slightly amused at my little dig at Pete and Ashlees wedding. It wasnt far from the truth.
"Ha, you dont actually think shes gonna go through with it? I mean hes so.... not me. Lunch sounds good, Ash accidentally burnt the steaks we were gonna have so I was planning on eating out anyway" I rolled my eyes; sure I sensed a little jealousy among the arrogance.
"Ok Ill see you at Alassandros in an hour, talk to you then" I grinned triumphantly as I hung up, hoping Lana would agree as easily. Although as long as there were curly fries there Im sure wed have no trouble convincing her. She was one of the few models who refused to let the suits dictate what she could eat and drink and when or who she could be seen with and where she could hang out.
"You are an evil man Patrick Martin Stump, I like it" giggled Jen, looks like it was a score for both of us.
you blow a kiss but it just don't feel the same cause i can feel that you're gone
