Chapter 1 : Red: The Color of Blood--((Introduction))
In need of a good read?
Disco Is Dead
Everybody need to belong somewhereLife can feel so alone without someone who cares
"Everyone has a story, Araceli."
That's what my father said to me once long ago, before he died.
I was confused at the time and I didnt know what he meant. Now, I guess I do.
Everyone does have a story. I have a story, you have a story, my sister has a story, my brother has a story. Hell, even my dog has a story.
Some are just different.
Like mine.
Mine is weird.
But I'm a weird kid.
Blah.
Do you want to hear it?
Really?
Really really?
Alright.
Let me see....
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
I think my story truly begins on October 29th. The year isn't important, so I do not include it.
My friend Abby and my other "friend" Candy were planning on what to do on Halloween...
"I think we should go trick-or-treating this year!" Abby said enthusiastically.
"No," Candy argued, "We should go to that party Frank is hosting!"
"Psh. Free candy is better!"
"I know I am," Candy retorted with a smile.
"You dork! Shut up Candy!"
"Hey you know dork means 'whale penis' right?" I suddenly asked.
They stared at me. "What?"
Candy shook her head and the corners of Abby's mouth were twitching.
"You whale penis!" Abby yelled at me, suddenly laughing.
"Oi! Shut up!"
Candy smiled uncertainly.
"Ari, What do you think we should do?"
"I don't care as long as there's candy." I muttered a little annoyed that she called me Ari. Hello! My name begins with ARA! Are-uh-sell-e
That is how you pronounce my name.
Plus, I like my full name better. No nicknames, thanks.
Candy smirked. "Alright, party time girls!"
Abby sighed. Then grinned. "Do we get to dress up?"
"Yes, I have been informed that it is in fact a costume party. Ooh hey did I tell you guys that I and Frank are going out!?"
"Noooo WAY!" Abby squealed.
"Are you serious?!" I exclaimed. It was fake. Well to me it sounded fake. Abby and Candy didn't notice a thing. But I mean seriously. Candy, the most popular girl at school, Frank the hottest guy at school.
Do the math.
"Okay," Candy said in a brisk business-like tone when she and Abby were done squealing. "What the hell are we going to be?"
"We should be vampires!" Abby exclaimed. "Only we look verrryyy sexy!"
"No," I argued, not really caring but knowing they were going to force me to dress up like them, "That's too cliche."
"What do you suggest?" Candy asked, her eyebrows raised almost in a mocking way.
But in a way to where it did not seem mocking. But I saw it.
Okay maybe it wasn't mocking. I did not like Candy. At all. In fact, Abby and I used to hate her. I really don't know what happened.
"..."
"Alright! So we're vampires!"
I smiled politely, fakely, then grabbed my phone and started texting.
Araceli: Aldric!! Whn were we suppsed to pick up Jolee???? Plz say noww!
Jolee was my little sister. She was 12. I was 15. Aldric was 16.
Aldric: take a chill pill sis. like now or mum will have a fit.
Araceli: Yessss! Pick me up b4 i die?
Aldric: Haha b right there. maybe ill w8 just 4 u to freak out more?
Araceli: ALDRIC!!!
Aldric:
I closed my phone. Unlike most siblings, we all got along. I mostly got along with Aldric.
"Ari! You should like get a haircut or something! And the costume! Let's go look tomorrow!"
"Totally!" Abby agreed.
I nodded, pretending to listen. A haircut? Who the hell did Candy think she was, bossing me around like that!?
Oh, that's right. Ms. Popularity.
Honk Honkkkk!
Jumping I grabbed my phone and raced out the door.
"Gottagonowseeya!" I yelled.
"What's up with her...?" I heard Candy ask.
"I can't believe it."
"I'm sorry Araceli! She wanted to-"
"You set me up with some dude!?!?" I asked in disbelief. I was irritated. I didn't want to be hooked up with some dude I didn't know.
"Araceli-"
"Hold on!" I hissed narrowing my eyes at her. "Where is he?"
She pointed.
Well...At that point I blushed.
He was cute. And he looked familiar.
"Why does he look familiar?" I asked Abby, hoping she didnt see my blush.
"He's in our English class."
"Really? I haven't noticed. He's new huh?"
"Uh no...Hes been in that class like all year. He sits behind you."
"Uhh...ohh..."
She nudged me.
"Go talk to him," She laughed.
I shook my head. "No. Why should I? I'm just going to tell him that I didn't want to be-"
The music cut me off as a CD was inserted and everyone started dancing.
Glaring at Abby for a second, I thought about what to do. I turned my gaze to...that guy. It occurred to me that I didn't know his name.
I sighed and walked over to him.
"Hi." I said as I stood in front of him.
"Um...Hi?"
"Look, you know Candy right? She wanted to hook us up or something-"
"Yeah I know. She tricked me. She said a pretty girl!"
I glared at him but then my expression softened when I noticed he was kidding.
I felt the heat rise to my face.
"Ha. Ha. I'm dying with laugher." I commented wryly. "Youre in one of my classes right? Ummm English?"
"Try three. I sit behind you in English."
"Oh. Sorry. Haha. Sometimes I'm in my own little world...I kind of don't remember stuff?"
"You've never noticed me 'til tonight, right?"
I blushed with embarrassment. How could I not have noticed him? He was...hot!
"Uhh..."
"It's okay to say no you haven't you know." He grinned. His smile was to die for.
I laughed, "No, then. I haven't. Sorry."
He laughed again. "It's cool. Oh shit here she comes."
I glanced up, not sure who he was talking about. Did he have a girlfriend?
"Heyyy guys? Are you enjoying yourselves?" A voice asked. I didn't have to turn to know who it was.
"Hey Candy. I'm fine." I answered.
"Yeah." The guy answered.
I turned around to face her.
"Alright. I'll leave you guys alone okkaaayyy?"
She winked and left.
"Okkkkaaayyyyy." I drawled, mocking her.
He laughed again.
"What's your name?" I asked curiously.
"Daniel. And you?"
"Araceli."
"Araceli," He repeated, "Are you like...French or Italian or something."
I laughed again. "French."
"No way! Can you speak French."
"No, Daniel, I speak Spanish though."
"Really?"
"No you idiot!"
"That was mean."
I stuck my tongue out. "Get used to it. Now that I know you're in three of my classes..." I trailed off, grinning wickedly.
From this point I bet you're thinking we became a couple me and him, right? Youre dying to know aren't you?
Well it doesn't happen. There's a good reason, this was the beginning. He becomes important later. So does Candy.
Muahahahahahahahahhaha I'm eil yeah! heehee!
