Midnight Sun [Edward Cullen] Ch. 5: First Talk

LAYOUT CREDIT TO VICTIMIZED. Honestly I have been writing this chapter for a couple days. I just actually took the time to sit down and finish it so I am really proud of myself. I wrote a lot of it at school. I have a study hall and I get really bored so I either read stories or write them. Well Bella and Edward start talking in this chapter. And I am really excited about this chapter so I hope you all like it. I get pretty deep and deal with some big emotional issues. Well if you don't know the drill, pl

As I opened my eyes form my little nap I realized the time. It was 1am. I still had my tv on and it was blaring some random acne commercial. I rolled my eyes at how serious the spokeswoman was about her pathetic product. I grabbed my clicker, that was still perfectly placed on my bedside table and turned my tv off. The whole room was instantly consumed in darkness. My stomach growled at me. I hadn't had dinner, and I needed to eat something soon to stop my stomach from yelling at me. I rolled out of my comfortable posistion and walked over to my door. Im surprised I made it there since I couldn't see a damn thing. I searched fro the door knob and finally found it. I opened my door to see the hall light was still on. I walked out into the hall. The whole house was very quiet. James had left for work already, since he is a night policeman, so I knew he wasn't home. I wondered if my mom had come home yet. I hadn't seen her since the day I arrived. And since I slept through dinner, I didn't know if she kept her promise to eat with James & I.
So, I walked into the kitchen to see the dishwasher was running and everything was neat and tidy. I opened the fridge to see James had left me dinner leftovers all ready for me incase I woke up. I smiled at the gesture and grabbed my plate wrapped in tin foil and set it on the counter.
I then took of the tinfoil to see mashed potatoes, turkey, and some peas all neatly portioned around the plate. I could tell James put it together since he is so OCD about almost everything in his life. Its quite hilarious really. I had never seen someone so eager about cleaning on a weekend in my whole life. He did the whole gloves and buckets and everything. I laughed the whole time.
So, I put the food in the microwave to warm it up. I walked aimlessly to the front of the house to see if my mom's car was in the driveway. It wasn't. So, mom lied. Interesting.
I walked back to the microwave to see my food was done. I pulled the plate out, got some silverware and a napkin, and then walked to the living room and turned on the light. I sat on a big comfy leather couch that was neatly placed along the wall of the room towards the 64 inch plasma screen that was in the corner.
I sat in the middle of the couch and put my food and supplies on the coffee table. I then sat up quickly and ran into the kitchen and grabbed a can of root beer and came and sat back down. I grabbed the universal remote and turned the tv on. I then proceed to watch the nightly news. The newswoman was rambling on about the local sports teams and then they cut to commercials. I ate while I watched aimlessly. I was so exhausted from all the homework I had to do that night so I wasn't surprised that I had fallen asleep. But I did not want to mess up my sleep schedule so I knew once I was done eating I would try and go back to sleep.
I sat for about 30 minutes more and finished my food. It was wet from the microwave but it still was really good so I felt very satisfied with the food provided for me. As I sat there on the couch I wondered about Edward. I thought about his light brown hair and his dark eyes. In the morning they were quite golden but as I saw him in biology they almost looked black. I partially thought it was a reaction to whatever was causing him pain throughout class that day.
I was hoping he would be in class tomorrow that way I could ask him what was wrong. It was bothering me. I had no idea why he was acting so wierd. Maybe he is just wierd. But he doesn't even look wierd. So, It made no sense to me.
Oh whatever. I was too tired to make sense of anything that was babling out my mouth. I glanced over at the clock on the cable and saw it was close to 2am. I yawned. Somehow, I was still really tired. My brain was so over used that day so I wasn't surprised by this.
I sat there for about another 10 minutes watching some late night tv show and then turned off the tv and took my dirty dishes back to the kitchen and cleaned them off.
I then walked back to my room and got back in my covers.
