Midnight Kiss

::: Chapter 1 :::

“You know…it doesn’t have to end like this.” You said as you stood over him, holding a kunai to his throat.

“You can give up now and I might just be merciful to you.” He tried to shake you off but you put your knee on his chest and pushed him back down. You were now straddling his waist with your hand over his mouth to keep him from making noise. You moved your hand to get a grip on the ground as he tried to shake you off again. As soon as your hand left his mouth, he said, “I’ll never admit defeat to a girl…..it’s not my style.”

Surprisingly, even though he knew you could probably kill him with one twitch of your hand, he smirked at you, full of confidence. That just drove you over the edge.

“Die you bastard!!!!” You yelled and slashed your hand across his throat. But instead of blood gushing everywhere, you had cut a tree stump. “Substitution jutsu” you thought to yourself. You looked around for any movement when you heard a twig break behind you. Turning around, you found yourself face-to-face with the Sharingan. Instantly, you felt dizzy but you tried to stay alert. But you could feel the world around you going fuzzy and you fell to your knees, out of the reach of the Sharingan. He bent down to your level and looked straight into your eyes, making sure you didn’t regain your strength.

“You know….it doesn’t have to end like this.” He said, his sweet voice dripping with sarcasm. He took down the Sharingan and you looked into his gentle, onyx eyes, defeated once again. You would have kept on staring into his eyes but you had sworn to yourself that you wouldn’t get caught in his traps again. You had been hurt by him and you were trying to learn your lesson without having to experience the pain a second time. You stood up and began to walk away from him. But he caught your hand and held it, determined not to let go.

“Leave me alone, Uchiha. We’re done training already.” You said, hoping that he would let go. But you knew how he was when his mind was made up.

“Aww, still sore about losing to me again?” He walked ahead of you and stopped, forcing you to stop too. “You know; if you trained a little harder and more often you just might be equal to me.” You knew he was taunting you, that he loved to see you angry but you wouldn’t give in. You closed your eyes and sighed as you counted to three in your mind. You looked up at him again, taking in every detail. His black hair that blew in the wind, his oval face that seemed to be perfect, even the way he bit his lips subconsciously when he was thinking. Those lips that you knew so well, you almost missed the way he- you shook those thoughts from your mind, trying not to cry. You walked around him and stopped when you had gone a considerable distance. You looked back over your shoulder, relieved that he didn’t follow you.

“I’ll find you when I ready to go training again. Right now I have stuff to do.” You wanted your voice to sound cold, unwelcoming but still, you didn’t want to hurt him. You didn’t want to make him cry – not again. Even though you couldn’t change the past, you could shape your future, and with any luck he wouldn’t be in it.

“Suit yourself. But you won’t have to look far. I’ll be around; close by… right behind you…” He transported himself behind you and whispered the last words in your ear, his warm breath caressing your ear. Then he pulled you close, hugging your waist and put his face in the crook of your neck.

“I miss this, you know….I miss ‘us’. Don’t you?” You fought your feelings, trying to stay strong against his charm but you found yourself losing again, but in a different type of battle. You closed your eyes, trying to recall why you had ended it with him, how much he had hurt you. But you could only remember the good times, the way he cared for you and how much you both loved each other and vowed to be there for each other, no matter what. You opened your eyes and tried to move one of his hands from your waist but his arm was stronger than yours and you ended up resting your hand on his. You leaned your head back and sighed, trying to find something logical to say to him but your mind was so jumbled you could only manage to say his name.

“Sasuke…” Without meaning to, his name came out more like a moan, but he didn’t care if it was intentional or not. He tightened his grip on your waist and moved his mouth back up to your ear, trailing his lips lightly over your skin sending shivers up and down your spine.

“Don’t you ever wonder…what it would have been like? If ‘that’ never happened? If we were still together?” His seductive voice echoed through your mind. Of course you had thought about that. You stayed up late many nights, wondering how different your life would have been if only things had happened differently. But you couldn’t admit that to him. You weren’t about to let your guard down so he could have his way. You found new strength with this resolve and twisted yourself out of his arms. You had missed his touch, his caress, but you had already made up your mind and it would take a miracle to change it.

“No, I don’t waste my time dwelling in the past, sorry to disappoint you dearest.” Your voice was cold and dripping with sarcasm but when you looked at him you were surprised to see him enjoying this. You realized that he could see right through you and that scared you. He took a step toward you and you stepped back at the same time. He sighed but kept his gaze directed on you.

