::Give Him Hell, Kid:: {Ray Toro's Daughter} ::Four::

Created by green-day-39 on Sunday, April 13, 2008

"Happy birthday, dad!" I shouted, grinning from ear to ear.
"Rae, I love you and all, but please, just five more minutes.." he mumbled, rolling over in his bed.
I laughed. "Come on lazy, it's all ready 11am and we have to leave in half an hour."
"Ah, shit."
I rolled my eyes and announced I was going to go and see the others. It was only him still in bed, and I wanted to know why. Usually he was the first up.
"Hey, guys," I greeted, walking into a hotel room.
Mikey was sprawled on the couch with Gerard at the end, smoking. Frank was in the armchair and Bob was just sat on the floor, looking half dead.
"Mornin'," they grumbled. "Where's Ray?"
I shrugged. "In bed still. I don't get why though."
Bob laughed. "I know why. We didn't fall asleep until 6am. He was worrying about where you were yesterday."
I sighed. "Why does he have to worry so much? I was only in town looking around."
"Yeah but who with?" Gerard asked, looking at me.
"I was by myself," I replied quickly.
They'd kill me if they knew I was with Joey.
Gerard just rolled his eyes. "Rae, we know you were with that guy. Just tell your dad about him. Please."
I sighed and nodded. "Okay fine. Fine. But not until tomorrow. I don't want to spoil his birthday or anything."
"That's a good idea," Mikey announced.
"And he rises from the dead!" I said sarcastically.
He smirked. "Shut up."
My dad stumbled in, half asleep and yawning. "Hello!" he said.
"Hey," everyone replied. "Come on, we've gotta get our stuff together."
I groaned, knowing it was going to be a long night. Fair enough, it was my dad's birthday and there was a slight surprise for him at the Birmingham arena, but I really wanted to see Joey.
Speaking of, when we were leaving my phone beeped.
From: Joey
Message: Hey babe! Do you want to come round tomorrow? Lily and Matt want to see you again too. If you do, be here for 12.

I smiled and started to text him back, just telling him I'd be there for that time.
"Who are you texting?" my dad asked.
I shrugged. "Just Olivia."
Olivia was one of my few friends from New Jersey. She was younger than me - 12 - but she was really cool and a good friend.
He nodded. "Okay."
I couldn't help but notice the look that was in his eyes. It was somewhere in between anger and sadness, and I knew why: I was the only person that had 'remembered' his birthday. The other guys had decided to 'forget', so it made the surprise even more special.
"Are we there yet?" I asked, just as the bus was setting off.
"No!" they all replied at once.
And that was pretty much the entire ride. A series of, "are we there yet?" and "no!".
I think it's safe to say that I annoyed them. A lot.
"Are we ther -"
"YES!" Gerard yelled.
I laughed. "Woo!"
We went inside and while the guys were setting up, I was just sat backstage, texting Joey and being bored. Then, Gerard, Mikey, Frank and Bob came over and smiled at me.
I knew this was my cue. "Hey, dad," I said, walking up to him.
"Yeah?" he asked, turning around and smiling.
"Do you want to, erm.. go walk around the arena?" I asked, blurting out the first thing that came into my head.
He nodded. "Sure."
He put his guitar down and we walked outside. Fans were all ready lining up and they started screaming and taking photos when they saw us. Thank God for the huge gate that seperated us.
Lol.
"So what songs are you playing tonight?" I asked as we walked around the arena.
"Pretty much everything from Revenge and a few from Bullets," my dad replied.
I nodded. "Cool. When you doing the new album?"
He laughed. "Revenge has only just come out! It'll be a year or so yet before we even start writing. We'll be touring."
I nodded, smiling, then sighed. "You know, just because you have me doesn't mean that you can't be happy."
"What do you mean? I am happy," he replied, confused.
I sighed again. "Dad, you started dating that girl you liked, and that I liked too, and then you broke up with her because you thought I hated her."
He smirked. "I'm happy with just you in my life, Rae. I don't need a girlfriend."
"But why? You know it'd make you happier and I'd be happy for you. As long as she wasn't a whore," I smiled.
My dad just sighed but didn't reply for a few minutes. Then he said: "I know it would be nice for me and maybe it would be nice for you to have a mother figure to look up to, but I'm too busy with touring and looking after you at the minute. I don't need a girlfriend, okay? I have you, and that's all that matters."
We both smiled and carried on walking in silence, hand in hand.
Then suddenly he laughed. "I can remember when you would refuse to walk anywhere without holding anyone's hand."
I laughed. "What can I say? I'm a cool kid!"
He smiled. "That you are. Okay it's freezing, let's go back."
"Er, no!" I stammered. "Let's go and erm.. talk to the fans!" I grinned.
My dad raised his eyebrow and said: "We'll get mobbed."
"That's the fun of it!" I laughed, dragging him back towards the gate.
"Okaaay.." he said slowly.
"RAY! I LOVE YOU!" they all screamed when we appeared. "WHO'S THAT GIRL?! IS THAT YOUR GIRLFRIEND?! CAN I HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH?!"
My dad laughed and started signing stuff. One girl - who looked about 25 - smiled at me. I just smiled back.
"You're Rachel, right? Ray's daughter?" she asked.
I nodded, walking over to her. "Yeah, call me Rae."
She laughed. "Nice. I'm Christa."
"Nice to meet you," I grinned.
Then something clicked. Something drastic, yet something amazing.
"Daaaad," I said innocently, turning around.
"Yeeees?" he replied.
"Come over here and talk to Christa," I smiled.
"Erm, okay?"
I grinned, walked away to talk to somebody else to let them two get to know each other..
"So, what's it like to be Ray Toro's daughter?" one girl asked me, smiling.
I smiled back. "Not bad, it's tiring but it's cool."
"Awesome! I'm glad I met you, you're really cool," she said.
I laughed. "Where are you from?"
"London."
I grinned. "We're staying there. We could meet up if you like."
She agreed and we swapped numbers. I found out she was called Amber and had loved My Chemical Romance since Bullets came out.

