'...say goodnight, and goodbye!'
The boys ended the show with a bang before they found themselves grinning from ear to ear. They loved playing for their fans, but they loved the expressions of satisfaction and just plain happiness on each of their devoted faces--looks of pure shock and bewilderment at times--but happiness all in all. It was a natural high to them.
Joe bowed with his brother's one last time before he began to walk towards the left exit of the stage. He was wet from sweat and his hair was bound to be sticking up in all places, but once he saw Brooke's smiling face beaming at him from backstage none of that seemed to matter. His grin only grew wider upon feeling the slender girl jump into his arms excitedly, 'Joe that was amazing!' she yelled before he hoisted her off the ground in a large bear hug, '...like seriously you guys were awesome! I never knew you could do the splits! Geez, I can't even do the splits!' She exclaimed quickly before Joe felt her struggle out of his arms.
His eyes snapped back slowly only to watch as the tall, beautiful girl before him jumped into the arms of her brothers, giving them each a long, big bear hug, 'Geez,' she began to say before she jumped off of them, 'I forgot how amazing you guys are live!'
Joe was still grinning as Brooke rambled on and on to herself mostly about how amazing they were, before her dark green eyes sparkled with embarrassment, 'Sorry...er--I'll shut up now, I'm just embarrassing myself now,' she admitted sheepishly.
Nick chuckled to himself before wrapping a brotherly arm around her slim shoulders, 'Enough about us,' a light crimson blush peeked out on his already rosy cheeks before shaking his curly hair, 'what about you?' He asked with wide eyes.
Kevin nodded his head, seemingly agreeing with his youngest brother, 'You underestimate yourself little one,'
Brooke blushed, 'I do not,' she muttered, shuffling her feet around nervously, '...and don't call me little one--big one,'
Kevin rolled his eyes, 'Whatever, you're still awesome! You did great,'
'You really did,' Nick agreed with a solemn nod.
Brooke could feel her cheeks getting hotter and redder with each and every compliment before her green eyes looked up into Joe's warm, focused brown ones, 'so what about you? Did you have fun tonight?'
A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips before he shrugged, crossing his arms over his chest smoothly, 'Eh, it was mediocre...' he joked playfully, sensing her uneasiness quite easily.
Brooke's smile grew before nodding her head, 'I agree...especially that opening act--can you say horrible?'
Joe's eyes locked into her own for a long moment before shaking his head, 'Not when it comes to you--never,' He whispered sincerely.
Brooke's eyes widened slightly before averting her eyes down to her shoes, 'Oh...'
Kevin and Nick both looked around awkwardly just as Nick cleared his throat, 'I'm...uh--thirsty, come on Kevin,' He muttered before dragging his eldest brother away with him quickly.
Joe continued to look down at Brooke before letting out a small sigh. All he wanted to do was get her to completely come out of the shell she had buried herself in long ago. Let her truly see what everyone else did--what he saw. '...did you get my note?'
Her eyes flickered up into his own before she opened her mouth to reply, 'I--...'
'Brooke, Joseph!' Paul Jonas called out, walking over to them with a great smile. 'You guys gotta get over to the fans who won the backstage passes--their all waiting for you...'
Brooke's eyes flashed towards Joe's before a small smile forced itself upon her thin pink lips, 'Shall we?' she asked quietly.
Joe cleared his throat quietly before nodding his head, 'we shall,'
This was the last night they were to be staying in the hotel room and needless to say all of them were taking that opportunity to get a good night sleep. All except for Brooke. She hadn't yet seen Joe since the concert and she'd spent at least a good hour searching for Joe by herself, not wanting to bother Kev or Nick.
Her green eyes were staring mindlessly off into oblivion as she sat on her bed, crossed legged before that all too familiar Star Wars ringtone rang out loudly.
'Hello?' She asked quietly, praying the walls weren't as thin as they looked.
'Hey,' His voice was soft and slightly muffled by the whistling hum of the wind through the receiver.
'Joe?' She asked incredulously, 'Where have you been, I was looking for you forever!'
Joe's eyes darted around him before clearing his throat, 'Come outside--the tour bus is at the side of the hotel--it's snowing...' He added on, and from what she could tell he had a small smile riddling his lips.