I anxiously layed there thinking. I was wondering why my mom wasn't home and why she lied to James. What could she be doing? I mean, she never lies about when she is coming home. It's not like her at all. It worried me. Maybe her and James are not as happy as I thought they are. Maybe James and mom are not getting along and they just don't want me to know about it or worry that they are having problems. Well they had no success. I am worried. I want them to work out. When I first met James I could tell my mom was head over heels for hima and he was crazy about her. And when she called and told me they were engaged, I wasn't surprised. I always thought they made a great couple. But now, they seem almost distant and not as happy.
I just wanted my mom to be happy but I could tell James looked worried too.
Maybe he sees the same differences that I do?
I don't really know. But I just want them to clue me in on the situation.
I sat and stared at my ceiling. The purple walls looked black in the night. My whole room looked lifeless and unloving. I grabbed my pillow and adjusted my situation so I was on my side facing the wall. My soft covers drapped me perfectly as my celing fan made the room nice and cool to my liking. I layed there reliving my day over and over until I finally closed my eyes and was embeded back into my vibrant and vivid dreams.
~~~~~ THE NEXT DAY ~~~~~
I opened my eyes to the colorful sun. My room was bright and cheery. Damn sun.
I was still really tired and was in no mood to be awake and moving.
I wanted to cuddle back up into my blankets and dream again.
But the day had different plans. Damn day.
I rolled out of bed and walked over to my dresser. I opened the top drawer and pulled out my socks, bra, and underwear for the day. I then walked over to my closet and got out some simple jeans, a white flattering shirt and a long tan sweater and then walked to the bathroom. I brushed my hair until the tangles that formed that night were gone and then took of my clothes and turned on my shower. I waited a little bit for the water to get warm and then I got in. I stood for a moment for the water to wake me up with its warmness. It was nice and inviting.
I then washed my hair, then my body, and shaved. I got out after that and grabbed a light blue towel and dried myself off. I hung the towel back up and got dressed quickly. I glanced at the clock that said 6:30am. I was done quite early. I then put on some makeup and a gold necklace that I got from my dad with a heart locket on it.
I then shut off the light and then ran to my room and grabbed my purse and backpack. I walked into the kitchen to see James sitting down reading the newspaper.
"Hey kiddo. You're ready quite early today. Not surprising since you fell asleep so early." he said. "Yeah well all that math just wore me to the bone." I replied as I got some orange juice and a poptart and sat next to him at the table.
"I'll bet. You were working hard. That's why I let you sleep. You looked stressed."
"I am a little. Being at a new school is different. Plus the people, they are confusing."
That statement mostly obtained to Edward's mixed messages. They were bothering me.
"Well im sure that will all work out, kiddo." James said happily.
"Thanks James. So did mom come home like she said she would?" I asked.
James looked up from his paper. "Well..." he studdered. He put down the paper and looked at me. This troubled me. Something happened and I missed it. Damn sleep.
"Well you see, Montana, your mom and I are having sort of a rough patch. And your mom said she was "swarmed" again with an exhibit and said she couldn't finish in time and we had a fight. But your mom is saying that I don't understand her needs and what not. When really she just works to get away from me. I think she thought that maybe if you came here things would get better, and they did at first, but now the trouble is starting again Montana, and I have no idea what to do anymore. I feel like our marriage is ending one day ata time." James said. He looked down ashamed. This made me wanna cry.
"James, I honestly think that if it is meant to be, it will be. So hold it out. I am sure it's probably just a bump in the road." James looked up. "When your mother and father had this bump in the road they got divorced 3 days later." he said. "That's only cause they were never meant to be together. I think the only reason they were together was because they were meant to have me. But James...I think you are the only one that can handle my mom. You guys are true love."
James looked up at me a smiled. "Thanks kiddo." I smiled.