“You know, Minako, you were never the best liar.” He smirked and leaned his head to the side. You were beginning to melt inside…why did he have to look so cute when he did that? “I understand why you would want to resist me but I’ve changed. I’m not that person anymore. I can prove it to you if you would just give me a chance.” You were determined to be stubborn and hold out as long as you could but your heart was tearing in two inside of you. You wanted to give in but you still didn’t trust him enough yet. He stared at you intensely, thinking of something to say to change your mind. Subconsciously, he bit his lip and you screamed inside and looked away rolling your eyes as if you were annoyed.

You looked down at the ground, still fighting yourself when you felt a hand on your cheek. He held your chin and turned you face towards his but you kept your eyes on the ground.

“Look at me.” His voice was gentle but you resisted him, “Minako! Look at me.” You gave up and looked into his eyes. Instantly, you felt yourself being drawn in, you felt like you were being drowned in his memories of you two and you couldn’t hold back the tears. He leaned in, still holding your chin so you couldn’t turn away.

“I know you still think about me, about everything that’s happened. I still do, I want to give us another chance. Don’t resist me; I can see right through your act. Stop fighting your feelings and just give in.” He leaned in even closer, almost hypnotizing you. You closed your eyes and turned your head to the right, trying to get away but Sasuke took that chance to close the gap between your lips and his. Your eyes shot open but closed slowly because his lips were so soft and it felt so good to be in his arms again that you decided to enjoy it while it lasted. His tongue moved over your bottom lip, trying to enter your mouth. You hesitated and he moved his other hand (which was still on your waist) up your back inside your top and you gasped, giving him full access. For a minute or two, your tongues fought and you slowly began to lose control of yourself. Your hands moved from your sides up to his chest pausing on is rock-hard abs, then up to his sleek shoulders and finally wrapped themselves around his neck, pulling him closer. His hand left your chin and went to your hair, pulling it out of the tight bun. As your light blue hair tumbled down to your waist, his hands followed and wrapped themselves around your hips.

The kiss was full of passion, desire and regret. After ten minutes, he broke the kiss, leaving you in a trance with your eyes still closed. He wiped away a tear that was halfway down your cheek then he lightly caressed your lips with his thumb and whispered in your ear, “Just think about it. That’s all I’m asking.” Then he kissed your cheek softly. You opened your eyes to answer him, but he was already gone. Going over the situation again in your mind, you tried to reason out what could have brought on his change of heart. What could have made him become so……caring?

Trying to shake thoughts of him out of your mind, you continued into town to find Naruto. Of course, the first place you looked was the Ramen store and he was there, eating with Iruka-sensei. You sat on the next available seat beside Iruka. While you waited for them to finish eating, you went over what Sasuke said in your mind – again. Iruka seemed to notice that you had zoned out and were unresponsive to his and Naruto’s questions.

“Is something wrong Minako? You seem distant.” You looked at him, surprised. You almost forgot where you were. But you couldn’t tell them about what Sasuke said, not until you knew what he really wanted from you.

“Did something happen when you and Sasuke were training?” Naruto asked, worried. You looked away quickly so they wouldn’t see you blushing. You put your fingers to your lips and answered absent-mindedly, “No, nothing to worry about, I guess. I’m just…thinking about something.” Your voice cracked and Naruto guessed that something wasn’t right but he knew that you would tell him if you could, he just had to wait until you were ready to talk.

“If she says it’s nothing it probably isn’t important.” Naruto said before going back to his ramen. Iruka was still a little worried but decided to leave you alone. He had some paperwork to do so he paid the bill and left you and Naruto.

“Get some rest you two. I hear you have a mission coming up. Good luck.” Iruka said over his shoulder before disappearing. Naruto followed you home and to make sure you got in alright.

“Seriously, what happened with you and Sasuke? You don’t usually look like this after training, even if you lose.” Naruto stood in your doorway, blocking you from going in.

“….it’s nothing. We just talked after, that’s all.” You wanted to avoid telling Naruto, even though you trusted him more than yourself. You knew he had an explosive temper and you didn’t want to drive Sasuke away; not before you made your decision. You weren’t sure if Naruto believed you or not, but he let you go in and left without asking again. You knew he would probably go and look for Sasuke and ask him but that was better than Sasuke knowing you told Naruto.
