I did alot of sleeping at the hospital, but believe me, it wasn't easy. Having Braedyn in the room was distracting. My dreams were, thankfully, Braedynless. Don't get me wrong, I really like him, but if I start seeing him everywhere I'm sure I'll go crazy.
I had finally made it into a relaxed, dreamless sleep when I was shaken awake.
"The doctor says you can be released today," I heard Braedyn say.
Too tired to form a sentence I mumbled, "Mmmthasgood." He had to take a second to realize what I had said, and chuckled. His laugh made my heart beat faster. Those stupid butterflies I never get were back.
"That means wake up," He said, and left it at that. So I got up, pushing the thin blanket off the side of the uncomfortable little bed and swung my legs off one side.
"Better?" I asked sleepily. He smiled and nodded in return and helped me stand up. He helped me get used to walking again, seeing as I had been laying in bed for a few days now. The doctor walked in a minute later.
"How are you feeling?" he asked in that stiff doctor manner.
"Uh.. fine? Can I go back to school now?" The world is ending, I just said I wanted to go back to school. My mom obviously heard me as she walked in, for her eyes were wide open.
"That's up to your mother. I-"
"Stanton! Done any drugs while you were- whoooahh your eye is a funny color," my bother hollered as he ran in. I groaned.
"What are you doing here?"
"Well you didn't expect us to just sit at home while you were in the hospital did you? Plus I wanted to see this for myself. The big and tough Stanton Gage is sitting on a hospital bed, vulnerable!" he laughed. Stupid little kid.
"And your nose is looking pretty vulnerable right now, want me to break it?" I growled. He backed off, as usual. "So where's the other one?" I asked, referring to my father. I wasn't going to call him that though.
"I believe he's signing you out in the lobby," mom replied.
"So do I get to go back to school?" I asked again. She smiled and nodded. Satisfied, I stood back up and walked over to Braedyn."We have some catching up to do in school."
"That's right," he replied, smiling along with me. Missing a day at Polaris was like missing a week at any other school. This made me groan, for even though I said I wanted to go back to school, I did not feel like making up all that work.
The love you never found, was right here all along. Waiting here for you
-*-*-Back At The School-*-*-
Unfortunately, I still couldn't go to classes. I had to lay in bed because of my ribs, and I had to have all my work delivered to me. I assumed Ryan would have to do that. I'm sure he wouldn't object, though. I hadn't seen him since that first day I was awake. Go me.
The good thing was, I didn't have to use my legs. Instead, I got to push myself around in a wheeled chair, or have someone else do it for me. I've always wanted to have the opportunity to be this lazy.
"Stanton!" Cera yelled. She was waiting in my dorm with Parker and Ryan. The three of them were grinning happily, obviously excited that I was finally back at school. Braedyn wheeled me into the room all the way and stepped away awkwardly. I looked back at him and gave him a smile.
"Thanks," I said genuinely. I wanted so much to kiss him right there, but I held back the urge and let him walk out. But not before he smiled back.
"Aw, Stanton. You have such a cute smile. You should do that more often," Cera complimented. She appeared behind me and wheeled me over to the bed, as if it were too hard for me to move myself five feet. Unfortunately, I could not get myself out of the chair.
"Uh..," I stared at the bed and sighed. "This is lame."
"Oh! I'll help you!" Ryan volunteered eagerly, hopping up from his bed and hurrying to my side. Nothing was said as I wrapped an arm around his neck and let him pick me up and move me onto the bed.
"Lazy on a new level. I don't even have to get out of my wheelchair by myself," I grinned. Cera and Parker laughed, Ryan did nothing but smile at me. It was actually alittle creepy. I smiled half-heartedly back at him, but he didn't notice. I think he was just happy I smiled at him at all. He made sure I was comfortable on the bed before taking a seat beside me on the bed.
"So do I get to be the first to sign it?" he asked, motioning towards the cast around my arm.
I shrugged. "You can all sign it at the same time." Cera cheered and pulled out a rainbow of sharpies from her little backpack. I gave her a strange look but she just smiled and ran at me with the sharpies. Parker approached beind her with one of the sharpies, a plain black one. I didn't figure Cera would want that one too much, seeing as she was a rainbow kind of person. I knew she would use all of the colors.
And she did.
In fact, not only did she use all the colors when she was writing - she wrote 'I love casts, they're sooo fun! Not that I'm glad you broke your arm or anything. I love Stanton the mostest! ♥ -Cerabooo' - but she also drew a picture (or a few) around it. A big rainbow arched over the words she had written, with rainbow clouds and everything. Then there was a deformed unicorn, no comment on that one.
Parker and Ryan were more simple. Parker wrote: 'Don't listen to Cera, she's silly. I love Stanton the mostest, duh! XD -Parkerboooo' Cera had added the boo on the end, of course. And Ryan wrote: 'You all lose. I love Stanton more than mostest. The end♥ -Ryan!'. What weirdoes.
When words mean nothing, I'll be here singing on and on and on and on.
