All my life I have been but a flicker. A tempting figure, so close to your world that we can touch, yet so far away that you can never hold me in your hands. Slow enough to mingle between you, yet fast enough to copy any movement of yours. And that is exactly what I am. A flicker. Fading in and out of a certain world, in a dimension so near that I could be seen, yet so far away that I could not linger.
I have been fading in and out of dimensions ever since I was created. Yes, created. For I was created out of the brightest shade of pitch black that there is, bright enough to blind you, yet dark enough to swallow anyone who dares venture into it. And so I was created, neither in dark nor light, neither in Heaven nor Hell, just somewhere along the border, balancing on the fine threads that stretch between the two.
So I guess the closest understandable thing I can relate myself to in your language is a shadow. Insubstantial, and never destroyed, yet always there, even when not visible to the naked eye. However, I am anything but a shadow. I am very substantial, oh yes, but not in your dimension. And, unlike shadows, I can think for myself, move on my own. I am not simply a copy.
The name for my kind is Khial. Yet I am one of the last of my kind, for many have chosen to anchor themselves. Anchoring is when a Khial chooses to remain in a single dimension, therefore relinquishing the power to shift through dimensions. Once an anchor is placed, they can no longer claim to be a Khial, for all their powers are lost, and their names are erased from our memories. It once used to be a disgrace to anchor ones self, but now more and more Khials are doing it. Woe on the old times.
I personally would never think about anchoring myself. I love flickering through dimensions, which is relatively simple. Since we Khial are made of mainly energy (along with a few other choice materials), we simply focus our Taka (a.k.a. life energy, Chakra, etc.) and shift through the hairline of a barrier separating worlds, planets, universes, and even further than that. However, its actually much simpler than it sounds. All dimensions coexist, with one on top of another. In short, I can be in one dimension, then rematerialize into another one, and be in the exact same spot, yet in a completely different dimension. I assume one being in your dimension once wrote a book based on this theory; The Golden Compass. How could he have described the difference between dimensions so accurately? Well, a Khial must have anchored himself in his dimension and explained it to him. What a betrayal!
We Khial live for eternity; our existence is based on the existence of dimensions, from which our Taka (energy) is derived. Once all dimensions are destroyed, we will have no place to draw our energy from, and well fade away. However, there will always be dimensions, so we are basically immortal. Basically, but there are a few exceptions, which I wont get into now.
To tolerate the complexity of our existence, us Khial have highly developed brains. We are able to process information almost instantly, and can withhold an immense amount of knowledge after just reviewing the material once. Its theorized that our brains were developed so that as we shifted through dimensions, our entire body would correspond with our brain at once, making sure that no part was left behind. You see, flickering through dimension layers is a split second action, and if a limb reacts too late it is simply discarded and left behind. Not pretty.
Of course, there is much more than that to our existence, more than any one of you can ever hope to comprehend in your short lives. More will be revealed as I tell my tale, but even then, one cannot even begin to grasp all the concepts of the Khial.
Anyways, I originally shifted through planes into this human made dimension, the Internet, to tell a story. A story about Well, if I told you what the story was about, it wouldnt be much of a story, would it now? So listen carefully, because I will tell this story once, and only once.
