"Do I really have to go with you guys?" Jesse asked for the millionth time as we finished getting ready to go to the beach. He had been complaining about it ever since I told him that we were going.
Taylor and I were almost ready to go. All we had left to do was change into our bathing suits. Jesse was all set, except he had to finish fixing his hair. It was amazing, really, how much gunk he could put in his hair and still have it not look greasy. He was being a total girl and took over an hour to do his hair. Even when I told him it would just get ruined at the beach he just shrugged me off and continued grooming, in his own little world.
"Yes you do have to go Jesse. You're my guide. Suck it up." I said, pulling two bathing suits and holding them up in front of me. "Which one?"
One of them was a plain black bikini with ties on the sides and the other was a bright green one piece with orange polka dots.
"Well, considering that the black one is so small there is a chance your boobs might pop out...I choose that one." Jesse grinned. "And who cares if I'm your guide? Taylor's guide isn't with her...like ever."
"You're a pervert." I curled my upper lip at him and turned towards Taylor who walked out of the bathroom sporting a pair of tight jean shorts over a small grey bikini with light pink polka dots on it.
"Which one?"
"I choose black." Taylor said after a quick glance in my direction. "The other one will make you look five."
"And the black one will make me look like a porn star." I said and noticed Jesse wink at me.
"Hey man. I'm just going from the choices you gave me." Taylor put her hands out in front of her defensively. "If you want to wear the green one, go ahead. It's fine by me."
I sighed. "Fine. I'll wear the black one." I picked a jean skirt and grey tank top out of the closet and made my way to the bathroom to change.
"Isabella wait!" Jesse said suddenly. "Before you put your skirt on come out here so I can tell you if the bikini is small enough."
I rolled my eyes and closed the bathroom door, making sure to lock the door behind me. When I was done changing I pulled on a pair of flip flops and shoved my sunglasses on top of my head. We all made our way down to the driveway, each carrying a towel and Jesse carrying the beach bag, and waited for Zack to pick us up. He arrived about 5 minutes after we got outside so thankfully we didn't have to wait too long. He pulled into the driveway with a minivan.
"Nice ride." I commented as I waited for Jesse and Taylor to climb into the van so I could do the same.
"Yeah." He laughed. "It's my moms."
I laughed and smiled at Rian, who was sitting in the passenger's seat. And of course the only seat left in the van was in the back seat right next to Alex. I sat down beside him with a friendly smile and adjusted my tank top, suddenly feeling a little under confident. As we made our way to the beach everyone was talking except me and Alex. I didn't have too much problem with that since I never really liked talking when on the road anyways. I liked looking at the scenery.
"Hey Isabella." Alex said suddenly.
"Hey Alex." I said back, still looking out the window. "You can call me Bella you know."
"Fine." Alex said.
"Fine." Now that was one of the dullest conversations in the world. I could just imagine the stimulating discussions we would be having at the beach.
I kind of just zoned out after that and didn't really pay attention to where we were going. The only indication that we had arrived was Jesse shrieking "We're here!" at the top of his lungs like a little girl. He hopped out of the car and made his way to the sand even before the car had come to a complete stop. Psh. And he didn't want to come in the first place.
Alex and I both made a move to get up and off the van but almost butted heads.
"You go first." Alex said.
"No. You go." I nodded my head towards the door.
"Ladies first." Alex raised an eye brow, as though he was challenging me.
"That doesn't help anything. Now we both have to go." I smirked and batted my eyelashes innocently.
"Fine." Alex smirked back and reached his hand out to me but I pulled away.
"Whoa. What are you doing?" I asked, eyeing his outstretched hand suspiciously.
"Raping you. Now come on. We're getting out." He tugged on my hand and shoved me out of the van, following close behind. "That wasn't so hard now was it?"
I shrugged and went around to the trunk to grab the bag, as everyone else had run down to the water. Alex and I walked down to the water's edge in silence and laid out our towels. Everyone else came to join us after a while to take off the clothes covering their bathing suits.
I laid back and closed my eyes.
"Aren't you going in the water?" Alex asked from beside me.
"No." I stated simply.
"Huh. It's the first nice day in like a month and you just want to lay there?"
"Yeah. Pretty much." He didn't say anything after that and I thought I heard him get up but when I opened my eyes he was still sitting there on the towel besides me, staring off into the ocean.
"Hypocrite." I muttered.
"What?"
"You're a hypocrite." I repeated, closing my eyes again.
"How so?" He asked curiously.
"You're complaining that I'm just laying here when it's such good weather. I don't see you doing anything."
He was silent and I opened my eyes a crack to see what he was doing. He was staring at me.
"What?"
"You're a very difficult person." He said with an impatient raised eyebrow. "You're making it very hard for me to be nice to you."
"If you would go do something other than stare at me maybe you wouldn't see how difficult I am." I sneered. "You could be swimming."
Alex sighed loudly. "What ever happened to that we have to be sincere to make this friendship work thing? Or was that just a big load of crap? And you're calling me a hypocrite."
I sat up in annoyance. "I did mean that. But that was before you called me difficult."
"You were being a hypocrite before I called you difficult!" Alex exclaimed in frustration.
We both sat there, fuming and looking out over the ocean.
"Sorry." I grumbled under my breath.
"Me too." Alex said, running his hand through the sand next to his towel.
"Huh. Now what?" He mused aloud.
"I don't know. We can go swimming." I suggested.
"Fine." Alex pulled off his shirt and stood up. "Come on."
I pulled off my shirt and skirt and tossed them to the side along with my sunglasses and looked up to see Alex staring at me.
"What?" I asked, crossing my arms over my stomach, suddenly feeling self conscious. "What? Is there something on me? Do I look bad?"
"No." Alex laughed. "Actually you look pretty good."
I smiled at him in understanding and smacked his arm playfully. "Perv. You and Jesse should hang out more often."