Life sucks when all you do is sit in bed and sleep all day long. The highlight of my days were talking to my friends during lunch. They always brought me food and told me about how badly it sucked I wasn't in class because -insert random reason here-. Braedyn visited only once this whole week. During his prep hour. We didn't do anything but talk though, which was very disappointing. I was constantly considering getting myself into the wheel chair and going to his class, but I knew he would yell at me. Not that it's ever stopped me before.
"Are you okay Stanton? You seem down today," Cera noticed one morning before classes. I now had gotten into the habit of hardly sleeping. Some called that insomnia. I called it annoying.
"No more than usual," I muttered with a lazy yawn. Another week, this time without a single visit.
"Anything I can help with?" she asked. I began shaking my head, but stopped.
"Actually there is." She tilted her head curiously.
I shifted into a more comfortable position. "You can take me to my classes today." Cera fought with me for a while, but who ever wins against me?
History was boring, but alot better than sitting in a bed doing nothing. People seemed surprised to see me roll into the class in a wheel chair, but I expected as much. I wasn't feeling as weak as before, so I was able to lift myself into the desks. How embarassing would it be if I had to have Cera help me into my own chair?
In fact, I got out of the chair at the door and walked to my seat. Cera protested of course, but who cares? If I can do it than I will. End of story. The teacher decided that since I haven't been in class, she was going to call on me for every question. It's a good thing I had nothing better to do than study and do homework. She seemed pretty pissed at me by the end of the hour.
Score one for Stanton.
Gym? Nothing happened. I watched. Interesting, yes?
After that was Biology. We were studying genetics. Nothing too fascinating, though it was much easier than previous chapters.
Finally it was lunch, and I was walking down the hall, Cera nagging beside me, trying to persuade me into sitting in the wheelchair she was pushing in front of her. Instead of listening though, I had turned to Parker. He and I had began talking more and more, seeing as I needed all the company I could get while I was in bed for those two weeks. I knew what he was thinking when I saw his face - a grin plastered on it - his eyes darting from my own to the wheelchair Cera was still pushing. She still hadn't finished her nagging. I shrugged my shoulders and motioned him towards it. He skipped over to Cera and sat down on it.
"Push me!" he said loudly, glancing up at his girlfriend with a cute smile.
"No! This is Stanton's wheel chair! That he should be sitting in right now! Get off!" she yelled back. Parker frowned, but I stopped him from getting up.
"Cera, don't be so mean. I told him he could, since I'm not using it." She glared, but didn't force Parker off. She simply wheeled him down the hallway. He looked like a little kid, his legs pulled up to his chest and a grin on his face. They earned strange looks walking down the hall.
Ryan approached us when we got into the cafeteria. I almost groaned when I saw him. I didn't feel like talking to him.
"Stanton, why aren't you in your wheel chair?" he asked, worriedly.
I glared at him and walked over to the lunch line. "I don't need that from you too, I'm fine." He nodded, not saying another word after that.
I felt proud of myself. I made Ryan shut up for once.
"That's all your having?" Cera asked after I left the line with only a single apple. Everyone else had a tray with some sort of dish on it, actual lunch. I shrugged and nodded, taking a seat at our table. I then remembered something that made me grin. No more lunch duty.
I walked into Braedyn's classroom behind Cera. She had finally given in and taken the wheel chair back to my room.
Score two for Stanton.
Braedyn glanced at the door when I walked in, having to do a double-take when he saw me.
"What on earth are you doing Stanton? Go back to your room."
I laughed and took my seat in the back next to Cera. "No thanks." He glared and approached my desk as students continued to file in.
"You shouldn't be up yet."
"I say I should," I retorted, not looking him in the eyes.
"Well then, I think I should tell you that you will be attending one more hour of detention each day from now on to make up for the lunch duties you will not be doing, Dean's orders," he added that last part before I could protest. I groaned and sat back, only until I rememered slouching kind of hurt the ribs. So I sat up and leaned on my hand, the un-casted one of course. So the bell rang and everyone took their seats, Braedyn clearing his throat. It's funny how everyone shut up as soon as he did.
"Today we are starting on the Shakespearean play, Macbeth. Lucky you, Stanton," he added with a chuckle. I only glared. "We'll be reading aloud in class, and I will assign each of you parts to speak for. This may change daily, since there aren't enough parts for the entire class." The class groaned, including myself. I just knew he was going to pick me to read, too. "We'll just start this right now, then." He passed out the books and we jumped right into it. He assigned me to speak for the first witch. Dick.
Negative points for Stanton.
"When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning or in- this is stupid! Why'd you give me the first witch? I'm not even a girl!" I protested after not even the second line.
He rolled his eyes. "Because I said so, now continue."
"No thanks." He gave a good glare and I eventually gave in. I hate him.
"Or in Rain.." I finished lamely. My parts were all lame. The first scene was short though, thankfully. And I didn't have much to say.
"Okay, care to explain what we just read anyone?" of course no one wanted to, so he picked me. Hate him.
So of course, I answered. I loved surprising people with the intelligence they assumed I didn't have. "They're planning to meet the guy.. Macbeth." I said. Not that the answer was very hard, but I felt accomplished. That is, until Braedyn stole my thunder.
"That's right," he said casually, and continued teaching as usual.
Back to zero points, Stanton.
Worlds away, I'll still be singing on an on and on and on.
