**Joe's POV**
"Casey," I said taken aback when I opened the door.
"I need Nick," She said tears brimming her eyes.
I reached out to touch her but she pulled away.
"I need Nick," She said again.
"Casey please," I began attempting to reach out to her onec again.
"No!" She yelled tears now cascading down her cheeks. "I need my best friend. Please. Joe, if you love me like you say you do then you'll let me see him."
She had me there. I knew she had me so tightly wrapped around her finger that I'd do anything for her.
"Nick!" I called with my eyes still fixated on Casey.
She was crying to herself with her arms wrapped tightly around her.
"Nick, quick!" I yelled again.
Nick came racing down the stairs and pushed past me.
"Oh Cay," He whispered surrounding her in a hug.
I longed to feel Casey in my arms again, but seeing her like this made me believe it'd never happen.
I turned my gaze unwilling to watch my younger brother hold the one thing I truly needed in this world.
"Cay, please, stop crying." I heard Nick said before I headed up to my room.
I slammed the door shut and kicked my desk. I had to bit my tongue from swearing and I could feel blood from the pressure I was putting on it.
"Why me?" I asked falling onto my bed. "God, why did you do this to me?"
**Casey's POV**
"Come on Cay, let's go to my room." Nick said wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
I nodded and wiped a few stray tears from my eyes.
"I'm sorry," I said when he shut the door to him room.
"For what?" Nick asked sitting down next to me and wrapping me in another hug.
"For everything," I began. "I should have never allowed my parents to move with you. You wouldn't be forced to pick up the pieces of my heart everyday because of your brother. Joe wouldn't be in love with me, and none of this would be happening."
I could feel hot tears start to form in my eyes, but I didn't want to cry anymore.
"Cay, I'm sorry." Nick said rubbing my back gently. "I'm your best friend. I'm supposed to protect you. I couldn't."
I broke from Nick's hold and looked up at him.
"Nick, you have done more than what is required of a best friend. You have become part of my family. You are like my brother. I couldn't ask for anything more than you have already given me."
Nick smiled and kissed my forehead.
"Well then I hope you don't hate me for what I'm about to say." Nick replied gripping my shoulders and looking me in the eyes.
"What?" I asked.
"Go talk to Joe. He deserves to know how you feel."
I sat on Nick's bed. My legs felt numb.
"Nick, I can't." I replied looking at the floor.
"Cay, you have to."
I sighed. I knew Nick was right. I stood up and hugged Nick.
"I love you Nick. You are the greatest person I know."
"I love you too Cay. And I'll love you no matter what."
I nodded again and left Nick's room. Walking down the hall I saw Joe's door shut. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes as I knocked.
**Joe's POV**
"Leave me alone," I said to whoever was knocking on my door.
"I can't," They said.
"Casey?" I asked sitting up on my bed.
"Yeah," She said.
I stood up and glanced in the mirror. I looked like a complete mess, but part of me didn't care. I knew the Joe that Casey wanted never cared too much about how he looked. He would rather know you liked him for who he was than what he looked like.
"Hey," I said opening the door.
"You look awful," She said taking in my appearance.
"Thanks," I said rubbing a hand on the back of my neck.
"I don't look much better." She said walking into my room.
"You look perfect to me,"
When I said that I silently cursed myself. I had to stop letting my feelings get in the way.
"Was everything you said true?" Casey asked sitting on my desk chair.
"Every word," I confessed walking over to her.
"I don't know what to say,"
"Say what you feel. Casey my heart is breaking either way. You can't do much more."
"I didn't mean to," She said tears falling again.
"Well you did." I said kneeling before her.
I refused to lie to Casey anymore. Even it it hurt to say; hurt to hear; she had a right to know.
"I'm sorry," She said looking up at me.
I hesitated for a moment before slowly taking her hand in mine. She didn't pull away from me. Instead she threw her arms around me and started crying.
I froze for a moment, unable to control the emotions running through my body.
I wrapped my arms around her and felt myself lose control.
"Casey, please. Just tell me how you feel." I was able to say. I had to admit it took all the courage I had to get those words out. I was so afraid of her answer.
"I love you Joe," She said just above a whisper. "But, it's too hard."
"Casey no," I said pulling away from her. "We can make it work please. I need you. I can't live without you."
"Joe, I can't. It's too soon." She said standing up. "I'm so sorry,"
"Casey please don't walk out on me." I was on my knees.
I felt so completely helpless. I felt like a fool. I was begging a girl to stay with me.
"Please Joe," She began. "You have to understand."
"I don't understand Casey! You just two minutes ago tell me you love me! Now you want to walk out on me! I don't understand!" I yelled at her.
Tears started falling from my eyes too as she approached me.
She softly placed her lips on mine and looked up at me.
"Goodbye Joe," She said walking out the door.
I stood there staring at the empty hallway for God knows how long.
Nick and Kevin appeared in my field of vision, but I didn't move.
"We're sorry," They both said together.
They walked towards me and I lost control. I fell helplessly into Kevin who at the moment was hugging me. I haven't done this since the time we found out about Nick having diabetes, but I couldn't help it.
"What happened?" Nick asked placing his hand on my shoulder.
Still buried in Kevin's chest I mumbled the words.
"She's gone,"