Her eyes peered at the bedside clock beside her, 'Joe it's midnight--'
'please come down? It'd be nice to have some company...'
Brooke sighed to herself before nodding her head to no one in particular, 'I'll be down in a minute.' she said before hanging up her phone.
She sighed heavily as she peered out her window, watching as the hazy little drops of snow fell onto the welcoming, cold, ground beneath her. The wind blew every which way before she felt herself mentally shiver before slipping on her brown jacket quickly. She wasn't sure what she had gotten herself into.
Her green eyes darted the premises around her rather quickly before an eerie chill shot down her spine. Here she was, alone, and by herself in the middle of the night searching for a boy who she was beginning to think, played a joke on her.
'I hate Joe, I hate Joe, I hate Joe...' she muttered, her teeth chattering as yet another gust of wind shot through her, 'I hate wind, I hate wind, I hate wind...'
Amongst the large gusts of wind, she could vaguely hear the gentle call of her
She heard a gentle chuckle over the phone before that gloriously velvet voice rang out on the phone, 'Where are you?'
Brooke huffed as the wind blew her hair in front of her, 'Outside--looking for a lunatic,'
'Oh yeah...I heard about that guy who escaped from that mental place on the news--very dangerous' he mocked, she could practically hear the smirk playing his lips.
'ha ha,' she shivered, 'you're hilarious'
Joe was silent for a few minutes, 'just come to the tour bus...' and with that he hung up.
Brooke glowered angrily before shutting the phone off, trudging through the thin layer of snow on the ground for what seemed like a few minutes before coming in contact with the Jonas' tour bus.
She didn't notice any lights on in the bus, but when her mind flashed back to hours before--when Joe had taken her upon the roof, a gut instinct of hers told her that's where she would find him.
She mimicked the last steps she had taken just hours previously, only to notice a certain black haired, chocolate-eyed beautiful boy, sitting crossed legged directly in front of her, 'hey stranger,' he breathed, his smile never faulting.
Brooke rolled her eyes, 'directions would have been peachy,' she said as she took one last step onto the roof.
Joe bobbed his head up and down, '...but not nearly as fun,' he admitted before slowly laying his back down against the cold roof of the bus.
'What are you doing?' she asked quietly, sitting before him somewhat awkwardly as the wind blew her hair back.
Joe tilted his head upwards to peer at Brooke only for a soft smile to light up his face. Her mahogany hair blew behind her gently, pushing her bangs away from her eyes. She shivered as the wind hit her frame. 'You're cold,' Joe stated before he moved over slightly, 'come here...'
Brooke furrowed her eyebrows, 'Why?'
A heavy sigh escaped those lips of his, 'Can't there be just one time where I ask you to do something, and you do it without me having to convince you to?'
Brooke looked down awkwardly before shuffling over towards him, laying down a good metre away from him. Joe's smile was amused as he shook his head, 'I don't bite hard, you know? Come here' he said, gesturing to the space directly beside him.
A faint, pink flush spread down Brooke's cheekbones before she shuffled closer to him. In instinct, Joe immediately wrapped his strong slender arm under her neck, bringing her head into the crook of his neck, 'better?' he purred looking up at the stars.
Brooke couldn't help but smile at this. She took in his scent subtly and couldn't help but let her mind wander. It seemed to be a mixture of his natural scent and his cologne--whatever it was, she couldn't get enough of it.
'Do you want to play a game?' Joe asked, gently beginning to stroke her soft hair soothingly.
Brooke chuckled, 'that would have sounded like a good idea if it wasn't the infamous words of that thing from saw...'
Joe grinned, 'and that would have sounded like an answer if you didn't change the subject,'
She rolled her eyes, 'Okay, fine. What game?'
'...it'll be like 20 questions, but you have to answer it yourself, as well..,'
Brooke creased her brow, 'So it'd be like truth or dare--but...without the dare?'
She watched his chest rise and fall with every small chuckle he let out before he rested his cheek against her head, 'Yeah.., truth or truth, shall we say.'
'Okay, you go first,' Brooke said beginning to stare up at the sky. She let her breath hit his neck; she couldn't help but notice him shiver slightly.