After our little deep moment, James drove me to school on time. I got there when the warning bell sounded. So I hurried to my locker and got my supplies for the day. I then went to my home room and sat next to Mike. "Hey Mike, how are you?" I asked him. I quickly glanced at Edward who was reading a book in front of me. I looked back quickly hoping no one noticed. Mike looked up and smiled. "I'm great. I got to go bowling yesterday with my little sister and it was a lot of fun. How are you?" I smiled awkwardly and replied, "Well I am a little worried..." Edward suddenly sturred. I think he is listening (but I am not sure). "What's got you worried?" Mike asked. "Well my mom and my stepdad are fighting and James, my stepdad, and I had this deep conversation this morning and he was telling me how sad he was. And I just feel like my family is being ripped apart and there is nothing I can do to stop it. It's pissing me off." I said casually.
"Wow, that's deep. And it's not even noon yet." I laughed, he did the same.
"Well that's what happens on a Friday. The day just mess with your brain. It's like 'Well I am gonna make you go to school another day when you would rather be home watching cartoons and sleeping in til noon.' and we are all like 'shut up you stupid Friday!' and then we get all angry and then laugh about it when the day bell rings." I said. Mike laughed.
I looked over at Edward. He was still reading but he didn't look like he really was paying attention. He hadn't even turned the page since I walked in. Mr. Taylor, my home room teacher walked in as the final bell rang. Edward glanced up at him then looked back down at the book.
Mike got out a notebook and started reading some notes from his biology class. We had a quiz in there tomorrow and we both needed to study for it. I got out my book and started reading. I was half way into 'Fahrenheit 451' and I reall wanted to finish. So for the whole home room period I sat and read. When the bell rang Mike and I said our byes and he went off to class. I walked to math and saw Angela. She waved and I waved back and sat next to her again.
Mr. G walked in and gave us a warm up activity. It was super easy and I finished within 2 minutes. Angela wasn't even on the second question when I was done. I laughed at her punching random numbers into her calculator and a misunderstood and confused look on her face.
When most of the class was done after about another 5 minutes Mr. G stopped us and we check over the answers. Of course I got every question right. I love math. It's the best subject EVER!
The rest of my classes went by pretty slow. But when I had Biology, I was actually nervous to go to class. I was anxious to see Edward. I had no idea why. It was odd and new to me.
When I walked in, he turned and stared at me. I knew imediantly that I was blushing. I walked over to our table and sat down. I put my books and stuff under my desk. I twiddled my thumbs until my teacher walked in. Mr Henning sat at his desk and took attendence and then passed out a lab sheet for us to work on with our partners. I immediantly had a really sick feeling in my stomach.
I looked over at Edward and he smiled at me. His eyes were back to gold. He must have gotten over his sickness. "So, are you familiar with the vocab words on here Montana?" he asked me casually. "You know my name?" I asked. "Well of course, the whole school is buzzing abour your arrival." He said as he wrote his name on his paper. I looked up at him and smiled. "Really, I got everyone acting like bees? That makes me feel so ubber dandy." I replied. He laughed. But he didn't laugh just any laugh. It was musical. The most beautiful sound I had ever heard.
He looked at me questionally. "Are you alright? You look flush?" he asked. "No, just hungry." I said. "Well lunch is soon." he replied. "Yeah, arn't you hungry?" I asked. He smiled and then looked over at me, "I already ate." he replied. "Well, I am starving and totally confused by this paper." I said. "Well yeah, this paper is quite difficult." I looked over at his paper. It was already done. "Well I thought this was a group assignment Mr. Cullen?" I asked. "You know my name?" he asked mocking me and changing the subject. "Well people told me about you." I replied.
"What did they say? Im curiuos." He asked as he leaned back in his chair. "Well that you were a Marilyn Manson fan and was a satinist and you were abused as a child. And then another girl told me that you were a gay stripper. And another guy said you were some sort of spy." I said as I replied all the rumors I had heard at lunch and around the halls.
"Rumors, huh? Well I am a lot more deep than that." He replied as he sat back up. "I bet you are." I replied. He smiled at me. I couldn't help but smile back.
