The door that seperates our new world from the rest opens, and I pull away just in time to see Paul's jaw drop. I hear him shout, "Holy crap" but the only thing I can concentrate on is the ringing in my ears.
"Paul, man, calm down! We were just catching up," Billy said, holding onto my hand to keep me from bolting out of this akward situation.
"This is really bad, Seriously." Paul counters, closing the door behind him and leaning against it.
"How is it bad? Billy and I have been friends since we were practically in diapers," I say, smiling despite the disaster looming ahead.
"Alex, Tony told us that he's going to propose! Don't you see how bad this is?" Paul says, rubbing his face with his left hand, looking at me through his fingers.
"Who's he proposing to?" I ask without thinking, making the air in the room suddenly thick and stuffy.
"YOU YOU MORON!" Paul said, loudly and slowly, as if I was stupid.
"Me? When? What?" I word-vomit, my eyes widening. I start to stand up, but Billy's fingers grasp onto my wrist, anchoring me to him.
Paul sighs, shakes his head disapprovingly aat Billy and I, and then turns on his heel and walks out of the room, closing the door with a snap behind him.
Billy pulls me into his lap as soon as the two of us are left alone together again, and kisses me softly and gently on the lips, stroking a loose lock from my face as he does so. I kiss him back, relaxing more and more the longer we kiss.
My mind finally gets around the news Paul just unleashed on me; I'M GETTING ENGAGED AND MAKING OUT WITH BILLY?!
Baby, I thought you'd never get it. Quit making out, you cheater! You can't do this to Tony!
"Billy!" I gasp, shoving him away from me and getting off of his lap with amazing speed.
"What?"
"We can't be doing this!"
"Why not?"
"Didn't you hear Paul? I'm going to get married, Billy!"
"Only if you say yes to Tony."
"What do you mean by That?!" I ask, raising my voice slightly.
"Lexi, come on. This is stupid. Can't we just talk, I mean, we just now got in touch again," Billy said, standing up and coming to comfort me.
I pull away from him, feeling my pulse quicken in anger. "Yeah, and I don't know about you, but my life has still been going on for the last ten years. Tony is part of that life, and I can't just abandon my adult life to come be a teenager with you again!"
Billy's face falls, and he sits back down on the couch again, looking away from me.
As much as I want to run away from him again, I can't. I sit down next to him and rest my head on his shoulder blade. "Billy, talk to me, please," I say quietly, lifting my head and in its place, resting my hand there to rub his back gently.
"I don't want you to abandon your current life, I just want to play a part in it. Damn, Lexi... I know that you've grown up, I mean, look at you, you look amazing and you've got an awesome career. I've grown up too, I'm in a kickass band, doing what I love, drawing for galleries and stuff now," Billy says, looking back at me.
"I know, Billy. I know. I'm so proud of you, by the way. All of your dreams have come true," I say, smiling, even though I'd much rather cry.
"All but one," Billy mutters, looking away from me."What dream is that?" I ask, my smile replaced with a concerned look.
"Nevermind, it's not important anymore anyway... I mean, you're going to get married and everything. So it's too late. Just forget about it, okay?"
"Wait a second, Billy. What does my possible marriage have to do with one of your dreams?"
"Nothing, okay? Just forget about it. Anyway, you better get back to Tony, right? I'll call you soon, and we'll meet up, okay?" Billy says, standing up and taking my hand in his. He pulls me to my feet with a graceful ease, and leads me to the door.
Just as his other hand hits the door's knob, my hand pushs against the door, keeping it closed. "Billy, promise me something else, okay?"
His face is unreadable, and he answers in a flat voice. "What is that?"
I feel the tears start to come to my eyes, this is so much like the last time I saw him, it's unbelieveable. "Billy, promise that this time you'll stay in touch, because I'm afraid of losing you again."
A relieved sigh escapes his lips. "Of course. I promise. Anything for you, Lexi."
"One more thing," I say, wiping at my eyes quickly. "What's that, Lex?" He says, smiling."Kiss me," I say, grabbing the collar of his shirt and bringing his lips to mine.