Joe nodded his head simply, 'okay...what's your favourite movie?'
'Across the universe or...west side story--' she blushed at this.
'Musicals,' Joe repeated quietly before a small smile played on his lips. 'That's original' He said through a large smile.
Brooke smiled slightly 'and yours?'
'James bond. Although I do put him to shame, I still have to give the guy some bonus points for trying,'
Brooke smiled at this, 'Fair enough,' she paused to think, 'hmm....your favourite...ice cream?'
Joe laughed yet again, 'original question...I'd have to say chocolate marshmallow...' he looked down at her, 'yours?'
'mint chocolate chip,' she answered slyly before smiling, 'It's so good,'
Joe's lips tugged just the slightest as he tucked a piece of hair behind her hear, 'umm....subject?'
Brooke crinkled her nose, 'Anything but math...' she noticed Joe smirk at this, 'yours?'
'Math,' he added truthfully. 'I just get all that number stuff...'
Brooke merely nodded, 'What's one thing you've always wanted to do?'
Joe grinned, 'honestly?'
'Honestly,' she confirmed.
Joe's eyes wandered around before shrugging, 'Comedy,'
She smiled, 'You'd be good in that field...you're quite comical, if I do say so myself...'
'Oh really?'
Brooke only nodded before feeling something touch the top of her head, his lips? She couldn't be sure. 'and you?'
'It's not nearly as important as yours...but I've honestly always wanted to swim with sharks...but I don't think I ever could...'
'Why's that? You scared?'
Brooke nodded her head, 'to death--knowing that those big suckers are all around you and can eat you up in one bite--that's terrifying,' she paused, 'but at the same time...exhilarating enough to go through with it,'
Joe smiled slightly, 'I think you're the only girl I've ever talked to whose said swimming with sharks...' This of course, sparked a whole new wave of conversation that spanned a good three hours into the middle of the night.
There they were, two teenagers, wrapped up in each others defenceless arms with nothing but each other protecting them from the snow falling all around them, acting as a blanket over the awaiting objects below. Brooke couldn't help grin as she listened to Joe's answers. He had a back story to every single answer he had, and was willing enough to share each and every one. As opposed to Joe, who, as he named off his stories, watched her intently. Watched as her green eyes wandered up towards the sky when she thought, or how she crinkled her nose when he said something she was curious about--everything about her seemed to captivate him.
Finally, seemingly hours later, Brooke stretched herself out from under his arms, 'I think we should maybe go inside--sunrise is in like three hours...I need sleep,'
Joe nodded his head as the two of them slowly sat up, 'I'll walk you to your hotel room, tomorrow we're back on the bus, so I guess you should bid farewell to your beloved bed,'
Brooke smiled as they began to walk back to the hotel rooms in peace. Joe looked down at Brooke and couldn't help but let his lips tingle as the urge to kiss her got stronger and stronger. He watched from the corner of his eye as she pushed her bangs away from her eyes, 'well I guess I'll see you tomorrow...'
Joe quickly snapped out of his trance before nodding his head slowly, 'tomorrow,'
Brooke looked up at Joe only to lean into him slightly. Her soft lips brushed against the stubble on his jaw, letting them linger there for moments before finally, reluctantly pulling away, 'Goodnight Joe,' she smiled before walking back into her room, closing the door slowly.
Joe stood there; shocked out of his mind. His calloused finger slowly moved up towards the spot on his cheek in which her lips had just been,
It wasn't until the vibration of his phone went off in his pocket that Joe finally snapped his head up. He moved his feet slowly towards his hotel room before bringing out his cell phone, flipping it open.
One new message
Captain Cool.
A.K.A. Brooke.
Joe quietly opened up the door and walked to the washroom to get changed into his boxers and white wife beater before climbing into bed. He quickly pressed view message before his eyes met the bright screen of his phone.
It was then, in the middle of the night. In an expensive hotel room occupied by his slumbering brothers that Joseph Adam Jonas knew what he had to do.
P.S
You were pretty amazing, yourself by the way.
-<3 Brooke
It was that moment, that Joe knew; Brookelyn Anne Delaney was going to be his...even if she didn't know about it yet.