***

If you were here I'd never have a fear,
So go on live your life,
But I miss you more than I did yesterday,
You're so far away,
So c'mon show me how,
'Cause I mean this more than words can ever say..

The band finished the song they were playing and then Gerard announced: "It's a very special day today." He started giggling in his drunken state. "Happy fucking birthday to Mr Ray Toro!"
Everybody started cheering and clapping as the band started to sing 'Happy Birthday'. Even though I was watching from the side of the stage - but where no one could see me - I was singing too.
When it ended, Gerard slurred: "Happy birthday, man."
My dad laughed. "Thanks guys."
"And the next song is called Helena. It's about mine and Mikey's grandma. If you know the words sing 'em with me!" Gerard said.
Long ago,
Just like a hearse you'd die to get in again,
We are..

I just sat there, listening to the words coming from Gerard's mouth. They made me feel so emotional and in a way depressed. I always felt like that when I heard that song. Maybe because I was good friends with Elena, especially when I was a kid.
After a few more songs, the gig was over and the guys went offstage. "That was amazing!" I grinned, hugging my dad.
"Thanks," he smiled, kissing my head.
"..And you're extremely sweaty."
"Okay let's go in the back room," Frank said, hinting.
"Not yet," I replied. "Wait."
I ran off to the front of the arena, praying that this would work out okay.
And then I saw her. "Christa!" I yelled, running up to her.
She turned around. "Hey, Rae! What's up?"
"Follow me," I smiled. "It's my dad's birthday and I think he really fancies you so therefore you are coming to his surprise party," I gabbled, pulling her along after me.
She laughed. "Er.. okay?"
We walked backstage and the guys were still stood there.
"Oh, hey," my dad said when he saw Christa. He was blushing.
"Let's go to the back room now," Frank said.
I laughed and followed him to the back room. My dad and Christa were at the end of the line and when everybody was in there apart from them, we shut the door.
"Hey! What the?!" my dad yelled, banging on the door.
"Ready?" I whispered.
Everybody nodded and Bob opened the door. "SURPRISE!" we all screamed.
The look on his face was priceless. There was a huge table of food and another full of booze. In the corner, a pile of presents were stacked up.
"Oh my God!" he shrieked. "Thank you!"
The rest of the night was spent partying, drinking, eating and watching my dad opening his presents. I got him loads of guitar picks that were signed and had limited edition designs and loads of chocolate and sweets. Mikey - for a joke - gave him his hair straighteners and some other stuff too. Overall, he got tshirts, guitar picks, CDs, music books and junk food.
RestInResults.
"Gerarrrrrrrrrd!" I said in a sing-song voice, half slurring.
"Whaaaat?!" he replied, flopping onto the couch and pulling me down with him. I landed with an 'oomph'.
"Look at them," I whispered, giggling.
Gerard's eyes followed mine, where they rested on my dad and Christa in a corner kissing.
Then, without warning, I fell asleep on Gerard's chest, his heartbeat like a slow lullaby that rocked me into a good dream..
