I wanted him to be my first everything.
My first kiss. My first love. My first boyfriend. My first...well, you know.
We were fifteen when I was able to check the first thing of my list.
"Brendon, where do you think you'll be ten years from now?"
He sat there, just looking at the clouds, "I'll probably be a land surveyor like my dad. And hopefully we'll still live here, in Vegas."
"We?" I asked hopefully.
"Yeah, you and me." He moved his gaze from the sky, and locked eyes with me. He leaned in, and connected our lips. It was a short gentle kiss, but it meant the world to me none the less.
I actually got to check two things off my list that day.
Soon he broke the kiss, and began to talk.
"Uh, would you like to be my girlfriend?"
I smiled bigger than I ever thought I could when those words reached my ears. "I would love to, Brenny."
He smiled just as big and kissed me again.
You know those kids that have been best friends since they were born, and everyone just knew that they were going to get married and have a family together? Well, Brendon and I were told that we were those kids.
And we knew that we were.
For my entire life up until that point, when we became more than just best friends, I had always gotten that jittery feeling inside of me.
But as time went by, my little crush turned into something stronger.
As time went by, Brendon became my love.
And here we were, seventeen years old, and still nothing had changed. We were lying on the grass in my backyard staring at the sky.
"Brendon, for my whole life, whenever I thought of my future, you were always included. I've never thought of fulfilling my dreams without you. When I was dreaming of being a Princess, you were my prince charming. When I wanted to be a mom, you were the father of my children."
He turned on his side, and looked into my eyes.
He looked as if he were about to say something, but just kissed me instead.
And let me tell you, it was much better than words. When the kiss was broken, he looked into my eyes some more.
"I know we're only seventeen, but will you marry me?"
"Yes." I smiled. He grinned, and pulled a box out of his pocket.
"This was grandma's ring, and she gave it to me." He slipped it onto my finger.
"You know what she said when she gave it to me?"
"Hmm?"
"She said, 'Bren, when you give this to Addie, make it special, okay? Make her remember the night you proposed to her for the rest of her life.'"
I grinned wider. His Grandma even knew we were going to end up together.
And you know what? I got to cross off the last thing on my list that night.
We made love.
And just like that my list was complete.
:D
